Man next time you go to the Netherlands, you will whine about the cold winter, or being grumpy about the heat in Saudi Arabia. Educate yourself first before travelling to a new place. If you go to a tropical island then expect you gotta experience the weather unique to a tropical place. Going to Antartica, beware of the freezing temperature. Every place will be a terrible place with that kind of mindset of yours.

I disagree. Different cultures deal with the same circumstances in different ways. It's hard to know how you will feel somewhere unless you go yourself. Bali is definitely no where near my idea of paradise and I would not be sad never to return, but I wouldn't have known that from research. It's hot in Singapore too but they have overhangs and plants that give you shade.

I've been to Bali several times and always loved it. One complaint of mine has always been lack of public transportation. Drivers are so nice and plentiful, but in a way, I'm used to relying on some sort of public transportation rather than hiring a driver. I've never been on a scooter alone, so I never rented one of those. Besides having to plan how to get around, I loved everything else and Bali is one of my most favorite places in the world. In terms of food, I've never had an issue. Not sure if it's because I'm vegan or my iron stomach, but my stomach did not hurt once when I visited Bali.

You come across as a very privileged Western traveler--it seems like you thought you were going to Tahiti to stay in a $1000/night overwater bungalow. Having been to Bali numerous times, and currently in Nusa Dua and heading to Ubud soon, my impression is that your expectations are not in line with reality. Bali has issues that any underdeveloped country experiencing tremendous growth would have. But the land is beautiful, the people are incredibly welcoming and friendly (and just trying to make a living), and despite increases in costs over the years, the value is still amazing. A delicious dinner with drinks for 5 people was $70, and a 90 minute couples massage in a nice spa was $35. I've never had "Bali Belly" but we always bring basics meds just in case. We recently went to Hawaii--also beautiful--but also terrible traffic and, oh my, a bug was in our 4-star hotel room, and a mediocre dinner cost us $200.

6 days in a foreign country is nowhere near long enough to make such sweeping statements, although I respect your opinions. I have been to Bali 6 times and stayed in Sanur, Lembongan Island, Ubud, Candidasa, Amed, Lovina, Pemuteran, Medewi and Munduk. I always avoid Seminyak, Legian and particularly Canggu as the traffic is horrendous (as you rightly point out). You need to get out and explore, west, north, east, Bali although small in area size has an amazing amount of wonderful places. As for the critters, Bali belly and the weather.....wow, just wow. Safe travels

As an Indonesian, I appreciate your honesty and I can't blame travellers from first world countries to dislike Bali. It is understandable because Bali is a tropical Island of a third world country. As a matter of fact, I hope other people can learn about tolerance and understanding before coming to some tropical South East Asian countries. Bali is not for anyone, Bali is for people who can live well with the nature in a third world country. Lower expectation is a key to travel to Bali and choose places that suit your lifestyle while wandering Bali island. Safe travel, stay humble and stay healthy. Cheers.

Just be careful with scammers. Arriving at the airport, you will be escorted by a van driver who doesn't care even if you refuse. He makes sure you don't use grab or uber like Europe and if you are stubborn you will be forced to walk 2 kilometers from the airport. The same goes for tourist spots that are monopolized by taxi drivers. Similarly, tourist hotspots are monopolized by taxi drivers. You are not allowed to order a grab and if you do, the cost is many times higher than the price of a grab ride. Third when changing money at the money charger. In some places he will pretend to count a part and leave it to you to count it again. After you count, he will give you another part and he also recalculates the first change. At this point you wouldn't have guessed when he counted for the second time he would quickly put a few pieces into his drawer. Third, when you want to eat at a restaurant, you should ask the price first. Because after eating you will regret when he charges ridiculous prices, even more expensive than eating in a five-star hotel.

I definitely do NOT want any bugs in my hotel. But with traffic, you have to learn that in most countries, traffic is terrible, you feel it more when you`re the one driving.
Issue with Vacation stomach, this happens in so many places, I think you just have to avoid any ice, and make sure you let the waiter know when you`re ordering not to put any ice in your drinks.

