I’m glad that Sonic has a consistently good music selection though I was starting to think there wasn’t a bad one lol. This vid really helped in showing me that not all that glitters is gold
Interestingly enough, there’s a story behind Chronicles’ horrendous ost. Bioware had a full OST for the game that they had to pull out at the last minute due to some apparent legal issues, and had to throw something together at the last minute, giving us the finalised, unfinished OST we have now. In regards to Chronicles’ finalised OST, it’s pretty horrendous, but being the first Sonic game I ever had, the soundtrack hits me with such a beautiful wave of nostalgia. Honestly I love Chronicles’ to bits, I sunk so many hours into that game it felt like such a big adventure, even if these epic fights had such terrible music playing over it, but hell, I was 5, I didn’t really grasp what constituted as “good” or “bad” music, but looking back I can definitively see how painful it sounds. The intro song still slaps tho.
I didn't know this, thanks for the info! Interesting that there was a second legal issue surrounding Chronicles! Completely get you, I think it's great that you have fond memories and an enjoyment of the game! Agreed, the intro song is great!
The only song from Sonic Underground that I actually like a little is the one called "Wish I could go faster", or "Fastest thing alive" that Manic & Sonia sings.
Agreed, but Lil Boulder's remix of the song is absolutely fantastic. Check that out if you haven't already, it's one of my favourite fan-made rearrangements!
it actually has my favorite composition of any of the forces soundtracks, aside from space port, but that instrumentation is so bad... I feel a cover of the song would go so hard. Its like Mega Man II on the Game Boy, bad soundfont, amazing soundtrack
I am extremely thankful that you didn't bring up Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. Sonic fans often lump that game's soundtrack among the worst in the franchise, but I simply do not agree at all. Sure, the majority of the soundtrack isn't very memorable or 'Sonicy', but the music at least sounds nice and is inoffensive (Every variant of Lyric's Lair and the final boss theme are the best tracks). Comparing Rise of Lyric's soundtrack to the examples you brought up in this video proves my point.

hi, your comments about sonic underground has helped me remember that they have fucking bangers in every episode! not only is it one of ny favorite sonic shows, i think it's got some really good tracks.
Genuinely I am just full of questions for Sonic Jam Game Com, even by its existence alone... Funny enough, there's a rumor where Chronicles original OST got deleted by accident, and the devs have to redo them in a short amount of time? Not sure if that's even actually a thing...
Likewise, I can't understand why the Gamecom is the way it is lmao. Yeah, I've heard conflicting things about Chronicles' OST, need to look into it myself and find out what happened with it.
Personally, I would have brought up any of the faux-Mega Drive styled tracks composed by Jun Sunoe. Jun is well known for his incredible guitar tracks in games like Sonic Adventure. The thing is, every time he works on a game with classic Sonic style gameplay, such as Sonic 4, Sonic Forces, and most recently, Sonic Superstars, he opts to use a bunch of assorted synths meant to resemble Mega Drive sounds instead of using live instruments, and it doesn't turn out very well. Most of the time, the composition is pretty good, but its bogged down by the instrumentation. The instruments are usually harsh and grating. It just sounds off and doesn't capture the essence of classic Sonic music; it attempts to mimic the sound. The synths he uses aren't real Mega Drive synths, either. The one used in the second half of Fang's boss theme in Sonic Superstars is literally just a MIDI instrument from GarageBand. While most of the songs would be pretty good if they used different instruments, there are some that just don't work because the composition itself is bad. For example, the theme from Iron Fortress in Sonic Forces has weird pacing and points where several different instruments play completely different melodies at once with little to no cohesion, and the composition of the three boss themes he made for Sonic Superstars have really boring compositions. Fang's theme in that game is a legitimate contender for the worst song in the entire series! TL;DR: Jun Sunoe is a talented musician, but he needs to stick to live instruments and quit defaulting to the faux-Mega Drive synths whenever he sees classic Sonic.
@@inkdragoon4547 if I'm not mistaken Ohtani came to compose music for Sonic starting from Heroes (with track for Hang Castle). Hataya-san composed Sonic CD's OST, yes. But what happened that Forces' classic like tracks came out like this, idk. Probably not the best instrument they had in the team.
Honestly I do agree, Jun is amazing and I love his work, but his contributions to Sonic 4, the Sonic Origins replacement tracks and Sonic Superstars aren't his best.

