Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Soil. Quick review.

Needed some top soil on my lawn for some newly seeded areas and over seeding. I had heard I'd find some junk in it so that's why I ran it thru a filter. If I had to guess, only about 2/3 of the bag was soil.

They add the wood chips because it holds onto moisture longer. it helps when starting seed, and you need to rake it out when the grass is grown enough

BS if I wanted wood chips I would buy mulch... My last bag of Scotts was all wood chips, no soil.

I don’t know where they get there soil bagged at. The reason I googled this is because I have purchased many bags of Scott’s lawn soil over the years for my lawn to fill in holes my dog has dug or low spots in the yard and have found all kinds of trash in it. Not so much the mulch like you have but things like broken glass a few other things. I don’t know if they have been scooping up from a landfill at one point and that’s how it got in there just like the wood chips you have. Even if you read the reviews on it from Lowe’s there has been other people complain about the same issues. I would like to see how Scott’s turf lawn soil is made on modern marvels history channel episode or something. It defines could use improvements on there quality control

Yes....I bought a bag of that to check it out and the amount of wood chips in it was disappointing. Have you found a better option? I've had good luck here in MN with Master Garden Lawn Soil from Menards.

Not yet. I've mostly stuck with this brand and since I already made the filter, it's easy enough for the kids to help.
