William Luong This AC weighs 14 lbs and is recommended that it stays resting on a level surface so drainage water from inside doesn’t flow into the wrong areas within the unit.
First of all, thank you for taking the time to make this comprehensive and interesting video. Secondly, OMG Zero Breeze are going to love it. You obviously like the unit and that's reflective in the overall ambience of the video, but you also make valid and constructive criticisms about some of it's limitations. Very credible. I particularly like the part about the extortionate price of the ZB battery, and the workaround together with costs which also outlines just how over-priced the OEM battery is. I'm tempted to talk about the (at present) ongoing quality control issues experienced by many who have received their units and others, especially those in Europe who have not received theirs or have any indication, due to zero communication (maybe a change of name is in order ;) of when or if they will. However, even though we're approaching 2 years overdue I will not say another word as hopefully this review will outlast these initial (?) supply and quality issues. Well done, and thanks again.
Thunderf00t just debunked this thing. The cost vs performance is dismal, and the customer service is just as bad. Your auto AC is far better at cooling your car. A small home AC unit is way cheaper and again, a better performer. Taking it camping? Putting it in your tent? Take something to set it on because you need to collect the condensed water that drips from the bottom. Also, the battery runs it for about 4-5 hours. Of course you need mains power to both run it without a battery, or to recharge the battery- you can't do both at the same time.

I agree about the need to vent the AC! I see that it comes with a vent hose and it's meant for small spaces and camping NOT an immense room! So, I don't understand all the negativity. This seems like a great idea and one that will certainly be improved in the coming years. I use a portable AC/ with heat pump in my non insulated 10 x 12 shed. The inside temp exceeds 100 degrees during the Dog Days of Summer and the AC is a godsend! The expandable exhaust hose is about 6" in diameter and 5 feet long from the AC to the dryer exhaust vent that I installed in the corner of the shed. The hose gets hot. But it doesn't really radiate much heat or affect the ambient temp of the room itself beyond a 3 feet radius of the hose. But I bought the recommended insulation sock for the hose so it's CHILL CITY!!!
I got my unit working. Once you turn off the unit it will take about 3 hrs for the compression to go down before you can start it back up so once you turn it on leave it on until you are done cooling. I run my unit off lipo and a 12v battery. I am happy with the unit as it is the first of its kind but you best support will be from other youtube vids. I run my zero breeze from multiple battery sources in parallel which is better for the longevity of the batteries (no deep discharges). The unit consumes about 135 watts when running.
admhou1 It took a year and a day for me to receive mine. However, they weren’t in production when I ordered mine, so I’m not sure the extremely long wait still applies as much now. They had to halt production 2 or 3 times before the current version became available (shipping defects, supplier issues, ac adapter failures, and re-designs of drainage channel and soundproofing). It also took a month to ship via boat from China to New Jersey, USA, and then about a week getting through customs. Hopefully nowadays things won’t take as long.
Oh My God!!! Finally an actual air conditioning system!!! So far I've only seen swamp coolers this size. I've been thinking about why a company hasn't made a product like this for years.
Wondering how many purchasers of the zero breeze have had as negative of an experience as us? I have been in contact with the "fine" folks at zero breeze about how poorly the unit performed. They asked me to send a video showing the performance of my zero breeze, which I did. It lowered the ambient temperature about 1 degree in 10 minutes. After I pestered them about the video, they finally got back to me and said that the unit was working as designed " But if you blow directly to your body you will feel the cold air in you and a quick cooling down of your somentosensory temperature." I'm not really sure what that means. Their website clearly states. It can cool the environment temperature down from 90℉ to 72℉ in a 50 square feet space and reduce the humidity at the same time. It does not even come close to doing this. The unit is a piece of junk. Buying the unit is a wast of money.
Thanks for the review. I was thinking about one of these for my boat. I don't think it can meet my needs when I'm anchored. I think fans are a better option with good a good reflex tarp and some water misting, during those hot months.
I am currently working on making this run of my electric car. I use a 400 watt inverter so I can pipe the power using an extension cord up to the top level of my house, the location of my bedroom. In the bedroom I use the power brick to convert the AC voltage back into DC.
It's advertised as an A/C unit, not a fan with a compressor, so wouldn't you think that when you first turn it on it would automatically engage the compressor? I don't think I've ever owned an A/C unit that when I turned it on, I would also have to switch on the compressor in order for air-conditioned air to come out, so one would think having the ability to turn off compressor to revert it to a fan would be a plus, vs it being a negative, but hey to each their own.
$420 for a small air conditioner? May as well buy a full size AC for half the price. Is it really effective on a hot day? 90 to 110 degrees? Or only good on warm days?
RedRider1600 True but this is a new product and you know pioneers pay the highest prices. If it’s performance is consistent, you should be very comfortable whenever you use it. Since this video, I’ve used it at two DJ gigs in the booth and to cool a non-climate controlled bathroom with positive results all three times.
The beauty is that this is an actual vapor compression unit, so it definitely beats a fan especially in humid situations. Its very portable even with the alternative battery set up I use. For me, it was worth the investment.
and you will install a mini split when you're tent camping or boon docking in ...anywhere BLM land...and your mini-split weights 12.8 Lbs?... right... to explain the obvious, it's not meant for your 2-car garage, duh!
AT 17:30 I am still waiting for the price of the unit. Did I miss it? Or did you not disclose price because many would terminate the video. Amazon has it for $999 as I just looked today. I heard the price of the accessories but not the unit in the video. Perhaps I did miss it. Nonetheless, this would not work for my needs but thanks for the review.
I just got mine this week and it is having issues with the compressor coming on. I have sent an email to their support and at this time I am waiting to hear back how they can resolve the issue I am having with the new unit.
For a camper application the zero breeze compares as follows. It uses a little more that a quarter, but not quite a third of the power of an average 5000 BTU household window air conditioner. It's BTU rating is 1100, so you are getting about a fifth of the output. It might be practical for a small (like a teardrop or a Scamp) camper, but will be insufficient for anything larger. Be sure to pack a couple of spare high capacity batteries and a way to recharge them. My home 5000 BTU a/c uses 4.5 amps at 120 volts which translates to 45 amps at 12 volts. (Volts X amps = Watts) So to run this 1100 BTU, 12.5 amp, 12 volt a/c for 5 hours would require 62.5 amp/hours of battery power. A group 27 marine deep cycle battery (flooded lead-acid type) has a capacity of 90-100 amp/hours and can be discharged no more than 50% without damaging the battery. It weighs between 40 and 50 pounds. So that battery would be sufficient to run the zero breeze for around four hours. Then you'd need to recharge the battery. You could do this with 200-300 Watts of solar PV panels providing that you had at least 5-6 sun hours each day or you could run a gasoline powered generator for several hours to recharge the battery. For my 22 foot vintage Winnebago, I would need two of these units or a single unit with twice the BTU rating. Of course that would also double the power requirements. Most campers/RVs are designed to be hooked up to electric power at a campground. In this scenario, only the venting of the hot air exhaust would be an issue. It is a good concept, but it still needs some development before it becomes practical for mass consumption.
The price of the battery is expensive so understand you there. The unit itself is expensive at 2 or even 3 times the price of a window unit. As an early adopter you are paying development cost. When the Chinese knock offs hit Ebay I fully intend to purchase 1 or 2.