Completely fair, as I say I love the theme tune so I know there's good music there, but the songs the band plays weren't for me personally. Glad you get enjoyment out of them though! :)
Chronicles and underground are pretty solid picks. I wonder what you'd pick as worst song in games people considered good, but if you picked worst song per game you'd have so many people after you.
That's something I may do for a future video to be fair, like a ranking of each game's soundtrack. Would be a challenge as the majority of the Sonic series' OST's are so, so good!
Honorable mentions: Sonic Superstars: Press Factory act 1 (I mean the composition is fantastic, but the the instrumental choice sounds like a beginner midislapping genesis soundfont on it, I mean all Superstar Jun's tracks suffers from bad instrumentation)
More honourable mentions: Sonic Origins - Sonic 3&K Super Sonic theme. They remixed most of the beta Sonic 3 music to replace the copyrighted MJ songs, but butchered them so hard. The worst of these is the redone Super Sonic theme to make it sound "less repetitive", but the result is a lackluster version of the theme, & sounds so badly composed as well. The entire Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis soundtrack is terrible as well. It butchers the original Genesis/Mega Drive Sonic 1 music, plus, it has no excuse, as Sonic Advance 1, 2 & 3, & Battle have amazing soundtracks & did it so much better. Even the worst Sonic Battle song & Sonic Spinball on GBA's single song (literally just Toxic Caves) sound better in comparison.
@@CAMiStH just look up "green light ride wall 5 remix" if you're interested Definitely not the worst but oh man the bad part of that song really sticks out like a sore thumb
So here are my takes on these: *Sonic Erazor - Vs. CPU* - It sounds like Sonic being hit on the head by Amy's upgraded hammer from SA1 & seeing stars shortly afterwards over & over again *Sonic Spinball - Options* - I find this one actually amusing & hilarious to hear. YEAH, play that heavy guitar! I have to agree that the middle part is definitely discordant, though. *Sonic Chronicles - Every song in the game except intro* - Call it an unpopular opinion, but I wouldn't say every song is horrible in the game; Blue Ridge may sound unfinished, but it is a pretty nice ambient remix of Diamond Dust Zone (Saturn). I also like the Mystic Ruins music as well. It sounds like a cool chase theme remix of The Final Fight from Sonic 3D Blast: Flickies Island. I have to agree on how bad Central City & Nocturne are, though. They're hilariously bad! They really butchered S3's Big Arms music & Sonic 3D Blast: FIickies Island's Diamond Dust Zone (Genesis/Mega Drive). The poor attempt at trying to make Sonic CD JP's Collision Chaos sound ancient as well sounds unfinished. *Sonic Jam on Game COM - Every song* - Never heard of it, but my GOD they do sound awful. No, the limitations of the console don't give it an excuse! Just listen to Megaman on the NES & some of the chiptunes on some Amiga games... *Sonic Underground - All Songs* - Hmm, not exactly a Sonic game OST now, is it? I do remember the intro, "Fastest Thing Alive" from the episode with the growth serum & HUGE FEET, "Let's Do It To It" from the Castle episode, & that "We Are Sonic Underground" from the Egypt pyramid episode (actually in this video).
Okay, umm... In blue blur community most of the people aren't pleased with Genesis-like tracks that Senoue-san composed for "Sonic 4" trilogy and Superstars... But, imo, Episode 2's OST (with rare exceptions) rocks
Fun video. It’s probably not a contender since I bet a lot of people like it more than not but colors ultimate really doesn’t sound good to me; it’s tracks are such butchered versions of the originals that I can’t help but feel that it’s one of my least favorites. The piano of tropical resort really doesn’t sound fitting or right and planet wisp’s synth instrument is way too loud that it shatters the atmosphere of the level for me. Your picks in this video are spot on and while I don’t exactly hate chronicles’ soundtrack (probably one out of 3 or so people in the world who thinks it’s a bit underrated) I do agree it’s not good and does deserve the criticism it gets.
Thank you for the kind words! I've yet to play Colours Ultimate myself, but I know it's soundtrack is quite controversial and that they completely removed the original versions of the songs if I remember correctly.

nah fuck you, underground's songs were great. I loved them 15 years ago when I was a kid, loved listening an banging to them the same way I loved listening and banging to normal sonic music, even more because they sounded like normal music. they were diverse too. infact I was hoping to sit down and try to play these songs in my guitar one of these days but I was busy lol listen to your heart part of the problem and more, I was in love with them. they were great compositions. "someday" being a genuine masterpiece
Haha completely fair, I'm really glad that you got a lot of enjoyment and fond memories out of something that I personally didn't :) Hope that you do play them on guitar and maybe post covers of them online, would be very cool to see!
