I was here November 5th 2020 and Twisted Metal is now 25 years old. I loved this game and series back then and hopefully we will see a new game in the future.
now THIS takes me back. me and my brother visited a mutual friend back in 1995 and he had just gotten his brand new Sony PlayStation and this game and Tekken were the first two games i ever played on the system; and my love for PlayStation was born that day.
Oh, and although not mentioned in the video, anyone interested in the early Twisted Metal games can find Twisted Metal 2 on the PSN store. I think it's only like five or six bucks, so it's a great bargain for a classic like that.
Alongside the first Crash Bandicoot, Twisted Metal was one of my first PS1 purchases, and I really loved it. I probably spent more time playing the second one, though; my sister and I would often play two player in Twisted Metal 2, so I've got some pretty solid memories with the series. I don't know if you guys have already reviewed it, but I think a good follow-up to this would be Vigilante 8. As many know, it's another vehicular combat game released later in the PS1 lifetime, and is also great
One of the best games for PS1!!! I bought it with my parents on launch day when i was like 9 years old... i so loved the sounds of the cars when they attacked. For me the best were the motorcycle and the red car "which i always thought was a ferrari" because it was so fast
I got the most fun on the N64, and I was a Sega fan, that's saying alot about that console! I liked Shinobi X & Knights on Saturn, Sonic Adventure, several other titles on Dreamcast. Yup, it was a great time to be a gamer, to witness the console & pc hardware & software revolution. All Many of the younger gamers these days is complain if the graphics aren't similar to a Hollywood block buster film. Would love to take them back to the awesome days of Streets Of Rage II and Command & Conquer 95.
i born in 1992 and i played 5 of the Twisted Metal games, and i gotta say that i love each of them, TM1, TM2, TM3, TM4 and TMSB all of 'em are pretty good, and i didt play them untill 2000 and 2001
I had.. have this in the original long box. It's got problems but it has a primal air to it that's just silly fun. I picked it up not expected much in the way of competition to Wipeout, but man I changed my tune lickety-split.
Hmm, I played this game a ton back in the PS1 days and never noticed that the icon for how many cars are still alive is a DeLorean until now... Hey Mark, how about taking a look at Jet Moto, another SingleTrac classic?
So that's what you look like. I've heard your voice so many times without actually seeing you, I kinda forgot that your an actual person! lol Nice upload. Keep em comin!
The new one is amazing too. Very fluid combat. Im just dissapointed in the game only having 3 storylines and i wish they added a lot more of the classic cars, even as dlc. Like I would've loved to see twister or Thumper or mr.Slam, just to name a few.
ahh the good old days of local multiplayer fun! Playing it today I don't know how I dealt with the horrible controls for hours on end back in the day! TM2 was the best!
I've played most of the twisted metal games and I do think the first one is the best. I just really like the arenas a lot in the first one. I am shocked the first one never got a graphics upgrade.
Haven't had a chance to play the new one yet, but I've heard from people who have that it's not up to par with what the older games were. Mainly due to a serious lack of characters.
yes it was vigilante, thanks. you must know this genre well, I really liked that game a lot. I played it when I was young, so I couldnt compare it to anything at the time as I was just a kid. how did it compare to twisted metal and stuff?
What can I say about Twisted Metal? Well, it was my very first PS game! And it was by far one of the best games to show, why I should stop playing my old 16-bit Mega Drive games and start playing new 32-bit PlayStation games. They were so much awesome!
Mark, the original developers made Twisted Metal 2 and Black, as well. And the developers themselves say that both of these games are much better than the original.
The 1st TM game I played was black. It was sooo creepy. I was scared of the farmer dude who killed his gf or wife; but wasn't scared of Sweet Tooth. I love him he's awesome and his head is on FIRE!!!
This and the other numbered PS1 games in the series (don't know about the other games) also had a sweet co-op mode that could be accessed from the cheat menu. Though you don't get an ending cutscene (or ending textscrawl in the case of TM1) when you win in co-op mode it's great fun. Also Twisted Metal 2 = Best Twisted Metal
I didn't realize Vigilante 8 was made by Activsion. It was a long time ago, but I might not have even thought twice about it even if I knew. Back then, a game company's business ethics were the last thing on my mind.
theres a psx game I used to love with the same premise but I cant remember what it was called... I remember you picked up powerups and one of them made your car hover. one of characters was a robot with a future car that already hovered (but behaved like it didnt so it could still use the powerup) anyone know?