15 degrees Fahrenheit lower then ambient at the front end and about 20 degrees HIGHER then ambient on the back end. Dehumidifying means leaking water as there is no container. When you use long enough the room will get warmer! You really need to connect the end to a hose and make sure the hot air goes out of the room.
They all show the exhaust hose yet do not connect it to vent to outside, which is basically not giving this product its full potential. And if you insulate your exhaust hose it will be even more efficient as they can put off a lot of radiant like heat. I did and my house portable works so much better. THIS IS WHY THE DUMMIES KEEP SAYING AND COMMENTING ON THE VENTS, SO GUYS, DO YOUR VIDEO REVIEW WITH IT VENTED, IN A SMALL HOT ROOM, RV, OR CAR, or TENT, THEN they will get answers. No one is getting the correct readings without venting and its unfair to say it cannot do a job if you are not DOING YOURS by venting it in the first place. Oh and read up on how cold a car air conditioner should measure when they are repairing it, or reloading refrigerant. Using a thermometer suited for the job, has small dial, long metal rod which you stick in the vents. Frankly I doubt using the devices they are using, outside the vent is even giving you any kind of idea what the air temp. really is. This is for cars but same idea. SEE SEARCH ON SUBJECT: . Measure at least 3 inches into the center dash vent. Temperature should be 40 to 42 deg F. Higher fan speeds, resulting in high air volume, will result in higher vent temps. Rear cabin systems are normally 10 degrees warmer because they have a larger volume of space to cool.

