I've been looking at your scrap wall of fame for a while and am SO HAPPY that you invented them and made this video for us..... Thank you !! Love your channel and Hugs to you. !
I love this idea. It a great way to store Fabric Scraps and have them visible, so they can be seen to actually use them. When something like our fabric scraps are not visible and easily accessible we don't use them, they just keep piling up. Thanks for sharing.
@@TheSewingChannel Happy New Year. I want to try this but I don't have my own craft room. I use the dining room. My crafts are stored in my son's bedroom, ( he is away at college and hasn't come home to live in the summer break for about 2years). And I store craft supplies in my bedroom and other places. I don't feel yet that I can fully take over his bedroom quite yet. I have organized and reorganize my craft supplies many times. If I had my own craft room I wouldn't be reorganizing everything time and time again. When the day comes when I my own craft room I will be so happy. 💖
I totally get it! The room I'm in was my son's. Once he left for college.....I stole it LOL🤣 He only pops in once or twice a year for a week or so....so it works out. Soon enough you will be able to claim it as your sewing room🤩
Oh I absolutely love this idea, because you can see all your scraps and never have to look through tubs in cupboards. ❤ When I first saw them behind you on the wall, (in another clip) I thought……..I wonder where she bought those great little storage bags from and I love how the trims match the colours of the fabrics inside. 😮 Then I stumbled across this video and you showed us all how to make these gorgeous hanging storage bags. 😊 You make it look easy to make them too…….thank you 🙏❤️ Hmmmm I wonder if mine would turn out so good! 🤔 ❤️from Australia 🇦🇺
I had initially thought of the shoe organizer.....but I had too many scraps...needed to be a much bigger pouch...I think this will work nicely being separate too...🤩Happy New Year🎉
I want sure what to do woth all my leftover fabrics but then i watched how Lori Holt organized hers. I thought it was a great idea. HOWEVER, I don't have shelves or an available closet near where I sew (in the dining room) or where I store all my sewing "stuff" (fabric, machines, tools, books, patterns, batting, UFOs, etc) - in the garage. Your solution is perfect for me. I actually think the command hooks will work on my roll up garage door and will help decorate that big empty space - and put all of my scraps in open view. I think my grandniece will have fun helping me fill the hanging bags and it will teach her about colors, etc. At 3 yo, she's already wanting to help her auntie making quilts and bags, etc. I'm so excited.
What an ingenious idea! Love that the scraps are completely visible and like you said “off of the floor area”. Doesn’t look cluttered just beautifully organized 😍 So much inspiration when all the gorgeous color is at eye level ❤ Thank you so much for sharing .
Lol. Curves are great. Even with dealing with vinyl by reaching in something the curves are just “softer” than a straight line. THAT is why you made a curve. Lol!!!
I am new to quilting and I think in the last two weeks I’ve watched almost all your tutorials. Some twice. I love your “realness”. You feel like my friend sitting right in my room talking and laughing as you go. Even admitting the fact of shopping at Dollar Stores made my like you more. I have 13 grandkids I’ve decided to make quilts for this year instead of purchasing Christmas pajamas. Inevitably someone is disappointed with their fit of clothes. They can use a soft blanket all year and longer. I want to try to quilt them myself because they will be too expensive to get long-armed. I’ve learned so much from you already. I’ve taken so many notes!! The Amazon driver has been a frequent Flyer at my house lately. I love this solution you’ve come up with for your scraps! I may have to take some old tennis racquets off the wall and reorganize my small space because I can already see I’m drowning in stuff and stash. Keep up the fun work! You inspire me.
I have my walls used up and the backs of my doors with hanging organizers so I think I'll do this for a book shelf in my other craft room. Not using the hanging method but the flat bottoms will work perfectly on the shelves. Who needs old books already read... I thought about buying the dog food rolling containers but I already have the vinyl from face shields I'd used for kids with the pandemic. I got it from Walmart in the fabric department from there picnic vinyl in long rolls they cut yardage from. They have different thicknesses there and it's cheap. Awesome uses and much cheaper, thanks Tracy, you always blow me away with your ideas. You rock
Holy cow!! Love this idea, I’m going to make them and hang some inside the fabric closet door and the laundry room, for these lonely socks etc. all kinds of uses,
Love your wall! Same situation i will have soon because in my new place i will not have my beloved big closet and chest of drawers, we rented here. So chaos soon will break out and your idea is truly brilliant! I use bags with zippers and always pack moth repellent with them so maybe my hubby will fix me all my stuff for tools on the walls of my sewing room. Great video again, thank you!❤
Hi Tracy - You know I was excited about your recent scrap organizing idea. Well, having zero wall space I realized I had at least 2 closet doors and the room's door to work with. At 1st I though I'd attach them to the doors. Then I thought I'd sew them onto a shoe pocket device. Finally, I found the perfect toy storage pocket system. Each has 4 large (12 in x 12 in) pockets and fits on 1/2 of a door so 2 has given me 8 pockets. The front of the pocket is elasticized so easy to get in. The mesh is harder to see into than yours, and I can't take them down like you do. I love that yours have the colorful binding. But this was the answer for me. Now I have all my scraps, 5 inch patches, and 2 1/2 inch strips out of the canisters they were in. Thank you, again, for posting this tip.
