When I turned 30, someone asked me to describe my 20s. "Caught like a wildfire, out of control, until there was nothing left to burn and nothing left to prove."
Monster Kody. That was a tragic end for a very smart man who struggled to tame his demons. If they left him alone and didn’t constantly harass him, I truly believe the sky was the limit for him. Rest In Paradise, my condolences ma’am
This song hits me so hard. Tears fall almost everytime I hear it. Spent my life like the lyrics in this song...alone and confused, til I started a family at the late age of 42. And it's like he wrote this song for me...word for word. Thank you Bob.
@Melancolia One I hope I'm around long enough to show my kids this song and many others. They're still just little kids, but they have the same heart and soul their dad does. It's just a matter of time. Here's to hoping.
This is my dad’s song he’s in ICU right now and although his mind wasn’t all there last night he sang a few words of this song. He’s older now but still running against the wind ❤ praying for his full healing
May only be 23 but when I listen to this song I see my mistakes, my wins, my losses, everything flashes. I can’t imagine the depth and pain this song will bring me later in in life.
I hear my friend;seemed like yesterday I was being sworn in to the Navy (at 17)going to turn 62 in a couple of months;where in the hell did the time go?
@@jimbaker8243 I often ask myself that. Actually I feel like I’m 30 til our high school class rep sends another email about a classmate dropping dead 😐
This song ALWAYS hits hard. The line about love that "caught like a wildfire out of control, till there was nothing left to burn and nothing left to prove". Reminds me of that one young love that was so fast and intense that it ended too soon. I'm happily married now but that love will always have a special place in my heart.
Rick Hunt...I totally feel you on this. The love of my life. We were good together but he was young in the Navy and didn't really know where he wanted to be or do once he got out. So we went our separate ways. He's married now but to this day,I'll always love him. He was the best...he was my kindred spirit. All the best to you,Ronald White.❤️
You don't have to be young to have a love like that. I found it at 38 and she was 41. But it ended far too soon. She's been dead for 20 years, and I've never found another love like her, and I'm 70.
My dad was a biker and he would play this beautiful song, he was soo sweet. This was a childhood song I could envision it like yesterday, riding in my dad's car with my mom and sisters. Still running against the wind... God rest my dad's soul. Love you Dad!
Hello I really do appreciate you for being a big fan, thank you for your wonderful comments on my post,it really means a lot to me.I sincerely hope you never stop listening to my music🤗🤗
I wonder how many songs released today will have such a profound effect on someone in 2062. The older I get and the more I listen to this song, the more I realise those who live the longest, the lucky ones, lose the most.
When i was 10 years old, my dad used to play this song a lot, it was always on the radio in the car...He would tell me how this song is very meaningful and was special to him. To me, it was just a song with good time and nice sounds, never really listening to the words. Today, as a 40 year old man, this song resonates, strums a chord in my inner being. I sometimes wonder, if what i feel when i hear this song, is what he felt too, 30 years ago.?. Unfortunately, we never developed that closeness that would allow us to discuss these inner feelings...Miss you Dad, wish things were different...would have been nice to know how you really feel.
Avery Thank you and I’m very sorry for your loss too. Your dad was still very young , as are you , and I think the best thing you can do is to go on and live a full life and make him proud . Your not alone , I’m going through it with you , so take care buddy and I wish you well
This is a song that you just appreciate more as you get older. Now retired and appreciating the grands & great-grands, I get this song like I couldn’t in my 20’s
I remember my mom playing this when I was growing up and I was more into the grunge/hard rock genre but at 36 year's old now I have such a deep appreciation for beautiful and timeless music like Bob Seger and so many other's who wrote honest and incredible music!!
One of the classic lines in music...."wish I didnt know now what I didn't know then", Bob's music contains quite a few of these, glad I grew up with his music
I remember being a kid, listening and singing along with this CD with my parents.. I even had the piano book and learned to play it.. I'm 30 now and God knows I miss my parents..
Heard this song for the first time on the radio this morning and it just touched my soul. It has such a calm melody and great lyrics. Such a good song.
''Against the Wind'' gives me goosebumps. Captured my life in a song. Screwed around in college (my first degree) and took a long time to finish, found a sweet girlfriend who could have been my wife but I fooled around. We broke up, I had several failed relationships, drifted from one job to another. After a decade or so I got married but it was a failure of epic proportion. Got estranged from her, took my second degree (and took my education seriously) and graduated. Found another sweet girl but I'm not running around this time, preparing for the future. I'm older now but still running against the wind.
exactly!!! well put my friend our stories are very similar its strange. my first one was the one and i blew it badly have barely gotten over it after 6 years going back to school here soon to finish my degree and hoping my current gf is the one and that i dont make those same mistakes. Good Luck to yu man.
pinoywheelgunner mine was screwing. around but im in construction i cant keep a relationship. Have dead lines and commitments taking care my kids Still trying be a cowboy
for me its about my constant fight the system(the army in my case and how I've had to fight for things you'd think for an all volunteer military you wouldn't have to fight for). Almost every day a soldier, sailor, airman, or marine commits suicide and military leaders basically look the other way because they know unit toxicity is the primary factor, and the media doesn't CONSISTENTLY report it so nothing ever changes, so its a constant fight for those who see the battle for what it is
Once in a while when I was alone and so busy with two jobs I used to go get coffee and donuts on an early Saturday morning around 4:00 am and hit the road headed into the sunrise. Always played his songs. It just seemed to take my mind off of everything for a while. Some songs never get old. They just never get old. They're part of our story in a time gone by so fast.
I'm 65. This sounds like me and my man. We burned it down when we were young. Had 3 kids. Jobs. Hard stuff. We were doing it the hard way. Years went by. Still running. Then we lost our daughter. And we found one another and held on tight for dear life. Then i had cancer. And i beat it. Then he had cancer and he beat it. We married when i was 18 and he was 23. 46 years married May 26th. We're shelter from the wind and in love.
Life is one of best teachers don't feel bad about anything you been thought. Because I'm 55 black man not that it's matter of color what matters that we understand that life is a teacher love you
Yea I totally agree this song is sooooo me now in my early forties. Looking back I have been through hell and back but I wouldn’t change one single day
At 18 years of age I ran hard and fast against the wind working in the trades as a Laborer. When I turned age 33 I had a life changing back injury, and after being able to walk again I still ran against the wind but I used wind breaks as much as I could. Now at age 62 next week I watch the wind speed and when it dies down to a acceptable level I jog briskly and get lots done! Experience matters, cunning and craftyness matters, but knowing WHEN to run and when NOT to run against the wind is what matters the most! Great song.
yeah he didn't think it sounded quite grammatically correct, but it is from my limited knowledge of grammar rules, haha. I tuned out when they taught that grammar stuff in grade school.
I've been a Bob Seger fan for a long time, but -- like so many others -- Running Against the Wind took on a new, special, melancholy meaning with the death of my mother. Perhaps it's still too fresh, but as much as I love this song (especially now), I can't stop the tears when I hear it. Much love and heartfelt prayers to all who've lost a loved one. I have to believe time will temper that horrible ache in our chests.
This is the story of my life. When I die I’d like this song to be played at my funeral. I almost never paid rent ever, I’ve buried my beautiful partner in crime 5 years ago, I’ve been in to 42 countries, never lost a fight and served my country with pride. Always running against the wind.
Thanks for your service, life is so precious as a black man at the age 56, I'm still living in U.N.S. worry about if police going to kill me so what I'm saying you can never feel what as a black men going through in life so take your thumb out your ass .
You would NEVER understand being a black man in this world going through Life you cannot feel this how in the HELL 2021 I still don't feel as a human being.