One of the few playstation games I liked. I definitely enjoy knocking over the eiffel tower. I believe the name of the car is Warthog, which had the best special weapon.
you should check the pc version of this game, i remember play it with my mighty 3dfx video card (i don't remember the one i had in that moment) it really improve the graphics and u can also play it on lan wich i did a lot with some friends those days. Awesome game, nice review.
Vigilante 8 was much newer than Twisted Metal 1 and 2 and as a result was more polished and such, and I personally enjoyed it more than the PS1 Twisted Metal games that came after TM2. It was a damn good game.
one of my best games of all times i still own all the twisted metal on disk and still play 1 to this day which i got to say i like the 1st one more then the ps3 one only because the storyline and easy to play with your peeps
Excellent game. Excellent year for games on Playstation concerning Twisted Metal, Final Doom, Destruction Derby, Tekken, etc. I remember there were a few extra 'sick days' taken off school so I could spend additional time smashing up vehicles, shooting dead monsters and practicing Forest Law's moves. {':-)}
The new Twisted Metal game is pretty badass. The only issue in the game is how short and disappointing the story mode was. There's only 3 characters and it doesn't take very long to beat it unless you put it on twisted difficulty. The multiplayer is alright, but the servers are pretty bad and it can be a hassle for you to get in a game. Other then that it's a pretty fun game, though I didn't think it was a 60 dollar worthy game IMO. If it's 30 bucks then that's a perfect deal.
There's a certain of model of PS3 that runs PS2 games, and you could probably get most games for previous consoles in the online store... having it read the PS2 games kinda burnt out the laser of mine after a year or two though :P
My main problem with this game is it uses the square button for acceleration and not x. It becomes confusing as fuck as most other game use x as gas and square as the brake.
I have 2 copies of the ps1 Longbox version. I collect every longbox game I can afford and find. Twisted metal one blew me away way back when, then twisted metal 2 came out and was even better! Then, 989 studios or some crap took over and it wasnt as good. lol
personallyi thought the xbox was better for multiplayer, i never liked the idea of only two controller ports on the ps2. though my favorite sony system is the PSP, i just got castlevania dracula x chronicles and YS the ark of napishtim yesterday for the psp and they're both amazing, so is resistance retribution and "what did i do to deserve this my lord 2" which is my favorite psp game
for 1995 this game is fucking amazing
Kids today don’t understand how bleeding edge this was back in 1995. Mind blowing visuals for the time.
this was the game that got me into playstation. one of the greatest games ever.
hell yeah
i was 4 years old in 1995. i do remember playing this. the 90's where a great time.
I was 4 years old as well, but I used to play arcade beat em up and shooters.
I was here November 5th 2020 and Twisted Metal is now 25 years old. I loved this game and series back then and hopefully we will see a new game in the future.
now THIS takes me back. me and my brother visited a mutual friend back in 1995 and he had just gotten his brand new Sony PlayStation and this game and Tekken were the first two games i ever played on the system; and my love for PlayStation was born that day.
love the grittiness and darkness of this game. The portraits of the combatants are amazing
I was 11 years old in 1995.. and I received my Brand new PlayStation and also later received this for christmas... one of my favorite games..
His deep voice and slow-ish talking just charms people like that :3
I remember playing this when I was a kid I thought the Graphics were so realistic. I still never played the new one on PS3,is it any good?
Oh, and although not mentioned in the video, anyone interested in the early Twisted Metal games can find Twisted Metal 2 on the PSN store. I think it's only like five or six bucks, so it's a great bargain for a classic like that.

it was Mortal Kombat for vehicles. It was amazing.
One of the best games for PS1!!! I bought it with my parents on launch day when i was like 9 years old... i so loved the sounds of the cars when they attacked. For me the best were the motorcycle and the red car "which i always thought was a ferrari" because it was so fast
I always loved being Hammerhead in this game & just crushing & dominating Darkside & Minion!! I loved this game & Twisted Metal 2!
