    I love how the New York crowd booed Shawn Michaels and cheered Sid on this show. They popped when Sid came out. WHO'S THE MAN!!!! Fist bumping every fan on the way down to the ring. Another version of Taker here too! The (Bat) Pirate Taker!!!

      Heels had been cheered before and at the Garden, I mean Hulk Hogan was Top babyface and worked Heel most of his WWF run lol.
      But never was a Heel that over overwhelmingly like SID was on this night. No matter what he did, cheers were louder than ever when Sid fucked Jose Lethario up and hit him & Shawn with the camera.

      @@codycampbell6257 Same here Cody. Respect the mans work and he’s an all timer for sure but really was a POS as a person. Especially how he was so disrespectful to Vader in Summer Slam 96 showing him up in the ring and calling him names. He’s lucky he was Vince’s golden boy at that time or not only Vader but probably a good amount of that locker room would have kicked his ass for that display. (I’m thinking Taker for sure)

      As a native New Yorker, I can say as someone that was at wrestlemania 10 and 20 Michaels was not accepted by that crowd. Against razor and in the triple threat with Benoit and HHH, shawn was not the popular choice in those instances

    • @rustykuntz94
      @rustykuntz94 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danielescalera6638 I wondered also was it more the NY crowds hate towards Shawn more than a loving of SID? Or in both WWF & WCW by 96 times were changing and fans were getting tired of having the white meat traditional babyfaces pushed as the guys to root for. Especially for someone like Michaels who was such a arrogant and obnoxious Heel for so many years prior to 96.

    Conrad missed the point about what upset Vince. It wasnt about ring rust, it was the line JR used that as good as Bret had been, he didnt think that either Shawn or Sid "in this ring, on this night, could have beaten Bret Hart" which prompted Vince to say "I totally disagree with that". Something upset Vince about THAT line. Maybe he didn't the picture painted that a guy just coming back was that much better than the two guys he had going on last. Maybe he didn't want the idea pushed that the WWF champ wasnt clearly the best until he loses it. Or maybe it was just because it was Shawn. Draw your own conclusion.

    That Austin/Bret match didn’t have the heat and drama of the Mania match but as a wrestling, JCP-style match, it was flawless - easily as good as Bret/Perfect at Summerslam 91 IMO. This was probably Austin’s last great technical performance before his series with Benoit 5 years later and at this point, he wasn’t covering up that he was an excellent technical wrestler - maybe the best in WWE after Bret and Owen

      Vader had better reactions in 1997 when he was on a losing streak but they were never as big as Sid's reactions in 1996. Vader's best work was as a monster heel - not as a baby face. Go back to Sid's first WWF run. His crowd reactions there were louder than Vader's babyface reactions in 1997. Sid was over with the WWF crowd. Vader was not. Prichard is correct. Even with the right push, Vader wasn't going to get Sid's reactions in 1996 or 1997.