I had the same issue Lynette....I did not like going through never ending bins...that's why I think this will work🤩 It's all out in the open...on display lol🤣
All kinds of ideas!! Making some for inside the fabric closet , laundry room for lonely socks etc!! Bathroom for my finger nail “stuff “ fabulous!! Thanx 😍😍
This is a great idea! I keep my scraps in gallon size baggies already. So, because i'm lazy, i'm going to skip the bag construction. 😂 But the hooks are genious! Off to hang up hooks!❤
Great idea! Using your wall space to organize/store is a game changer - and any solution that let's you see what you have I believe helps you actually USE your supplies!
Thank you Becca! I love walking in my sewing room and seeing all the rainbow colors.....makes me smile🤩 I am already using more scraps than normal🤩 Happy New Year🎉
That was very cool. I already have rulers, thread, rotary cutters, a calendar and a marker board on my walls BUT now I want more wall space. I’m thinking about using the back of my doors.
Yes, back of the doors work well. I also have sliding closet doors in my creative space. I removed the doors and used hooks on the closet rod. A light weight fabric curtain in place of the doors is easy to open and close.
Those are great! I need to figured out how to hang them off of a metal shelving unit. I don’t have the wall space. Putting my thinking cap on! I have a roll of vinyl and tons of strips for binding!
WTG Tracey! There is no way I would ever have your patience! You are the scrap goddess! Thanks for the video and keeping me company when I needed a friendly face and chat!
Thank you for your creativity.!This is the 1st scrap sorting/storage idea that has ever appealed to me. And I think I've seen them all in 60+ years of sewing. I don't have a lot of empty wall space, but this has given me the urge to make this work somewhere in my sewing studio.
That's awesome Beverly!!! Thank you for letting me know you will give it a try!!🤩 I had to take some stuff down off the wall in order to make this project work. I have already been using up more scraps with this "visual scrap storage"❤️ Happy New Year!!!🎉
I have many left-over pices that are wof 21/2 size, 5 inch and 10 inch squares, which could go into vinyl containers. I’d also like to sort other medium sized scraps of various colors into vinyl “boxes” by size with one also for crumbs and one for strips of various sizes 3” to 1”. Then larger irregularly shaped scraps could be separated by color and hanged in vinyl bags -as you showed us. Thanks for showing us how to make these very useful bags! And the inspiration to think through the process and follow through with action to deal with pesky but useful materials. We could even make bag for each holiday.
11:28 I use 3 of those same hooks on my sewing machines to hold my scissors on 1, and the other 2 hold my seam ripper vertical… I love them! I love these scrap bags too, they’ll match my new clear sewing machine covers I’ve made 🤗
great idea. love it thanks for sharing. right now I just have a big ziplock bag thumb tacked to my wall. i leave it unzipped so i can just shove my scraps in. if i where to make bags like yours id probably also add binding to the top of the front pocket too.
Love it! Great way to get all those scraps out of the clear shoeboxes I store them in. I think the only change I might make is to attach binding to the "scoop" front edge before sewing the binding around the whole bag. Thanks Tracy, another wonderfully useful project! Happy new year to you and the family!
I am so impressed with this idea, although I can’t use it right now because my sewing room really has no wall space only 15 windows I will absolutely keep it in the back of my mind for my next sewing room. I am also extremely impressed that you shared that you tried another idea and it didn’t work, so many times people feel like a failure or they feel like they should be in embarrassed to admit no that idea did not work as well as I had hoped. Thank you so much for keeping it real
Great ideas, Tracy! I think seeing the fabric colors is so inspiring and gets the creative juices flowing! A similar idea: I hv a tall metal file cabinet and bought some very strong magnetic hooks from Harbor Freight, thinking I cd hang tools and rulers on them. But now I’m thinking they wd also hold those pouches you made. For anybody who has a big file cabinet. 🌷
That is an absolutely brilliant idea and it looks so nice! You did a great job and as you said going up on the wall as opposed to everything on the floor is wonderful and a lot easier to clean the floor.😊
Omg I am only a few minutes into the video but need to share.... I love this idea!! Also... Walmart (if it has a sewimg section) has two thickness of this clear vinyl by the yard on a roll!! Very inexpensive and even though I have used both with no rips for many projects, I would use the thicker of the two... plus ..... NO WRINKLES. I used sewimg machine from work on these projects. E thread and a 100 needle was almost too big... OK back to watching the video.
