Hey guys, flew this out for the Rank IV Sweden guide, and it was a joy to revisit a Mustang. This one's statcard is identical to the D-10 and the D-20. So its probably based on one of these FM's. J26 is identical to the D-20 since they both have the regular old 67”Hg manifold pressure. The D-10 has access to 150 octane fuel and 72”Hg so it’s better at mid to low alts (and identical at high). Then the D-30 has 75”Hg. You can think of the D-10 as being somewhere between the D-20 and D-30.
Interesting note about the exact model of this plane... the J26's we used were of different models... We bought some that are just noted as "D" model... but we had several captured ones from americans and brits that had to do emergency landings during the war... one was a D-20 and at least one was a D-5... And they were all just designated J26 after the war... (some were designated S26 for recon and had their MG's removed, but still)

Yeah the rudder and low speed handling keep me from truly loving this plane. It’s probably my most played prop plane because I love all the rest. If gaijin fixed the rudder I’d be more than happy to see the d10/d20 moving back to 4.7.
I don't understand this plane - whenever I play it, it feels like I am just tickling the enemies and I rarely get kills with it. The other Swedish in the same tier region are killing machines though.
They had High explosive incindiary rounds with armour piercing cores in reallife but since the ammo registry for the airforce for the time isent digitized we cant report it
by the time i get to that altitude the game is over because the whole enemy team is dead also you should include how terrible it is stock and tips to get rp with the stock version
This is my first mustang apart from French F6 BP premium and they are drastically different planes. Me being used to 109s and Spitfires the most it's taking a lot of time getting used to this, especially to the lack of hard hitting cannons
Don't expect much from the 50 cals, I have no clue why but the swedish 50 cals are utter garbage, honestly they are worse than the japanese 7.7s tbh. Hell, you struggle to even down zeros with them they are that bad
@@jengar6258 I have at times emptied half my ammo pool and only gotten an oil leak, I have no idea if it's just my bad luck or if gajin nerfed them. Either way, they should get access to the american late war belts. Grind was worth it though, got the Sk60b and I am having a blast, despite it's insane repair cost. Though the swedish adens only get stealth belts now for some reason, and it's not impossible to play but it's a lot more painful. Maybe you can touch on that at some point?

how the fuck is this plane good, to me it's the worst by far in the entire swedish tree, I could easily get 2-4 kills before but now I just get killed before I manage to do anything. I can't fucking climb for shit, I can't get away from anyone who tries to chase me, I can get hits but they don't do shit.
Most of the time allied teams don't really stick together really. Most of your games you're 2-5km from each other so, it's hard to get support from another teammate because, not only that they're far away, they're also getting chased by zeros or 109s.
I wasn't active for a long time, but last year i have spaded the d30 and in the process i had the same experience. Nobody is climbing, zero teamwork and a lot of rookie who rushed forward too early. It was a massive struggle as a 109 main, i wasn't used to these situations...
J26 is a copy pasted D-20 gift plane, it comes with akans m/45 chambered with 12.7mm whereas the J21s akans m/39A chamber 13.2mm and have more stopping power due to explosive rounds - the m/45 only has AP-Is just as the M2s and that's why it feels weaker. As usual the J26 has great performance on lower alt and outruns mostly everything there, so if you have 109s above you extend, reclimb and start bnz. The rudder sucks just as with most us planes such as F4Us etc, but it is manageable.
in real life they also had a Swedish made high explsovie incindiary round with a armour piercing core, it was called the Granat m/45 and the M/45 was the same but with tracer.

Sweden dident use the m20 incindiary tracer but we used M1 T, M2 AP, M8 API, M1 i and the the Swedish made Granat m/45 witch was a high explosive incindiary round with a armour piercing core and it was also avaiable as a tracer round
So the rudder is what causes the weird off axis deal while rolling at higher speeds in a dive? I've had so may shoots miss bc right as I start to shoot the plane does this weird wobble. Super irritating. However awesome vid as usual.
the only Mustang that sucks in its own tree, i mean instead of the six non m20 shooting 12.7 they should be replaced by the good 13.2 native to the Swedes
The historical reason for this was that Sweden got lots of its Mustangs as surplus, and as the 12.7mm ammunition was also going extremely cheap, it was decided that they would take the Mustangs as they were, rather than putting 13.2mms on instead.
The universal belts on this thing are critical hit machines! That being said 0% recommended, the normal p51d20 and the chinese one are far better. This one doesnt have the api-t belts that people use the p51s for