Hey Jay - I'm looking at buying the unit this week and wanted to get your opinion on the best way to run it in a camper van during the day and overnight. So, it would be on a lot during summer months. The set up with the battery you rigged at the end of this video - you said it would run for 1 hour...and Zero Breeze's $229 battery only runs it for 5 hours on low... could you advise me on how to get it to run longer for 10-12+ hours over night and for 8 hours during the day? If money weren't an option what would I purchase to keep the van cool thru Arizona summers with the least amount of work? Thanks!!!
Might want to consider the cruising motorcycle market. Your device is a bit pricey, but for guys with expensive motorcycles, (such as Harleys and Indians) I could see using one of these on a hot summer day stuffed into a luggage carrier or even a backpack, sending cool air to a rider in a "coolsuit".
Technically, the battery can be used to charge anything that is powered by a USB cable. The battery powers the AC, but the AC itself has USB ports.....so......
This is the first product of its type that I have seen. The concept is good. But the product could use some improvements. Perhaps future versions will show some improvements. Here are my suggestions... First, dump the LED lights, bluetooth speaker and other "Fluff" features. Let the air conditioner stand on its own as an air conditioner. It doesn't need to be a Swiss army knife. Second, as others have said, bring down the price point. Third, offer a battery power solution that does NOT cost more (like more than double) than a window air conditioner of 5 times the BTU rating. (Yes, I know that portable is part of the unit's advertising, but I can use a $100 group 27, marine deep cycle battery for power and have 90-100 amp/hours of capacity.) For camping, I'll either be car/tent camping or RV camping. Either way, the size and weight of the group 27 battery isn't going to be an issue. If I'm in a backpacking or hiking scenario, I won't be taking an air conditioner with me or else I'll be using hired Sherpa's to carry my equipment. In that case it'll be their problem instead of mine. Fourth and finally, the outside vent accessory should be a standard part of the unit for proper and efficient operation. Making that an accessory is a bit like building a lamp and offering an on/off switch as an accessory. Anyway, I hope to see the new and improved version come to market soon either from this company or another.
clyde alspaugh I’ve found the unit to be a really good first attempt. Since the review, I’ve upgraded the adapter to a 180 watt unit from the standard 150 watt (I think the 150 was maxed out). It’s worked like a champ is multiple situations. I know many feel like the LED and the speaker and USB ports are “fluff” but they sure are convenient instead of using multiple devices. I wish it had a built-in battery. I mainly use it in “spot-cool” mode, so I like that the exhaust hose is detachable.
True Jay, its a good first attempt. I'm glad that you are getting good results from your unit. I like that there is not a built in battery. It increases the service life of the unit. Batteries have only a finite number of charge/discharge cycles. Leaving the power source a separate item allows the user more options. To clarify, I like that the exhaust hose/tube is detachable. But I think it should be included as a standard part of the basic unit rather than being sold as an accessory.
I am guessing they make the battery rechargeable and removable for the same reason anyone does, so you can charge one while the other is working, and have continuing function, you would have 4-5 hours air conditioning then nothing while you put it on recharge. And all the fluff, how much could it weigh? It's there so the RV owner, camper etc doesn't have to carry all that other stuff besides the air conditioner. And upgrading the amps may in fact ruin your air conditioner, or I would think they would of provided a higher one in the first place. Thats why they warn you about using same kind of adapters on things when you replace them. A fire in your tent at night while sleeping might not be so desirable. Or your RV or home.
Hi Debra. Yes, you are right about the battery. If you listen closely to the video, this unit does not have a built-in battery. Building the unit this way gives the user more power options and makes the unit lighter. Now to be clear about the batteries... Rechargable batteries are rated in amp hours. An amp hour is the delivery of a 1 amp current sustained for 1 hour. So a battery with a higher amp hour capacity won't harm the unit so long as the voltage is correct. The unit pulls the current to it rather than the battery pushing the current to the unit. So a small rechargable battery might have a 35 amp hour capacity while a larger deep cycle battery might have a capacity of around 100 amp hours. But if the voltage is correct, either battery can be used to power the unit. As to the fluff features, some people will like them. Others, like me, won't. My opinion is that if I need a flashlight, I'll carry a flashlight. I'll probably not need a flashlight at the place I'm using my miniature air conditioner. More likely, I'll need it someplace where the larger size is a negative rather than a positive attribute. Also, I'll mention the bluetooth speaker. My opinion is that since it is an ancillary component of the unit, that it is likely the cheapest (and lowest quality) bluetooth speaker that can be had. If I want bluetooth speakers, I want higher performance from them than the bottom of the line quality can provide. I'd rather buy my own choice of speaker and locate it wherever is convenient for me at the moment. Therefore, having the bluetooth speaker incorporated into the unit is, for me, a waste of space and cost. I wouldn't use it. Of course, we are all entitled to our own opinion and if they differ, it doesn't make either less valid.

If anybody ever makes one of these that really works and works in the south with a good fair price and great customer service they will make bank bc I’ve tried the diy air conditioner and it did not work and I’m looking for something that I can use to sit in my garage and work. I just need it to cool me, sit it on a table and point it at me while Im in my garage periodically. Customer service is a must.

