I think the Whippet is like an Indy car.....it dominates on the oval track. The Border Collie is like a formula one car...it doesn't have the high end speed of a greyhound or whippet....but it accelerates, decelerates and corners like nobodies business.
Couldn't have put it better myself. I've owned border collies for over 20 years and I'll never be without one, but I'd really love to get a whippet as well. If I ever encounter one on a walk I always stand and watch for a few minutes. The acceleration is just outstanding.
That only makes sense if you are comparing long-run/drive to short-run/drive. The two competitions are completely different. It's comparing apples and oranges as such, unless you are focused on something else. I sometimes walk a pack of two whippets and a saluki, if I replace the saluki with your 'long-distance' runner, I understand what you are saying. However, in comparison the speed and the intelligence... Now, mind you, had a golden retriever, so not claiming points here.

You don't bring a border collie to a dog track to race against a Whippet or Greyhound....and you don't bring either of those to race against a border collie at a fly ball or agility competition. Watch a border collie weave it's way through a slalom course in slow motion and it is pretty obvious it has much better physical characteristics to do that. The two competitions are completely different...I thought I made that point...but thanks for making it again.
Please don't do such things to animals. We humans have brain doesn't mean, we must make animals copy our stunts. Let them live happily and freely. We humans can build gadgets and other AI robots and have such fun. Looking such things, all people around world will try doing such things with their domestic pets. This is Buddha's teachings please try to accept and follow my advice.
Are you kidding they love the interaction with their owner feeling a sense of accomplishment getting a reward you don't know much about dogs if you think they don't enjoy this...if they didn't they wouldn't do it...I have a Whippet she loves to be out doing things.

Just wondering, if it is about agility why are there so many jumps? I stopped doing agility due to the stress on my dogs front end.
the sport is designed to model horse jumping, that´s why. I believe youre looking for "hoopers"