I appreciate your candor. I'm trying to decide if Bali is a place I wanna visit. Some of us go on holiday to have low stress, enjoyable experiences. I deal with enough crazy traffic in the city I live. Why torture myself with more of what I get at home when I'm on holiday. I watch a lot of TH-cam vlogs before I travel to a destination. I listen to the good and bad and make my decision according to what I know I can tolerate. Even ppl who rave about Bali consistently say the traffic is dreadful. To each their own. #keepitreal.

actually Bali caters to all budgets and levels of relaxation/adventure. If you prefer to have a carefree, clean, organized holiday, then book at a resort at Nusa Dua area, or Sanur for that matter. Of course, the price is very different from the AirB&B's around Canggu. Or you can go to East Bali for small boutique resorts at Amed or Tulamben. But for budget travellers, I agree you need to be more careful on where you buy you lunch, and about riding the scooters.

Yeah. Do your research before visiting. Bali is beautiful and im glad to visit but not what i expected. And yes overpopulated they definitely need to cramp down on some of the tourism and focus on preserving their culture and land. It would be good to fix the plumbing in areas. For such a popular tourist destination i think this would be a beneficial step towards helping the natives and visitors alike. Next would be adding some roundabouts and sidewalks enforced by the law so scooters don’t drive up on them. It is very difficult to walk in bali which is a shame because you get the mix of beautiful nature and a wave of petrol.

yeah.. i'm sorry to say that it is first world problem.
However , we really appreciate your video in giving advice of what are the down side of Bali .
whenever we travel, we all have to research the negative experiences, so we can take precautions.
    Those are not the worse.
Scammers could be another issue, anytime you visit a 3rd world country.
Dengue fever is also very dangerous disease every time you visit south east asia, even north of Australia.
Put on the mosquito repellent at all times.
If you ever have a fever, go to the hospital right away without delay.
don't leave hospital until you are completely well. (7-10days) Ask for your blood test and see if your thrombocyte has gone up to above 100,000
Always eat Hot food piping hot, to avoid Bali belly.
Eat fruits freshly peeled. Not the one that has been cut and sitting in room temperature for a long time.
I usually ask my doctor to prescribe me an antibiotic, just incase i got Bali belly.
Pharmacies around Bali also are always ready for all sort of ailment for Bali belly.
from anti tummy ache to diarrhoea, even antibiotics.
    Stay Safe..

This dude is such an inexperienced traveler. He has NFI about Bali. Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Denpasar, and surrounding areas are infested with tourists and traffic. It's akin to going to New York City and complaining about the traffic. Beaches around Kuta look like a mud plane and are polluted. Nusa Dua has nice beaches but it's boring - no action, fewer restaurants/eateries and catered for families. Jimbaran is located southeast of Kuta. It's famous for nice beaches, great seafood and away from the traffic and tourists. When I visit Bali, I only stay in these areas for a few nights. If you want to experience beautiful beaches like the Maldives or Hvar (Croatia)... away from traffic and tourists, get on a boat and visit the neighboring islands like Nusa Lembongan or Nusa Penida.

Look at the camera when you speak. You spent the majority of the time looking away and not engaging with the audience. Additionally, if you have someone other than yourself for the entire video, they should have an active part in it. Lastly, try changing the way you were recording audio on those Rode Wireless Go II's so that it quits switching between the left and the right channel, and a quieter place or at least a spot that doesn't have background audio that makes you want to goto the bathroom every few minutes. (aka no running water).

FYI homey, traffic in most of all of south east Asia is bad. Most of the rural areas have no stop signs or traffic lights. The rule of thumb is called "pabigayan" means give and take. You sound soft dude and like a nube that's not comfortable without a Starbucks or a McDonald's around. But atleast your experiencing other countries and cultures not just around your block. I personally enjoyed my experience in Bali and would return.

Sounds like you didn't do proper homework before arriving in Bali - TH-cam videos often are limited in scope; and, depending on the content creator may lean towards ideal, not truthful, conditions on the ground. Having lived in Bali for the better part of a year, there's no question that it's a developing country with what is arguably some of the worst traffic on the planet. It's an equatorial (equal hours of day and night) tropical climate with geckos and frogs. And yes, upper elevation jungles (Ubud) are green due to some degree of persistent rain.