Jason, thank you so much for your review! I am wanting to purchase an A/C unit for my cuddy cabin in my old 1966 cabin cruiser. All that I see available is a minimum of 6000 btuh's for portable A/C units. Way too much for a small cuddy cabin that is maybe 12'x6' maximum. It would satisfy the temp setting too quickly and leave the cuddy cold and damp, ugh. 1100 btuh per hour is probably going to run longer and dehumidify too. So, why do I see this unit for nearly $900 dollars on Amazon and $299 on LilyShops.com? Next question, I have plenty of 12 volt deep cycle batteries on board. Looks like I could run on them easily if I am staying overnight on the lake anchored far from a regular 120 volt power source. Your thoughts? Where did you make your purchase? Derek Oehlert it’s rated at 1100 BTU/hr so I wouldn’t expect it to cool the entire camper. It will keep you comfortable and reduce the humidity though.
The base of the unit has a drainage channel built in beneath the evaporator that drains to the rear of the unit; there is an opening that will release the condensation at the rear. The Zero-Breeze also comes with a condensation hose that attaches to the rear opening so you can route the condensation somewhere else.
Jay Lee great job on the videos. I have been testing my unit in San Antonio and plan to use it in a roof top tent. I have had an issue with water dripping out near the drain port. Have you experienced similar issue? Or have I am I not doing something correct and this causes water water to drip out of the over flow under the power
Also it’s strange that the product they sell is different from the models the advertise on the website as the videos and spec pictures don’t have the same side vents but the cooler option pictures do... seems sketchy as well as it announcing people from different parts of the world buying it in real time
If you don't install the external vent, then yeah, that's what is going to happen. If an air conditioner like this was *perfectly* efficient, then the heat coming out the back would balance with the cooler air coming out the front and you would get zero average change in room temperature. Unfortunately, you can't get 100% efficiency, so the net result will be for the room temperature to increase. You *really* need to vent the heat out of the living space. Now, if this thing had a vent where cool air could be piped elsewhere, then it would open up some other possibilities. One thing that I would consider it for at that point would be to use it to cool the helmet of a rider on a motorcycle. Car race drivers have helmet systems where they have hose attachments for air intakes and this sort of modification to the system would be perfect for that. If you can keep the head cool, the rest of the body feels a lot cooler also.
Can you test this with a thermometer? You will get different results as the gun will only pick up a surfaces temp which can vary depending on material. A 18F-20F degree split between air temp and the supply is ideal. Thanks in advance.
collin cortez Good observation. This is why I checked the temperature at the evaporator and at the condenser themselves. I’ve done this multiple times in multiple scenarios over the last month to get the values listed at the end of the video. According to my findings, it averages about a 13-15 degree F drop from ambient at the evaporator coil. The ambient temperature was cross-checked with the thermostat located near the testing location in my living room.
Thanks for the review. 2 questions. I have a teardrop camper. Sleeper area is approximately 24 sq feet and about 72 cubic feet. Do you think this unit could keep the inside cool around 70-ish on a hot Georgia day? Next question I did not see you mentioned anything about the compressor cycling on and off does this compressor just run continuously or does it cut itself off at a certain temperature?
Zach Sweet Good questions! 1) It’s all about insulation. Single-hose Portable AC units have a disadvantage inherently because they have to use some of the cooled air to exhaust the heat; the ZB is no different. Because of this, they cool slower than other types. I can’t guarantee that it will keep the temps in the 70s, especially not knowing the ambient, amount of sunlight, amount of occupants, etc. I CAN say, however, that after field testing this thing in this Georgia heat wave we’ve been having for the last 2 weeks, it will definitely keep you COMFORTABLE. 2) This model does not have a thermostat, so the compressor will not cycle once the desired temp has been reached. Maybe the ZB 2.0 will!
Hi Jay. Do you know what the "starting surge" is on Zero Breeze? I'd like to use it when I go camping and I have a Honda 1000i generator. This generator should be able to run a 5000BTU AC but it can't start it :-/ may be Zero Breeze can solve that problem for me. Thanks
Marian Farah it can’t? My Earthquake IG800 can And it only supports 800w. Be sure the Honda is not on ECO mode. As for the ZB, i’ve notice the compressor starts very differently. I am not sure if it is because the compressor is DC instead of AC, but it doesn’t have the surge that a traditional AC compressor has. It’s as if it’s been built to start with very low current pull. I’ve tested it with a 300w PSW inverter, a 12volt battery with a 15 amp fuse, and on a generator and the ZB never had a problem starting the compressor, so I doubt your Honda will have a problem starting the compressor. Remember, the AC adapter that comes with it is only rated for 150 Watts.
RC I agree it needs work but it’s a good first attempt and it does actually work. I don’t know how they chose the name, but maybe it’s because on a windy day the fans get easily overwhelmed; you can only use it outside when there is “zero” breeze lol
The fact that they want that much for the battery, that I could probably buy for $25 at the local big box store, tells me that air conditioner is way overpriced.
Actually there is a better alternative at a cheaper price. The Icybreeze cooler/ac. Yes there is a hassle with adding ice and water but with enough ice it will easily last for 6 to 8 hours and certain ice packs such as cooler shock will make it cold longer. One big plus with Icybreeze is that the temperature can dip 35 degrees below the ambient room temperature. Zero Breeze only about 15 degrees which is pretty bad considering it has a compressor and refrigerant. The fan on Icybreeze blows up to 25 mph of COLD air which is a heck of a lot more than a typical fan which is around 8 - 12 mph. Zero Breeze is overpriced and there are definitely cooler and cheaper portable alternatives despite a little inconvenience of adding ice and water. What matters to me is the results. How it feels and how much it costs.
Why not design one with a helium stirling cold piston that turns air into super cold Liquid gases that can then fill a condensing coil with air being forced through it to cool the air with the boil off vapor from the heat exchange being released with the outward air flow? A better way to cool a room. 😊
Stephen Fiore The ZB comes with an exhaust hose and condensation line that can be routed out of a window. Although the unit is IPX3 waterproof, I wouldn’t hold the unit itself out of the window.
This is only to blow directly on a person or more accurately a body part such as face as opposed to an entire body. To know whether it would give any usable relief you need to be in a hotter room such as high 70s to 80+. Im a hvac guy and at 1000 btu's my oppinion of this device is useless taking in consideration noise factor and cost. This is a great device to cool off Barbie in her dollhouse as opposed to a human. Just my opinion of course and we all know what opinions are worth. Outside of that this was a well done and informative video.
I said that? I thought I said it would NOT cool the room. I’ll review the video. I use it mainly for spot-cooling me, and 1100 BTU is enough for that. For instance, when I have to watch the kids outside, the ZB has REALLY been handy as I’ve been comfortable and the kids seem to not care about the heat.
Thanks Jay, for the clarification. Yes, I understood that the unit would only spot cool. But, given time it would probably keep a very small room (a closet, really) several degrees cooler than the surrounding rooms. Still, inadequate for cooling an average sized room, but the unit isn't designed for that purpose anyway. It would be nice if you could get a practical unit that would handle a small room though.
Great review! I live in Florida and I am interested in such an air conditioner just to have a way to stay reasonably cool if we lose power from a hurricane. I went through 24 hours (we were lucky it was only 24 hours), but it was a miserable experience! This was from Irma last year.