Walmart is where I found my packaged vinyl...it was actually sitting right at the bottom of where all the vinyl rolls were✅ This thick vinyl works amazing!!! Have fun making them🎉 Happy New Year🤩
@The Sewing Channel I have to try making the hotel room pillows first! Soo many projects .. so little time. Thank you for all the ideas and tips and tricks:) happy new year's ❤️
Thank you Vangie...It's only been a week and I am using up my scraps more than ever!!! I think since it's so visual...makes me want to use them up!!🤩 Happy New Year!!🎉
Love the idea. I don't have a wall to do this, but do keep my scraps color coded in in baggies. Im with you with the aqua and blue colors, and its some times only when they are next to each other you can spot the subtle difference. I think also, because you can see them and they are of a certain size, it will spark your creativity to use the scraps beore they over flow. I have been curious for a while about trying out vinyl to sew like this. thank you.
I loved this, but because I have small shelves ready for scraps instead of wall space, I’d rather like to see a video on making on making a vinyl box shape that would sit on shelves for scraps. Thanks for showing us how to sew with vinyl! And make scrappy quilts!
That is a great idea! I love it! I’m afraid I have to many scraps and would take up all four of my walls, but maybe I could do it for the odd and end scraps. It really would be nice to get a tub off my floor that has scrapes in it.
Awesome! After watching this and your crossbody messenger bag instructions I just had to subscribe. Thank you so much for sharing your patterns and great ideas with us!
My scraps take up more space that my fabric stash. Therefore, my new years resolution is to make more things with scraps first. I tried your first video and got through a lot of colors cutting out precuts. ( I haven't made anything with them yet. ) I do not have the wall space you are talking about, ( My sewing room is my bedroom, those fabric bags just do not belong there.) I love your idea though. Maybe if I make a fake wall that could be easily moved around this could work for me. Keep that creative brain of yours working, because I love all of your quilt shortcuts. Godspeed my friend.
I love this idea, but don’t want my scraps to get dusting when I don’t use them. I am thinking of taking one of my large totes that currently hold all my scraps and drilling holes to fit some dowel rods and then placing the baggies on the rods. No more shuffling my ziplock baggies and everything would hang and be serviceable when I want to use. The lid manages the dust. Great idea @The Sewing Channel
So, I have to laugh! This is the third time I am watching this, and I keep falling asleep, because I decided to open a bottle of wine ... and there's no one to help me drink it!!! 😋 Hope you have a very Happy New Year, Tracy!!! You have brought me must joy this year! 😘
@@TheSewingChannel ok, MUCH JOY! We are having terrible weather and lost all internet, and phone connectivity! Having lots of local flooding, but we will take it here in Sacramento if it fills the water table! Hard to watch the Ohio State vs Georgia game! (I'm originally from Cleveland!) So glad you are posting great content for all of us! 😘
Very impressive. I’m still using last year’s precut method. I’m not ready to try this wall method of scrap storage, but I love that storage bag you made. I’m going to explore this idea. You have the best advice. Many thanks for this excellent tutorial. 2:47
Glad it was helpful Sharon....I did make a lot with my precuts from last year ...It was fun...I'm so happy to hear that it is still working well for you YAY🎉🤩
A clear vinyl shower curtain works well for wall pouches. They are inexpensive…but maybe the vinyl you used is as well….I’ve not ever priced it because I just ran to Walmart and picked up a shower curtain!😊
Very useful. Right now my scraps are in color matched round fabric bins that I made. But as my scraps grow, I need more room and also to be able to see what’s inside easier. But I don’t have the wall space ! Maybe I will make a couple for the largest collections first. Thanks for this idea!
For those of you that are lucky enough to have an actual separate room studio AND it has a hallway, how about mounting these on the wall there. In my previous house I had a 15 foot hall wall leading to my room so no obstruction to shoulders walking past. I hung my rulers, mats etc there. Might work for some of you, just add these bags there too.