I mean, okay. But this seemed like a copout. I was expecting you to talk about the lyric themes at some point, and atleast some of the music from the mainline games.
That's completely fair, sorry to disappoint! You've actually given me the idea to do a video where I rank all the vocal tracks from the mainline games, and maybe spin-offs like Sonic R, so hopefully you'll enjoy that when I get around to doing it! :)
Whenever I think of Sonic Chronicles, I think of the rip SiIvagunner did that fixed the Big Arms remix and actually made it sound good. Please listen to it if you have time: th-cam.com/video/TplshN4vsyc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=NBKRJ8YcWerKs1FZ If I personally had to pick a worst Sonic song, I'd go with any Classic Sonic song from Forces or something from Sonic 4. Then again, there's also the replacement songs in Origins...
I’ve heard this before! It’s so good! Agreed, I think the Forces, Sonic 4 or Origins reduxs of songs aren’t the best; should’ve covered them in this video tbf haha.
It isn't the worst song in the series by any means, but Town Mission 1 from Sonic 06 really gets on my nerves. The song is only just over a minute long, but the first 40 seconds of it is the same repetitive melody and it makes me irrationally annoyed. It might also be due to trauma from me trying to S rank all the town missions and having to hear it over and over lol
Honest opinion. Master System was avoided? Like, Master System Sonic isn't too hot imo. Even better with the Street Fighter 2 Master System Music. (good video)
Thank you so much, that honestly means a lot! I didn't include any MS soundtracks as I personally enjoy most of them, but I'll probably discuss their soundtracks more when I do a full retrospective of all those games. Mainly Sonic Blast, as that saw an MS release if I remember correctly.
To be fair, though, the lionshare of these "bad tracks" are from "actually bad" or "lackluster" games, and the other is from one of the tv specials trying to be a musical. If the consistency of music matched the general popular take of the gameplay across the series, you'd expect way more examples of bad music. Can't argue too much with those brought up, however. There are some wins in these specific sound tracks, but most of them are pretty bad.
Sonic Spinball Options theme..... I sort of agree, its a bit 2 hard on the Tesla Coil electricity sound but it 100% doesn't deserve the hate it gets Sonic Underground..... yah agree 100%..... the show could have been almost as good as Satam, or hell as "good" as Prime... if it bare minimum cut out the musical numbers! the only series I feel that has had a musical number that has been good, in each episode is Vivziepop's Helluva Boss lol
I like that sonic erazer song and the options. The worst songs are the most boring ones. Looking at superstars here. Oh shit never heard sonic jam's music lol.
central city from brotherhood. though eraser comes close. I think brotherhood is worse because it was a game that more people were meant to play and had no reason to have music that was THAT bad. also yeah the spinball options theme is not THAT bad. it fits the tone of the game pretty well.
Definitely, I'm not sure how Brotherhood's soundtrack ended up the way it did. Can't be hardware limitations as Sonic Rush came out three years earlier and arguably has the best OST in the entire series. Spinball's options theme is very overhated, but I can see why some people aren't keen on it.
I've not heard the Sonic 4 OST in ages tbf, though when I do listen to any songs from it, I listen to remixed versions by other artists and not the OG tracks. Think different instruments make them sound a lot better haha

Glad you found enjoyment in something I couldn’t, that’s always good to hear! :)
The Wall5 remix of Green Light Ride is one of the remix of all time
Yo your back mate!
Central City, next question
Chronicles and underground are pretty solid picks.
I wonder what you'd pick as worst song in games people considered good, but if you picked worst song per game you'd have so many people after you.
UNDERGROUND? As in the show?
That's something I may do for a future video to be fair, like a ranking of each game's soundtrack. Would be a challenge as the majority of the Sonic series' OST's are so, so good!
Honorable mentions: Sonic Superstars: Press Factory act 1 (I mean the composition is fantastic, but the the instrumental choice sounds like a beginner midislapping genesis soundfont on it, I mean all Superstar Jun's tracks suffers from bad instrumentation)
A fair choice, it's definitely not Jun's best work in the series
The options theme from Sonic Spinball
I immediately thought of sonic eraser before clicking the video lol
Yeah, certainly has that reputation haha
No one is a island is a banger
Completely fair! I just can't vibe with it personally haha.