First of all, thank you for taking the time to make this comprehensive and interesting video. Secondly, OMG Zero Breeze are going to love it. You obviously like the unit and that's reflective in the overall ambience of the video, but you also make valid and constructive criticisms about some of it's limitations. Very credible. I particularly like the part about the extortionate price of the ZB battery, and the workaround together with costs which also outlines just how over-priced the OEM battery is.
I'm tempted to talk about the (at present) ongoing quality control issues experienced by many who have received their units and others, especially those in Europe who have not received theirs or have any indication, due to zero communication (maybe a change of name is in order ;) of when or if they will. However, even though we're approaching 2 years overdue I will not say another word as hopefully this review will outlast these initial (?) supply and quality issues.

Thunderf00t just debunked this thing. The cost vs performance is dismal, and the customer service is just as bad. Your auto AC is far better at cooling your car. A small home AC unit is way cheaper and again, a better performer. Taking it camping? Putting it in your tent? Take something to set it on because you need to collect the condensed water that drips from the bottom. Also, the battery runs it for about 4-5 hours. Of course you need mains power to both run it without a battery, or to recharge the battery- you can't do both at the same time.

I agree about the need to vent the AC! I see that it comes with a vent hose and it's meant for small spaces and camping NOT an immense room! So, I don't understand all the negativity. This seems like a great idea and one that will certainly be improved in the coming years.
I use a portable AC/ with heat pump in my non insulated 10 x 12 shed. The inside temp exceeds 100 degrees during the Dog Days of Summer and the AC is a godsend! The expandable exhaust hose is about 6" in diameter and 5 feet long from the AC to the dryer exhaust vent that I installed in the corner of the shed. The hose gets hot. But it doesn't really radiate much heat or affect the ambient temp of the room itself beyond a 3 feet radius of the hose. But I bought the recommended insulation sock for the hose so it's CHILL CITY!!!
I got my unit working. Once you turn off the unit it will take about 3 hrs for the compression to go down before you can start it back up so once you turn it on leave it on until you are done cooling. I run my unit off lipo and a 12v battery. I am happy with the unit as it is the first of its kind but you best support will be from other youtube vids. I run my zero breeze from multiple battery sources in parallel which is better for the longevity of the batteries (no deep discharges). The unit consumes about 135 watts when running.

admhou1 It took a year and a day for me to receive mine. However, they weren’t in production when I ordered mine, so I’m not sure the extremely long wait still applies as much now. They had to halt production 2 or 3 times before the current version became available (shipping defects, supplier issues, ac adapter failures, and re-designs of drainage channel and soundproofing). It also took a month to ship via boat from China to New Jersey, USA, and then about a week getting through customs. Hopefully nowadays things won’t take as long.

Wondering how many purchasers of the zero breeze have had as negative of an experience as us? I have been in contact with the "fine" folks at zero breeze about how poorly the unit performed. They asked me to send a video showing the performance of my zero breeze, which I did. It lowered the ambient temperature about 1 degree in 10 minutes. After I pestered them about the video, they finally got back to me and said that the unit was working as designed " But if you blow directly to your body you will feel the cold air in you and a quick cooling down of your somentosensory temperature." I'm not really sure what that means. Their website clearly states.
It can cool the environment temperature down from 90℉ to 72℉ in a 50 square feet space and reduce the humidity at the same time. It does not even come close to doing this. The unit is a piece of junk. Buying the unit is a wast of money.
Thanks for the review. I was thinking about one of these for my boat. I don't think it can meet my needs when I'm anchored. I think fans are a better option with good a good reflex tarp and some water misting, during those hot months.
I am currently working on making this run of my electric car. I use a 400 watt inverter so I can pipe the power using an extension cord up to the top level of my house, the location of my bedroom. In the bedroom I use the power brick to convert the AC voltage back into DC.

It's advertised as an A/C unit, not a fan with a compressor, so wouldn't you think that when you first turn it on it would automatically engage the compressor? I don't think I've ever owned an A/C unit that when I turned it on, I would also have to switch on the compressor in order for air-conditioned air to come out, so one would think having the ability to turn off compressor to revert it to a fan would be a plus, vs it being a negative, but hey to each their own.
$420 for a small air conditioner? May as well buy a full size AC for half the price.

RedRider1600 True but this is a new product and you know pioneers pay the highest prices. If it’s performance is consistent, you should be very comfortable whenever you use it. Since this video, I’ve used it at two DJ gigs in the booth and to cool a non-climate controlled bathroom with positive results all three times.

Is that much of an improvement over a cheap fan? Is it worth the extra $390, and 5 times the electricity? How much power does it use? 150 watts?
The beauty is that this is an actual vapor compression unit, so it definitely beats a fan especially in humid situations. Its very portable even with the alternative battery set up I use. For me, it was worth the investment.

I just got mine this week and it is having issues with the compressor coming on. I have sent an email to their support and at this time I am waiting to hear back how they can resolve the issue I am having with the new unit.

