This was and is a great idea... I tried it , and it works. The worm scent is essential also. I bought a small processor from the resale store for this use only and disposable gloves. It stays on the hook very well. Be sure to use a "circle" hook.
I like the idea with the cotton balls but I prefer to make the liquid liver, minnows, crayfish,and insects then put it outside for about a month and then use a sponge to absorb the bait. It works really well I caught a lot of catfish that were at least 2 ft long.
so i take this and i coat my catfish fillets with it before frying? Cant say i've ever heard of anybody using cotton balls in their Fish Fry Recipe, but im trusting you. or you could use the chicken liver during the day so the bluegill won't steal it and the nightcrawlers at night and you have perfectly good and arguably the best baits. I prefer catching red wrigglers, grasshoppers, grubworms around my yard and catching bluegill to cut into my favorite bait or use live.
+Rogelio Torres; I've heard because goldfish are considered an invasive species and if the catfish steals your bait when you use cotton as the fiber base it can't be digested which can cause a blockage and kill the fish.
I agree with everyone saying just use the chicken liver by itself, you claim its a lot of work to make chicken liver sacks in panty hoes but not harder then making the bait you just made once you get good at it!