Ok 6:25 is definetly a song i would have loved as a kid
I don't think i've ever heard anyone discuss a sonic boom soundtrack
I've only played Shattered Crystal and don't remember the soundtrack of it haha, hence why I didn't go into it here, but I might check it out again.
FINALLY SOMEONE AGREES WITH ME ABOUT THAT SPINBALL SONG
I KNOW, IT’S (mostly) PEAK AAAAAAAAAAAAA
No one mentions the eldritch horror that is "They Call me Sonic"
Because it absolutely slaps
@@CAMiStH correct sir.
Also, you have got to make a video about which version of all hail shadow is better and why it’s the magnafi version.
I’ll have a listen to them all and do a ranking video eventually for sure!
0:18 where is this from
I still can't find the original clip
A Clockwork Orange, one of Stanley Kubrick's best films!
Should've mentioned that one remix of green light ride in team sonic racing
Yeah, I keep hearing about a remix of Green Light Ride that’s apparently not the best. Still need to listen to it in fairness haha
@@CAMiStH just look up "green light ride wall 5 remix" if you're interested
Definitely not the worst but oh man the bad part of that song really sticks out like a sore thumb
So here are my takes on these:
*Sonic Erazor - Vs. CPU* - It sounds like Sonic being hit on the head by Amy's upgraded hammer from SA1 & seeing stars shortly afterwards over & over again
*Sonic Spinball - Options* - I find this one actually amusing & hilarious to hear.
They call him sonic
cuz he faster than sound and he keep on jumpin around
That song slaps tho
Backstabber from Sonic Underground is by far a top banger. Cause that's clearly what most of you people are these days.
That one wasn't one of their best hits
But someday i found my home cosmic dance 411 are bangers
I'll have you know the only people I ever backstabbed were in TF2.
@@CAMiStH Then those players realize to better not miss.
I honestly don’t think the sonic eraser theme is THAT bad
The melody isn't, but the instruments used aren't great. Put different instruments on it and it sounds fantastic!
@@CAMiStHKinda the same thing with the options menu of Sonic Spinball.
Okay, umm... In blue blur community most of the people aren't pleased with Genesis-like tracks that Senoue-san composed for "Sonic 4" trilogy and Superstars... But, imo, Episode 2's OST (with rare exceptions) rocks
So we not gonna talk about the options menu in sonic spinball?
I did haha.
@@CAMiStH😂 lol I might’ve skipped some of the video..
i think you were a bit to harsh on sonic undergroun, but i can respect that
Admittedly, yeah, I was a bit overly critical, but it's soundtrack really did grate on me somewhat. Opening theme slaps tho lol
YES I KNEW I COULDN'T BE THE ONLY ONE WHO LIKED THAT SONIC SPINBALL SONG
IT’S (mostly) SO PEAK AAAAAAAAA
Race to Win. It's Race to Win. Green Light Ride Wall5 Remix at least sounds the way it does because of the genre.
Sonic 4 and sonic chronicles that all i got say they speak for themselves as the trash they are chronicles was so bad i still remember how shi.t it was as a kid
Green Light Ride remix is absolutely abysmal.
I'll admit I've not heard it myself so couldn't comment on it's quality, but I'll check it out and see if it's any good or really, really bad haha
Metal Sonic from triple trouble. It sounds like a crazybus.
I've got a soft spot for Triple Trouble's music, I have to admit, but yeah, I get why you don't care for that song haha
I'm sorry but the songs from Sonic Undeground are bangers.
Yes I hate the show and I used to hate the songs but I grew to love em with time, they're catchy, espetially the mobious stomp
That's completely fair, I'm glad you can get enjoyment out of something I personally didn't haha :)
@@CAMiStH yeah I do get it tho, lots of people hate these songs and it's understandable.
I just like old stupid songs from the early 2000's
I agree with all the rest
But underground got some bangers
Someday
I found my home
411
The cosmic dance
Part of the problem
Mobius stomp
I wish i could go faster
The ones you picked just weren't the good ones
Nah, the worst Sonic song ever made is the Wall5 Remix of Green Light Ride from Team Sonic Racing, and you can’t convince me otherwise.
I've not heard this one before, and I'm almost too terrified to listen to it now lol.