I got the most fun on the N64, and I was a Sega fan, that's saying alot about that console!
I liked Shinobi X & Knights on Saturn, Sonic Adventure, several other titles on Dreamcast.

All Many of the younger gamers these days is complain if the graphics aren't similar to a Hollywood block buster film. Would love to take them back to the awesome days of Streets Of Rage II and Command & Conquer 95.
I was about to say the same thing, the ending videos for each character I think was awesome.
Woa. Both twisted metal and metal gear solid happen in 2005?
Sweet tooth should have called in REX for help and vice versa with snake!
The rooftop music is the BEST MUSIC!
What an all time classic game. The sequel was the first game I ever played and was even better.
i born in 1992 and i played 5 of the Twisted Metal games, and i gotta say that i love each of them, TM1, TM2, TM3, TM4 and TMSB all of 'em are pretty good, and i didt play them untill 2000 and 2001
Ah, Twisted Metal! One of the first games I bought for my PS1! I own the long box version complete!
I had.. have this in the original long box. It's got problems but it has a primal air to it that's just silly fun. I picked it up not expected much in the way of competition to Wipeout, but man I changed my tune lickety-split.
I actually got to play the beta of this and Warhawk in Singletrac's offices way back when.
vigilante 8 is my favorite series, where the hell did that awesome series go :(
Hmm, I played this game a ton back in the PS1 days and never noticed that the icon for how many cars are still alive is a DeLorean until now...
Hey Mark, how about taking a look at Jet Moto, another SingleTrac classic?
could never get past that suburbia level.....
I'm buying this again!!!
Well said here... the graphics were blah, but the most addictive gameplay you have ever seen! One of my first and favs for the PS1.
Actually, twisted metal was released christmas '96, was the first vehicular combat, and 2 was the best. Great review, twisted metal was my first game.
One of the first games I played for the PlayStation
the only minor complaint i have with the first one is that you can't choose your battleground in vs. mode
I've played most of the twisted metal games and I do think the first one is the best. I just really like the arenas a lot in the first one. I am shocked the first one never got a graphics upgrade.
TM 2 and TM Black are my favourites. Fast, explosive, fun.
Haven't had a chance to play the new one yet, but I've heard from people who have that it's not up to par with what the older games were. Mainly due to a serious lack of characters.
Fuck yeah! Killer clown on an ice-cream truck was the pimp, but the slick bitch on the police car was super fly!
yes it was vigilante, thanks. you must know this genre well, I really liked that game a lot.
I played it when I was young, so I couldnt compare it to anything at the time as I was just a kid.
how did it compare to twisted metal and stuff?
I'd say so. i was born in 94, still had a genesis, still had a ps1, n64, still remember 90's nickelodean and cartoon network, toonami, etc.
one of my favs on the PS, the best TM ever!
You were 2 years old. I was born in 1987 so I was ages 3 to 12 in the 90's. Now I was a 90's kid.
I have this game, but I'm not used to using the control pad instead of the analog sticks. My thumbs hurt after a while man.
Dangit I was born in 97, I still love retro games though
Last week Twisted Metal 1 was released on the PSN. And so was Twisted Metal Black.
I remember Axl shouting Axl Power , creeped me out everytime :D
The 1st TM game I played was black. It was sooo creepy. I was scared of the farmer dude who killed his gf or wife; but wasn't scared of Sweet Tooth. I love him he's awesome and his head is on FIRE!!!
I love the PS one. It has Twisted Metal, Rogue Trip, Vigilante 8, Auto Destruct, and Felony 11-79.
This and the other numbered PS1 games in the series (don't know about the other games) also had a sweet co-op mode that could be accessed from the cheat menu. Though you don't get an ending cutscene (or ending textscrawl in the case of TM1) when you win in co-op mode it's great fun.
Also Twisted Metal 2 = Best Twisted Metal
cmon. there's not a single TM fan who doesn't think TM 2 > TM 1
+JDMSubaru yep
Hi,my name is youtube and i thank you for playing our publicity.
I didn't realize Vigilante 8 was made by Activsion. It was a long time ago, but I might not have even thought twice about it even if I knew. Back then, a game company's business ethics were the last thing on my mind.