My uncle’s favorite song and funeral song 11 or 12 years ago, still feels like yesterday! He died two before Christmas buried on the 28th and still a shock to all of us he was what held the WHOLE FAMILY together and now it’s a huge mess and I can’t even try to do what he has always done but I still have my childhood memories! Everything he taught me, the compassion, and living with your heart on your sleeve he lived a great life but taken to too soon 😞 it still feels like yesterday! I can fortunately hear his voice his calls and messages on voicemails
I worked on an overnight grocery store stocking crew in So. Cal. We would always listen to KLOS. I always enjoyed these Bob Seger songs when they were played.
Dedicated this to my brother as we scattered his ashes in the Vegas wind .. we from U.K. but that was his favourite place so that’s where he went and to this beautiful song x
Man, this song is my life story. The one that got away when I was younger, followed by an amazing career flying all over the globe, followed by the realization that everyone around me was phony and certainly didn’t have my best interests at heart. The only difference is that my drifter’s days are still not over as my career is still going strong in my 50’s now, and I’m still all over the world, but eventually, they will be over and I will live the final verse of this song. My only hope is that I find that shelter against the wind, which to me, means the love of a good woman. Here’s to hope. I wonder where I will be in 10 years? Perhaps retired, perhaps with the “one”.
Maggie, I see that life is catching up with you, I turned 61 this year and I feel that I understand Bob Serger more and more the older I get. His song "Against The Wind" was written with extreme understanding of Love, Life and experiences. God Bless Bob, he has helped to enlighten my love for music and life!
The song reminds me of myself, I'm 68 now an Avid Seger fan for 40yrs ! I've drove and traveled through 26 states and lived in Las Vegas 5 times ! . Hollywood nights also hits close to home with me , heading West to see some old friends, good for the Soul! .Turn the Page ! On the road again. I always thought there was Truth in Music or Songs 🎵!.
Seems like yesterday But it was long ago Janey was lovely she was the queen of my nights There in darkness with the radio playin low And the secrets that we shared, mountains that we moved Caught like a wildfire out of control Til there was nothin left to burn and nothin left to prove And I remember what she said to me How she swore that it never would end I remember how she held me oh so tight Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then Against the wind We were runnin against the wind We were young and strong we were runnin against the wind And the years rolled slowly past And I found myself alone Surrounded by strangers I thought were my friends Found myself further and further from my home and I Guess I lost my way There were oh so many roads I was livin to run and runnin to live Never worried about payin or even how much I owe Movin' eight miles a minute and for months at a time Breakin all of the rules that would bend I began to find myself searchin Searchin for shelter again and again Against the wind Little somethin against the wind I found myself seekin shelter against the wind Well those drifters days are past me now I've got so much more to think about Deadlines and commitments What to leave in, what to leave out Against the wind I'm still runnin against the wind I'm older now but still runnin against the wind Well I'm older now but still runnin against the wind Against the wind Against the wind Still runnin Against the wind Against the wind Against the wind...
I write for a living and occasionally do panels on writing. I almost always say "like the song says, it's about what to leave in and what to leave out".
My favourite song ever! I was only 6 years old when it was released, so have appreciated it as a young person and now at 48… “Wish I didn’t know now what I didn’t know then”, & “Surrounded by strangers I thought were my friends” are the best lines and more appreciated as you get older. There will never be a song that can compare to this. The Eagles, Van Morrison & Glenn Frey are the only ones to come anywhere near this masterpiece. 💜🙌
Against the win was my father’s favorite song. He was layed to rest last Saturday we just had to play this for his send off and I just find myself listening to it again 😢😢😢love u dad rest.❤