2:50 we was all thinking it
Bosanova OYZ is a low blow, and low-hanging fruit
Agreed, his first soundtrack with Sonic Eraser was maybe a bit too easy, but as I said, I did enjoy his work on the Sonic Jam soundtrack, he can definitely do some phenomenal stuff with the right instruments and hardware!
I actually like the Sonic Erazor song lol
I like Tee Lopes' version, but the original? Really let down by poor choice of instruments/synths. Love Masaru's later stuff though!
Hbomberguy gonna come after you for that joke ahaha
Hi, secret channel owner Tommy Tallarico here; I should point out that I have actually been working hand in hand with Harris Bomberguy for...gosh, I wanna say five years! My mother's very proud!
Dang, just gonna pass over the chronicles intro?
nah fuck you, underground's songs were great. I loved them 15 years ago when I was a kid, loved listening an banging to them the same way I loved listening and banging to normal sonic music, even more because they sounded like normal music. they were diverse too. infact I was hoping to sit down and try to play these songs in my guitar one of these days but I was busy lol
listen to your heart
part of the problem
and more, I was in love with them. they were great compositions.
Please listen to it if you have time: th-cam.com/video/TplshN4vsyc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=NBKRJ8YcWerKs1FZ
If I personally had to pick a worst Sonic song, I'd go with any Classic Sonic song from Forces or something from Sonic 4. Then again, there's also the replacement songs in Origins...
I’ve heard this before! It’s so good! Agreed, I think the Forces, Sonic 4 or Origins reduxs of songs aren’t the best; should’ve covered them in this video tbf haha.
It’s nocturne from Sonic Chronicles
It isn't the worst song in the series by any means, but Town Mission 1 from Sonic 06 really gets on my nerves. The song is only just over a minute long, but the first 40 seconds of it is the same repetitive melody and it makes me irrationally annoyed. It might also be due to trauma from me trying to S rank all the town missions and having to hear it over and over lol
Yeah, repetitive melodies, combined with hearing it over and over again, does cause a song to start grating on you after a while lmao
Honest opinion. Master System was avoided? Like, Master System Sonic isn't too hot imo. Even better with the Street Fighter 2 Master System Music. (good video)
Just hope you get more traction on TH-cam. Your presentation style is really entertaining and I want more
Thank you so much, that honestly means a lot!
Very true, even in a bad soundtrack, there's one or two gems (except Sonic Jam for Gamecom, that's got nothing lmao)
Clearly Fist Bump
I can’t hate Fist Bump, still gets me so hyped listening to it haha
Sonic Spinball Options theme..... I sort of agree, its a bit 2 hard on the Tesla Coil electricity sound but it 100% doesn't deserve the hate it gets
Sonic Underground..... yah agree 100%..... the show could have been almost as good as Satam, or hell as "good" as Prime... if it bare minimum cut out the musical numbers!
the only series I feel that has had a musical number that has been good, in each episode is Vivziepop's Helluva Boss lol
Almost dead from shadow the hedgehog is probably the worst shadow song
Splash hill.
Hot take - I actually kinda like Splash Hill haha. Think the fan remixes online do the composition justice.
I understand you like the song.
BUT THE ORIGINAL HURTS MY EARDRUMS.
The remixs are fire
Nah i give the worst sonic song to station square in brotherhood
Completely valid haha.
I like that sonic erazer song and the options. The worst songs are the most boring ones.
Looking at superstars here.
Oh shit never heard sonic jam's music lol.
Completely fair! I personally can't get into it, but Tee Lopes' rearrangement is fantastic.
central city from brotherhood. though eraser comes close.
@@CAMiStHThe original soundtrack they were gonna use got stolen.
why is no one talking about sonic jam for the game com
Anything from the ds rpg
Even the battle songs? And Blue Ridge Zone?
The SA1 version of "Believe in Myself" is easily the fucking worst, what were they thinking?
Literally made the game unplayable, smh.
sonic 4 has some contenders imo, they may not sound as dogshit as some of these but the complete lack of passion in them hurts me to my core
I've not heard the Sonic 4 OST in ages tbf, though when I do listen to any songs from it, I listen to remixed versions by other artists and not the OG tracks. Think different instruments make them sound a lot better haha
@@CAMiStH the couple times i tried to play the game it just sounds like an absolute nothing noise near constantly and it makes me feel nothing at all
Was mostly expecting you to bring up at least sonic 4 and forces, but ig it's overdone at this point