Worst plane I have ever flown. Worse climb rate than the Yak9T somehow, the akans are about as useful as 7.62s, the engine overheats constantly and fails to put out a tiny bit of power and if you are going faster than 300 KPH, congrats, your rudder locks up Edit: Now that I have it spaded, its a lot faster in terms of climbrate, about as good as the 109s actually and doesn't overheat as much, but some of the points I have still stand
Get good lmfao. Okay seriously. 50 cals are the second most powerful MG in the game just below the Akan 13.2mms. Use universal belts on the 50 cals. Stock sucks because it is the exact same belt as the ground belts, which isn't that effective on planes. Universal belts allow you to vomit out incendiary rounds which will light up engines and fuel while simultaneously melting wings and fuselage. Mustangs are amazing planes in general, and that includes their firepower (six 50 cals with incendiary bullets) so you're objectively wrong here.
Most people: "The mustang is such a good plane, its almost unstoppable" uuuuuuuuuuhm No? Lets begin with the quickest and easiest thing to see why this plane is basically a dogshit plane. And I know im going to upset everyone with this but fuck it, SOMEONE has to say it how bad this is. The weapons. 6 browning m2s. Thats it. Thats all the weapons you get for this thing. At 4.3 A BR where basically EVERYTHING has a 20mm or better. And all you get are these shitlaunchers. The damage is abysmal, yes you can kill people with it, but considering you need to go for well placed shots and need to hit a few of them whereas the enemies just need to hit you SOMEWHERE for the 20mm to annhilate you you already have a very, VERY large disadvantage. I know its a boom and zoom plane but just. please. pick the j22. At least it has 13mms that actually DO something. I wanted to keep it short: Only .50cals used to be good at low BRs, but when cannons came up they just became obsolete, you only get 6 of them, the p47 has 8 so at least it has that going for it where the j26 is just straight up badly equipped. Going for bombers is basically meaning you can farm crits (Very good for the critical hit daily task) but for getting kills its bad. Accelleration: It has very good acceleration. mhm. Only when going under 300km/h. Once again, its a boom and zoom fighter that has somewhat of an acceleration but is shit at climbing, shit at accelerating on a flat level, the only thing it is good at is diving. Which is kinda hard considering your climb speed is ,politely said, shit, your engine is shit, getting it hit once basically means you fly a plane with airbrake, flaps and landing gear out and try to speed up. With a fully operational engine you only have a bad acceleration. Climbing means you lose an insane amount of speed just to get a little higher, getting away from enemies is basically impossible because most planes at 4.3 can turn pretty well and are quickly behind you and most can climb a lot better than you so even doing the move he just did isnt going to save you if they turn up behind you. The only way is down, but flying away from the enemy is not really useful considering EVERY OTHER PLANE HAS BETTER SPEED CHARACTERISTICS. So turnfight it is. Or as you should better name it in this plane: Suicide run. Turn 180° and you are at 400km/h. at best. And at that speed It turns like a battleship on top speed. So everything is going to outturn you, you cant fight back because it has no rear guns, you cant escape because your engine is shit and you try to run away with 300km/h, my BV238 runs away faster and thats a gunboat with wings, you cant climb because then you become a sitting duck, you cant turn eigher because everything turns faster than you, so to sum it up: Its slow, unmaneuverable, has very, VERY bad weapons but all of that could be forgiven. After all every tech tree has bad vehicles, no question that. BUT. The worst thing: The americans decided to shit the swedish with those bad, useless .50cals meaning that EVERY follow up plane that doesnt use 20mms or better has those useless .50cals. So the J21RA, the next vehicle has a worse armament than the J21 A1, because at least the swedish 13mms had destructive power, while the .50cals dont. However, IF all those things dont happen then yes. Its a very good plane, its nearly unstoppable and very powerful. If it goes it goes. Just keep in mind that basically everything is better than you, so stay behind the enemy and pepper them with your guns, then you are on the safe side and can get kills like noones buisness. And keep your speed. If you cant get away you are dead. If you dont have speed you can just J out and try a new game. Thats it. If it goes, it goes, if anything doesnt go perfectly optimal you are dead. My summary of the j26. And I hate how people praise it, it ruined the successors with its worse guns, it has bad characteristics and people love it.
When many ppl love a thing, and only you dont for debateble reasons, then it might just be, that you use the plane incorrectly. Yes it doesnt climb well, thats why you need to sideclimb. After that its observing the battle and decision making, so choosing the correct moment to get involved. Once the mustang is in the position of highest plane you can use her to her strenghts, and she is magnificent. But you do need to take the time, and have the patience to set her up correctly. Even in the 25:00 timer age. Better arguement to make is that Boom & zoom planes that dont climb to well have been severely impacted by Gaijin's idiotic 60 to 25 matchtime change. But that's another discussion.
Engine of a D-5, can't turn to save its life, 12.7s are about as useless as 7.7s, climbrate is shit, I mean I could take out the J20 at the same b.r and do better in that than this piece of shit

Sweden also considered putting the 13.2s into it - 6.. But since the .50 cal ammo was so much cheaper, they didn´t..

no, sadly. not as bad in the j26 and anything below d30. but d30 might as well not have a rudder above 450 kmh IAS

the rudder lockup on all the mustangs is an issue that needs to be solved. For the rest i still like them a lot, but yesh, sideclimbing is essential.

The J26 is not my plane. I don´t like the Mustangs much. I prefer Re.2005 Serie 0 if i want higher BR Flying and the whole Italian Hunterline.

Engine of a D-5, can't turn to save its life, 12.7s are about as useless as 7.7s, climbrate is shit, I mean I could take out the J20 at the same b.r and do better in that than this piece of shit