For a camper application the zero breeze compares as follows. It uses a little more that a quarter, but not quite a third of the power of an average 5000 BTU household window air conditioner. It's BTU rating is 1100, so you are getting about a fifth of the output. It might be practical for a small (like a teardrop or a Scamp) camper, but will be insufficient for anything larger. Be sure to pack a couple of spare high capacity batteries and a way to recharge them.
My home 5000 BTU a/c uses 4.5 amps at 120 volts which translates to 45 amps at 12 volts. (Volts X amps = Watts) So to run this 1100 BTU, 12.5 amp, 12 volt a/c for 5 hours would require 62.5 amp/hours of battery power. A group 27 marine deep cycle battery (flooded lead-acid type) has a capacity of 90-100 amp/hours and can be discharged no more than 50% without damaging the battery. It weighs between 40 and 50 pounds.
So that battery would be sufficient to run the zero breeze for around four hours. Then you'd need to recharge the battery. You could do this with 200-300 Watts of solar PV panels providing that you had at least 5-6 sun hours each day or you could run a gasoline powered generator for several hours to recharge the battery.
For my 22 foot vintage Winnebago, I would need two of these units or a single unit with twice the BTU rating. Of course that would also double the power requirements. Most campers/RVs are designed to be hooked up to electric power at a campground. In this scenario, only the venting of the hot air exhaust would be an issue.
It is a good concept, but it still needs some development before it becomes practical for mass consumption.
The price of the battery is expensive so understand you there. The unit itself is expensive at 2 or even 3 times the price of a window unit. As an early adopter you are paying development cost. When the Chinese knock offs hit Ebay I fully intend to purchase 1 or 2.

15 degrees Fahrenheit lower then ambient at the front end and about 20 degrees HIGHER then ambient on the back end. Dehumidifying means leaking water as there is no container. When you use long enough the room will get warmer! You really need to connect the end to a hose and make sure the hot air goes out of the room.
Agreed. It comes with a detachable exhaust hose for times you want to cool a room instead of spot-cool an area.
They all show the exhaust hose yet do not connect it to vent to outside, which is basically not giving this product its full potential. And if you insulate your exhaust hose it will be even more efficient as they can put off a lot of radiant like heat. I did and my house portable works so much better. THIS IS WHY THE DUMMIES KEEP SAYING AND COMMENTING ON THE VENTS, SO GUYS, DO YOUR VIDEO REVIEW WITH IT VENTED, IN A SMALL HOT ROOM, RV, OR CAR, or TENT, THEN they will get answers. No one is getting the correct readings without venting and its unfair to say it cannot do a job if you are not DOING YOURS by venting it in the first place. Oh and read up on how cold a car air conditioner should measure when they are repairing it, or reloading refrigerant. Using a thermometer suited for the job, has small dial, long metal rod which you stick in the vents. Frankly I doubt using the devices they are using, outside the vent is even giving you any kind of idea what the air temp. really is. This is for cars but same idea. SEE SEARCH ON SUBJECT: . Measure at least 3 inches into the center dash vent. Temperature should be 40 to 42 deg F. Higher fan speeds, resulting in high air volume, will result in higher vent temps. Rear cabin systems are normally 10 degrees warmer because they have a larger volume of space to cool.

Hey Jay - I'm looking at buying the unit this week and wanted to get your opinion on the best way to run it in a camper van during the day and overnight. So, it would be on a lot during summer months. The set up with the battery you rigged at the end of this video - you said it would run for 1 hour...and Zero Breeze's $229 battery only runs it for 5 hours on low... could you advise me on how to get it to run longer for 10-12+ hours over night and for 8 hours during the day? Might want to consider the cruising motorcycle market. Your device is a bit pricey, but for guys with expensive motorcycles, (such as Harleys and Indians) I could see using one of these on a hot summer day stuffed into a luggage carrier or even a backpack, sending cool air to a rider in a "coolsuit".
This Zerobreeze it will work in the Philippines to keep it Cool.
why does everything have to have a bluetooth speaker now?
Modified Sine wave inverter should be fine, those adapter are Switched-Mode.
If you have the juice to run an inverter...you would be much smarter to run this directly from the 12v battery system.
Technically, the battery can be used to charge anything that is powered by a USB cable. The battery powers the AC, but the AC itself has USB ports.....so......
This is the first product of its type that I have seen. The concept is good. But the product could use some improvements. Perhaps future versions will show some improvements.
Here are my suggestions...
First, dump the LED lights, bluetooth speaker and other "Fluff" features. Let the air conditioner stand on its own as an air conditioner. It doesn't need to be a Swiss army knife.
Second, as others have said, bring down the price point.
Third, offer a battery power solution that does NOT cost more (like more than double) than a window air conditioner of 5 times the BTU rating. (Yes, I know that portable is part of the unit's advertising, but I can use a $100 group 27, marine deep cycle battery for power and have 90-100 amp/hours of capacity.)
For camping, I'll either be car/tent camping or RV camping. Either way, the size and weight of the group 27 battery isn't going to be an issue. If I'm in a backpacking or hiking scenario, I won't be taking an air conditioner with me or else I'll be using hired Sherpa's to carry my equipment. In that case it'll be their problem instead of mine.
Fourth and finally, the outside vent accessory should be a standard part of the unit for proper and efficient operation. Making that an accessory is a bit like building a lamp and offering an on/off switch as an accessory.
Anyway, I hope to see the new and improved version come to market soon either from this company or another.
clyde alspaugh I’ve found the unit to be a really good first attempt. Since the review, I’ve upgraded the adapter to a 180 watt unit from the standard 150 watt (I think the 150 was maxed out). It’s worked like a champ is multiple situations. I know many feel like the LED and the speaker and USB ports are “fluff” but they sure are convenient instead of using multiple devices. I wish it had a built-in battery. I mainly use it in “spot-cool” mode, so I like that the exhaust hose is detachable.

