Does it even make sense not to drink on holidays or can someone make an excuse for that

I am super social and met more people than I ever have in sobriety. I go to AA young peeps conventions, over 4,000 people.
Mens camping trips with over 200 people. Big dinners, bowling and after 1.5 years I went to shows and festivals again but this time with my new sober friends.

It's interesting hearing the experience of someone who got through college drinking and then gave it up later. I got completely sober when I went to college, because I knew I probably wouldn't get through it unless I did. I was super depressed at the time, doing a wide variety of drugs, just trying to forget about my problems. Got clean in college, went to AA, stayed clean through my master's. I always kinda figured when I had like 1-4 years clean (off everything, not like California sober) that I'd stay sober forever, but in the last two years of my sobriety, I started to question it more and more. I realized over time that the word "alcoholic" doesn't really mean anything, and that I didn't meet the common definition of it either way. I set a date for when I'd start again; my 6 year anniversary. I started two days before that, because I was extremely excited. That was about 5 months ago now. For the first 2-3 months I drank a lot, did some psychs, figured some stuff out about life. Closer to the end of the 5th month since I've been drinking again, and I drink between 2 times a week and once in two weeks depending on what's going on. I'm thinking about taking it out of my life again, but not for AA reasons (I find them a bit irrelevant to my life), instead because I have noticed I feel irritatingly warm as it gets processed by my body. Weird how things change.

Thanks for the comment! Yeah, I sometimes wish I could go back and tell my college self to stop - similar to how you did but I'm not going to look in the past too much. It sounds like you went about it the right way and it's interesting to hear your experience now that you've tried it again.
I can somewhat relate as it's been a couple of weeks since the new year and I've drank a couple of times and I've realized why I took a break in the first place. It's nothing serious like you said but it's more of me relearning the basic negatives of it feeling bad.

Congrats on your sobriety! It is very hard to stay sober, especially through holidays, special occasions, birthdays, Christmas, and New Year's. I've been sober now since October 30th, 2021 from alcohol. I am in my 3rd year of sobriety and counting. One day at a time.

When things are hard to resist you need to plan a routine that keeps you away from temptation. While doing this you need to decide on what good thing you are going to go after now that you are not indulging the temptation. For drinkers I would recommend focussing on getting good sleep. Alcohol prevents you from getting REM sleep. If you are drinking you are probably not exercising. Exercise helps you get more deep sleep. Restorative sleep. Look forward to the person you will be when you are getting perfect sleep!
Also, you need to grow up. Look at drinking like you did growing out of watching cartoons. Parties are for high school and college. Parties where the nihilists live in oblivion and the intelligent go to socialize. Find a new scene that gives you the oblivion or socialization. Meditate and get some group hobbies.