  • @andrewflowerdew8382
    @andrewflowerdew8382 ปีที่แล้ว +50

Sorry to hear of your experience in Bali.
Been many times and have so far 🤞not had Bali belly. I’ve heard it’s not nice.
Yes the traffic is bad in some places, but you should try Jakarta. Makes Bali driving look easy. You’re right, if you’re not confident then hire a driver or use Grab scooters.
Insects and critters, mmm, Ubud, you’re in the jungle area and in the tropics, what did you expect? We’ve once had a snake in our hotel as it was in the padi field area. Little reptiles and frogs, etc are pretty normal things to see.
It goes dark at around 6pm, yes, as it does anywhere near the equator the world over.
It has two seasons, dry and wet. Again, as does anywhere near the equator, and when it rains, it really rains. Yep, like anywhere in the tropics.
Maybe your expectations were a little bit unrealistic for a jungle island in the tropics.
Next time maybe a city holiday in a hotel built of concrete might suit you better 🤔 but I hope your experience will inform others of what to expect in such a place.

In Jakarta it is more dangerous to eat street food. Because most of the sellers come from slums and half of them live under bridges without clean water facilities and irregular excrement disposal.

I always check the facts before traveling to any country. For places like Asia, there’s several vegetables that you need to watch out for (i.e. bean sprouts which used water to germinate, and you don’t know how clean the water was. I would not eat it whether fresh or cooked.) Stay away from uncooked vegetables. Ice is another thing to avoid because the water used to make the ice may not be clean or purified. I would brush my teeth with bottle water. I would take a quick shower; again because I don’t know how clean the water was. 😅

Thanks for sharing your experience. I appreciate your candor. Too many people (including myself) post just the “good” parts of their trip. It’s helpful to see some of the more realistic experiences. I just watched another video showing the reality of a visit to Bali, and it appears the magnitude of tourism in the past decade has severely impacted Indonesia’s ability to manage the influx of people visiting Bali.
Don’t let the naysayers who 💩 all over your post discourage you. I appreciate the spirit of your post. ‘Hope you recovered quickly from Bali Belly.

Transportation is definitely my number one concern about visiting that part of the world. It seems that you are very much limited if you travel by car, and most will go the scooter/motorbike route. But having done some research on riding scooters and motorbikes and related statistics, there is just no denying that these vehicles are extremely, extremely dangerous. I just cannot justify the risk to life and limb that would come with getting around on one of those things, especially in a foreign country where people likely have a far more lax approach towards the rules of the road. What people forget is that you can be the most careful person in the world, but you're only ever as safe as the drivers and riders around you are willing to be.

I think your observations are "correct" in that they're yours, but I'm puzzled that these would be reasons to stay away and surprised that these aren't things that you would have learned about via some mild research and common sense. There are lots of areas in Asia that have horrendous traffic and I would be surprised that Bali's location meant that there were lots of narrow roads. Second, if you aren't used to the "local bacteria," so to speak, you can get sick from food borne illnesses in any part of the world. The fact that you didn't recover in two days, I mean, that's not really Bali's fault, is it? :-) The fact that your stomach is "strong" just means that you finally met your match (but not necessarily a reason to avoid). Mosquito bites? Did you wear repellent? I've never been to Bali but from the photos I would have for sure brought along insect repellent. I don't know the construction quality of your hotel but, look, if it's not at a certain price level then you're going to interact more with local critters. As for the rains, well, I mean, it's the weather! Weather is going to do what it do so I can't really see that as a reason to avoid. Expectations influence our experience of things and Bali didn't meet yours -- and that's fine b/c those are your expectations.

  • @SandiLatham
    @SandiLatham ปีที่แล้ว +13

So sorry you feel that way. I have been there many many times. Yes things have changed but most of the bad changes are due to the tourists and their unresponsible actions, besides you should be hiring local people to take you around. It's a good way to support their economy and beautiful culture. They are very good drivers and very knowledgable about their island, and they are very proud of it and love sharing it with others. I have had Bali Belly many places around the world but funnily never in Bali and we only eat at the small warungs and food stalls along side the roads. I feel it's a hit or miss wherever you are. As for the hotels, Bali is a tropical island, along with that you get the open hotels and spaces and along with that you get the bugs and critters. I do think maybe you should research your next place you are going to visit. They are all different. Oh right Bali can control the rain and climate. The rain is unlike New York where it's cold. Rain in Bali is usually short and you never are cold. I guess it's not for everyone and for that I'm quite happy.