might have been something personal (OR POLITICAL) going on there. He has a good 40 year career under his belt and always made real good ROCKANDROLL! Not blues, or soul or jazz... but AMERICAN ROCKANDROLL!!!
I have not been able to get this tune out of my head. I have not heard it for many years yet when I go about whatever my living requires I hear it over and over and over again! I feel as though it is my effort to reach a better life... and hopefully those around me would follow as well!
Remembering the love of my life and how families can stand in the way of love. So sorry I set you aside Mark. Will never forget Rose Arena. Such a special night.
And the years rolled slowly past And I found myself alone Surrounded by strangers I thought were my friends :( I found myself further and further from my home And I guess I lost my way There were oh so many roads I was living to run and running to live
Singers like Bob Seger or Bruce Springsteen sing about life. About the daily struggles we all have. That's what make this kind of artist special. Everytime I heard this song I get emotional!

This song is dedicated to my friend Kody Scott, one of his favorite songs, And he ran against the wind until the end.. S.I. P Kody 🙏🏾❤️
Monster Kody. That was a tragic end for a very smart man who struggled to tame his demons. If they left him alone and didn’t constantly harass him, I truly believe the sky was the limit for him. Rest In Paradise, my condolences ma’am

Right on man.
You don't have to be young to have a love like that. I found it at 38 and she was 41. But it ended far too soon. She's been dead for 20 years, and I've never found another love like her, and I'm 70.

Right on
Against the wind
I'm older now but still running against the wind.
applies to so many of us then we find ourselves in the last generation.
exactly!!! well put my friend our stories are very similar its strange. my first one was the one and i blew it badly have barely gotten over it after 6 years going back to school here soon to finish my degree and hoping my current gf is the one and that i dont make those same mistakes. Good Luck to yu man.
Thanks. Wish you the best as well
pinoywheelgunner mine was screwing. around but im in construction i cant keep a relationship.
Such a great reminder that can have anyone thinking about their past and all the memories they've made. Great song indeed.

Don't let go

One of the greatest songs of all time...
bob seger is one of the greatest, singer, song writers and live performers.
Great song.

Steve Melancon Love that lyric too man. The funny thing is, Bob Seger hated that lyric. He wanted to take it out, but was convinced to leave it in.
yeah he didn't think it sounded quite grammatically correct, but it is from my limited knowledge of grammar rules, haha.

The only difference is that my drifter’s days are still not over as my career is still going strong in my 50’s now, and I’m still all over the world, but eventually, they will be over and I will live the final verse of this song.