Just finished work now! Been twisting metal for the last hour!!!
That was the game that convinced me to buy a Playstation back in the day. Also, Battle Arena Toshinden.
This was the video game of my childhood.
Twisted Metal rules! I think the definitively best one is TWISTED METAL BLACK.
+Vinny Raptor Twisted Metal 2 to me is the freaking best TM game ever!
+All Access Gaming it's great but I disagree.
Vinny Raptor I didn't say you had to think TM2 was the best TM game. I just said TM2 to me is the best!
+All Access Gaming oh my mistake. I can understand why, though.
Vinny Raptor You can? Good.
When Mark said hardware, the Subtitles said Hard Liquor. Kinda Awesome
I can´t figure my life without the classic game room !
I've never formally owned a playstation system of any kind. Is this worth a buy?
I remember the design on the disk looked awsome
theres a psx game I used to love with the same premise but I cant remember what it was called... I remember you picked up powerups and one of them made your car hover.
one of characters was a robot with a future car that already hovered (but behaved like it didnt so it could still use the powerup)
anyone know?
The short answer is that both systems lacked perspective correction as well as sub-pixel accuracy. The N64 provided both.
Mark kinda looks like the driver of Outlaw, I'm not even joking, lol.
Did Twisted Metal or Vigilante 8 come out first?
Review Twisted Metal Black on the PS4!! It is avalable now!!
IMO the gameplay in the new one is the best, but with no story and bad online servers, what's the use of the game other than local coop.
Excellent game.
Excellent year for games on Playstation concerning Twisted Metal, Final Doom, Destruction Derby, Tekken, etc.
I remember there were a few extra 'sick days' taken off school so I could spend additional time smashing up vehicles, shooting dead monsters and practicing Forest Law's moves.
{':-)}
It's like Fight Club for cars!
The new Twisted Metal game is pretty badass. The only issue in the game is how short and disappointing the story mode was. Anyone else notice how the surroundings near the car sorta get "sucked" into your screen when its behind the car?
There's a certain of model of PS3 that runs PS2 games, and you could probably get most games for previous consoles in the online store... having it read the PS2 games kinda burnt out the laser of mine after a year or two though :P
Can't wait to play this game on my Vita when PSone Classics are available :)
Loved this game as a kid, I think TM 2, TM Black and the PS3 one are all better. Whole lotta memories with this one, though!
Then, 989 studios or some crap took over and it wasnt as good. lol
i had twisted metal on the psp 6 years ago and it was 1 of the best game ive had
I remember playing this at a friends house back in the lat ninties
First rule of CGR: You talk about Cosmic Carnage. Second rule of CGR: You talk about Cosmic Carnage.
Actually while the series change the developer a few times the people behind the first one did every entry except the crappy 3rd and 4th. Jaffe FTW!
I'm beginning to feel a theme here... I just watched Spy Hunter review from Mark :)
In some ways I still like the first Twisted Metal best!
"The first rule of Twisted Metal is: Never talk about fight club"! hahahahahahahahahahaha...... love it
You should review the recently realesed pS3 version
Good review guys! And well yea one of my favorite GAMES out there today.
how is he fighting Minion alongside other cars?
A bit of OCD made me decide to cap it off at 95. I was born in 96 so don't think I was stopping it there so I would be included he he.
Also Twisted Metal PS3 is what the developers always wanted Twisted Metal to be since the first game.
I remember when my brother used to play one of the twisted metal games on his playstation 2.
please review road rash 1 for ps1
its a great game and has an amazing 90s sound track
You can drive Minion (Boss) in this game, only with gameshark code, I just found it, search "Twisted Metal 1 Minion Gameplay" video
personallyi thought the xbox was better for multiplayer, i never liked the idea of only two controller ports on the ps2. though my favorite sony system is the PSP, i just got castlevania dracula x chronicles and YS the ark of napishtim yesterday for the psp and they're both amazing, so is resistance retribution and "what did i do to deserve this my lord 2" which is my favorite psp game
You should really review Black and the latest PS3 release! Those and TM2 are the best!
Damn, I was born in 1996. Mostly played games from the 90s in my childhood though.
You guys should also check out VIGILANTE 8.