I like that there is not a built in battery. It increases the service life of the unit. Batteries have only a finite number of charge/discharge cycles. Leaving the power source a separate item allows the user more options.
To clarify, I like that the exhaust hose/tube is detachable. But I think it should be included as a standard part of the basic unit rather than being sold as an accessory.

I am guessing they make the battery rechargeable and removable for the same reason anyone does, so you can charge one while the other is working, and have continuing function, you would have 4-5 hours air conditioning then nothing while you put it on recharge. And all the fluff, how much could it weigh? It's there so the RV owner, camper etc doesn't have to carry all that other stuff besides the air conditioner. And upgrading the amps may in fact ruin your air conditioner, or I would think they would of provided a higher one in the first place. Thats why they warn you about using same kind of adapters on things when you replace them. A fire in your tent at night while sleeping might not be so desirable. Or your RV or home.
Hi Debra. Yes, you are right about the battery. If you listen closely to the video, this unit does not have a built-in battery. Building the unit this way gives the user more power options and makes the unit lighter.
Now to be clear about the batteries... Rechargable batteries are rated in amp hours. An amp hour is the delivery of a 1 amp current sustained for 1 hour. So a battery with a higher amp hour capacity won't harm the unit so long as the voltage is correct. The unit pulls the current to it rather than the battery pushing the current to the unit. So a small rechargable battery might have a 35 amp hour capacity while a larger deep cycle battery might have a capacity of around 100 amp hours. But if the voltage is correct, either battery can be used to power the unit.
As to the fluff features, some people will like them. Others, like me, won't. My opinion is that if I need a flashlight, I'll carry a flashlight. I'll probably not need a flashlight at the place I'm using my miniature air conditioner. More likely, I'll need it someplace where the larger size is a negative rather than a positive attribute.
Also, I'll mention the bluetooth speaker. My opinion is that since it is an ancillary component of the unit, that it is likely the cheapest (and lowest quality) bluetooth speaker that can be had. If I want bluetooth speakers, I want higher performance from them than the bottom of the line quality can provide. I'd rather buy my own choice of speaker and locate it wherever is convenient for me at the moment. Therefore, having the bluetooth speaker incorporated into the unit is, for me, a waste of space and cost. I wouldn't use it.
Of course, we are all entitled to our own opinion and if they differ, it doesn't make either less valid.
A great review, well done. ZB should thank you personally for this video as they seem to be doing very little to promote it lately. But clear video and very imformative. Like a lot of poeple, I'm waiting very patiently for my ZB to come to UK....and waiting. But hey, it looks like I expect it to be in your video.

Jason, thank you so much for your review! I am wanting to purchase an A/C unit for my cuddy cabin in my old 1966 cabin cruiser. All that I see available is a minimum of 6000 btuh's for portable A/C units. Way too much for a small cuddy cabin that is maybe 12'x6' maximum. It would satisfy the temp setting too quickly and leave the cuddy cold and damp, ugh. 1100 btuh per hour is probably going to run longer and dehumidify too. So, why do I see this unit for nearly $900 dollars on Amazon and $299 on LilyShops.com? Next question, I have plenty of 12 volt deep cycle batteries on board. Looks like I could run on them easily if I am staying overnight on the lake anchored far from a regular 120 volt power source. Your thoughts? Where did you make your purchase? its crap, it takes hours to cool down a car while the car ac takes 5 minutes. this is a fan that is overpriced by several thousand percent.

Derek Oehlert it’s rated at 1100 BTU/hr so I wouldn’t expect it to cool the entire camper. It will keep you comfortable and reduce the humidity though.
How does it reduce humidity? Is there a water collection container built into the unit? Or does it just drip water all over place?
The base of the unit has a drainage channel built in beneath the evaporator that drains to the rear of the unit; there is an opening that will release the condensation at the rear. The Zero-Breeze also comes with a condensation hose that attaches to the rear opening so you can route the condensation somewhere else.
Jay Lee great job on the videos. I have been testing my unit in San Antonio and plan to use it in a roof top tent. I have had an issue with water dripping out near the drain port. Have you experienced similar issue? Or have I am I not doing something correct and this causes water water to drip out of the over flow under the power

Principal of cooling is moving heat from one place to another. So these machine is dumping the hot air back in to the living space?
If you don't install the external vent, then yeah, that's what is going to happen. If an air conditioner like this was *perfectly* efficient, then the heat coming out the back would balance with the cooler air coming out the front and you would get zero average change in room temperature. Unfortunately, you can't get 100% efficiency, so the net result will be for the room temperature to increase. You *really* need to vent the heat out of the living space.
Now, if this thing had a vent where cool air could be piped elsewhere, then it would open up some other possibilities. One thing that I would consider it for at that point would be to use it to cool the helmet of a rider on a motorcycle. Car race drivers have helmet systems where they have hose attachments for air intakes and this sort of modification to the system would be perfect for that. If you can keep the head cool, the rest of the body feels a lot cooler also.

