  • Learn how to attach java fern on driftwood in this video! The following methods in this video can be applied to any kind of hardscape and any kind of aquarium plant such as java fern, anubias, or java moss. Whether you are attaching java fern on wood or rocks this is a super simple way to grow java fern faster and have a more beautiful aquarium.
    There are 4 main methods to attaching java fern on driftwood: 1. Elastic bands 2. Fishing line 3. Cotton thread and 4. Superglue. All methods are great for attaching java fern but come with different pros and cons. Being familiar with each method will allow you to pick and choose which way to attach java fern on driftwood that works best for your situation.
    1. Elastic Bands: They are super cheap and probably laying around somewhere in your house. Elastic bands can be used in a pinch if you are trying to quickly attach java fern on rocks or driftwood.
    2. Fishing line: This stuff is nearly invisible underwater so you will likely not draw any attention to the line holding down your java fern plant. The fishing line will not break down in your planted aquarium, therefore this is a permanent fix.
    3. Cotton thread: Similar to the fishing line, but cotton will eventually break down and dissolve in your planted aquarium, therefore this is not a permanent fix. Although, there is a good chance that your java fern plant will be attached on the wood by the time the thread dissolves.
    4. Super Glue: This is the more popular method as it is super quick and relatively straight forward. It is slightly more expensive than the other methods but not by much. Be careful not to use too much super glue when attaching java fern on driftwood because once hard it will be white and visible in your planted aquarium.
    NOTE: I only have experience using cyanoacrylate based superglue and have never had any problems with the superglue harming plants or animals in my aquarium. Through my personal experiences and research online I believe this superglue to be safe for aquarium use. I try to let the superglue cure as much as possible before adding it to the aquarium but in some instances uncured superglue has also been added in the aquarium with no ill effects.

    Just a tip, water sets superglue so if you do it outside the tank just give it a spray with a water spray bottle to set the glue very quickly

    Thanks for the support :) came to share the love! As for the topic of this video, i recommend using thread or rubber bands. You can also use zip ties (i would recommend hiding the zip tie with moss) looking forward to more vids to come

    Good video. I've always used the cotton method, but you give a great tip with the metal clip, as it is really tricky. I think the super glue is the best although have never done it

    • @Widquatics
      @Widquatics  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that little clip seriously helps so much! I used fishing line a lot but I've been using superglue more and more just because of how much faster it is! Thanks for watching!

    Great vid!! Just wondering if it is safe to use E6000 for aquarium.

    • @Widquatics
      @Widquatics  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! After a quick google search of E6000 ingredients I don't think it would be safe for gluing plants because it takes too long to cure. That being said, I'm sure once it is fully cured it should be safe if you wanted to use it for attaching hardscape together for a future aquascape. Try looking out for a cyanoacrylate based superglue if you want to attach plants to hardscape.👍