Can you test this with a thermometer? You will get different results as the gun will only pick up a surfaces temp which can vary depending on material. A 18F-20F degree split between air temp and the supply is ideal. Thanks in advance.
collin cortez Good observation. This is why I checked the temperature at the evaporator and at the condenser themselves. I’ve done this multiple times in multiple scenarios over the last month to get the values listed at the end of the video. According to my findings, it averages about a 13-15 degree F drop from ambient at the evaporator coil. The ambient temperature was cross-checked with the thermostat located near the testing location in my living room.
Thanks for the review. 2 questions. I have a teardrop camper. Sleeper area is approximately 24 sq feet and about 72 cubic feet. Do you think this unit could keep the inside cool around 70-ish on a hot Georgia day? Next question I did not see you mentioned anything about the compressor cycling on and off does this compressor just run continuously or does it cut itself off at a certain temperature?

1) It’s all about insulation. Single-hose Portable AC units have a disadvantage inherently because they have to use some of the cooled air to exhaust the heat; the ZB is no different. Because of this, they cool slower than other types. I can’t guarantee that it will keep the temps in the 70s, especially not knowing the ambient, amount of sunlight, amount of occupants, etc. I CAN say, however, that after field testing this thing in this Georgia heat wave we’ve been having for the last 2 weeks, it will definitely keep you COMFORTABLE.
2) This model does not have a thermostat, so the compressor will not cycle once the desired temp has been reached. Maybe the ZB 2.0 will!
Can you plug the usb into a phone charger and then plug it into a camping outlet?
Hi Jay. Do you know what the "starting surge" is on Zero Breeze? I'd like to use it when I go camping and I have a Honda 1000i generator. This generator should be able to run a 5000BTU AC but it can't start it :-/ may be Zero Breeze can solve that problem for me. Thanks

As for the ZB, i’ve notice the compressor starts very differently. I am not sure if it is because the compressor is DC instead of AC, but it doesn’t have the surge that a traditional AC compressor has. It’s as if it’s been built to start with very low current pull. I’ve tested it with a 300w PSW inverter, a 12volt battery with a 15 amp fuse, and on a generator and the ZB never had a problem starting the compressor, so I doubt your Honda will have a problem starting the compressor. Remember, the AC adapter that comes with it is only rated for 150 Watts.

RC I agree it needs work but it’s a good first attempt and it does actually work. I don’t know how they chose the name, but maybe it’s because on a windy day the fans get easily overwhelmed; you can only use it outside when there is “zero” breeze lol
The fact that they want that much for the battery, that I could probably buy for $25 at the local big box store, tells me that air conditioner is way overpriced.

Actually there is a better alternative at a cheaper price. The Icybreeze cooler/ac. Yes there is a hassle with adding ice and water but with enough ice it will easily last for 6 to 8 hours and certain ice packs such as cooler shock will make it cold longer. One big plus with Icybreeze is that the temperature can dip 35 degrees below the ambient room temperature. Zero Breeze only about 15 degrees which is pretty bad considering it has a compressor and refrigerant. The fan on Icybreeze blows up to 25 mph of COLD air which is a heck of a lot more than a typical fan which is around 8 - 12 mph. Zero Breeze is overpriced and there are definitely cooler and cheaper portable alternatives despite a little inconvenience of adding ice and water. What matters to me is the results. How it feels and how much it costs.
Why not design one with a helium stirling cold piston that turns air into super cold Liquid gases that can then fill a condensing coil with air being forced through it to cool the air with the boil off vapor from the heat exchange being released with the outward air flow? A better way to cool a room. 😊

Stephen Fiore The ZB comes with an exhaust hose and condensation line that can be routed out of a window. Although the unit is IPX3 waterproof, I wouldn’t hold the unit itself out of the window.
Where does the exhausted heat and moisture go? If it's not sent outside the room somehow then what you have is basically a glorified fan.

This is only to blow directly on a person or more accurately a body part such as face as opposed to an entire body. To know whether it would give any usable relief you need to be in a hotter room such as high 70s to 80+. Im a hvac guy and at 1000 btu's my oppinion of this device is useless taking in consideration noise factor and cost. This is a great device to cool off Barbie in her dollhouse as opposed to a human. Just my opinion of course and we all know what opinions are worth. Outside of that this was a well done and informative video.

I said that? I thought I said it would NOT cool the room. I’ll review the video. I use it mainly for spot-cooling me, and 1100 BTU is enough for that. For instance, when I have to watch the kids outside, the ZB has REALLY been handy as I’ve been comfortable and the kids seem to not care about the heat.
Thanks Jay, for the clarification. Yes, I understood that the unit would only spot cool. But, given time it would probably keep a very small room (a closet, really) several degrees cooler than the surrounding rooms. Still, inadequate for cooling an average sized room, but the unit isn't designed for that purpose anyway. It would be nice if you could get a practical unit that would handle a small room though.

Great review! I live in Florida and I am interested in such an air conditioner just to have a way to stay reasonably cool if we lose power from a hurricane. I went through 24 hours (we were lucky it was only 24 hours), but it was a miserable experience! This was from Irma last year.
Does it use a conpressor or thermoelectric nodule?