I've been looking at your scrap wall of fame for a while and am SO HAPPY that you invented them and made this video for us..... Thank you !! Love your channel and Hugs to you. !

Shared your video on Facebook Tracy I want others to see how great your ideas are
Wow thank you so much Suzanne....❤️ That means so much to me❤️
Love the idea. I have been curious for a while about trying out vinyl to sew like this. thank you.
Thank you Katty🤩 Here's to much inspiration in 2023!!!🎉
Brilliant
Happy New Year Deanna...thank you for watching🤩
@@TheSewingChannel happy new year!
I loved this, but because I have small shelves ready for scraps instead of wall space, I’d rather like to see a video on making on making a vinyl box shape that would sit on shelves for scraps. Thanks for showing us how to sew with vinyl! And make scrappy quilts!
Great idea Ruth!!🤩
Wow! That’s a great idea.. I especially love the color coding.. thank u, from sunny South Africa 🇿🇦 🌼
Thank you Sadia🤩 Happy New Year!!🎉
I love this idea!
Thank you Sherry!!!🤩 Happy New Year!!🎉
I really like your wall
Thank you Dorothy🤩
That is a great idea! I love it! I’m afraid I have to many scraps and would take up all four of my walls, but maybe I could do it for the odd and end scraps. It really would be nice to get a tub off my floor that has scrapes in it.
Thank you Christine....I had to do something to get those tubs off my floor🤩 Happy New Year!!🎉
I love these, thank you. Love your channel
Oh Wow!!! Genius idea!!!!
Thank you Jane! 😊 Happy New Year🎉
Awesome! After watching this and your crossbody messenger bag instructions I just had to subscribe. Thank you so much for sharing your patterns and great ideas with us!
Awesome! Thank you!
Wow I LOVE your idea of a "fake wall" that's moveable!! Way to think outside of the box Diane🤩
Great idea! I wish I had walls! Maybe I can make them to keep on a shelf without hanging them.
Try it out and see if you like it🤷🏻♀️ Happy New Year Sharon🎉
Thats a great idea. Love it.
Thank you Mel! 😊 Happy New Year!!🎉
Neat idea.
Thanks Julie🤩
I love this idea, but don’t want my scraps to get dusting when I don’t use them. I am thinking of taking one of my large totes that currently hold all my scraps and drilling holes to fit some dowel rods and then placing the baggies on the rods. No more shuffling my ziplock baggies and everything would hang and be serviceable when I want to use. The lid manages the dust. Great idea @The Sewing Channel
Oh wow your idea sounds great too!!!🤩
This is an awesome idea
Thank you so much Jeanne! Happy New Year!🤩
So, I have to laugh! This is the third time I am watching this, and I keep falling asleep, because I decided to open a bottle of wine ... and there's no one to help me drink it!!! 😋 Hope you have a very Happy New Year, Tracy!!! You have brought me must joy this year! 😘
Hahahahaha...lol😂....well if you fall asleep again....you can always wake up to it in the morning ☀️ Be safe....🤩 Happy New Year my quilty friend🎉
I live about 50 miles away from Cleveland✅

Love it!
This is a great idea
Thank you so much Lucy🤩 Happy New Year🎉
I love it
Thanks a bunch Kathryn🤩
This is genius!!! Can't wait to try this out. Thank you!!
Thank you Katie!!🤩 Happy New Year!!🎉
A clear vinyl shower curtain works well for wall pouches. They are inexpensive…but maybe the vinyl you used is as well….I’ve not ever priced it because I just ran to Walmart and picked up a shower curtain!😊
I really do think those clear shower curtains will totally work...thank you for the tip Rita!!🤩
Very useful. Right now my scraps are in color matched round fabric bins that I made. But as my scraps grow, I need more room and also to be able to see what’s inside easier. But I don’t have the wall space ! Maybe I will make a couple for the largest collections first. Thanks for this idea!
Oh how these scraps grow for sure Mary!!! If wall space is scarce ...Maybe back of a door?🤩 Happy New Year!!🎉
Love your ideas ❤
Shared the heck out of this video. Genius way to keep organized. I'm primarily a scrap quilter, so this sings to my scrappy heart.
Wow such a great idea!! Thank you for sharing Gamadebde!!🤩
Love this thank you for sharing
You're welcome! Happy New Year🤩
Great idea! Thank you!
You are so welcome MaryAnn🤩
Great idea!
Thank you so much Fran!!Happy New Year🎉
Great idea. I have no room for that. I sew in my bedroom Cool 😎
I totally understand🤩Happy New Year🎉
Great idea I’m going to try it gonna have to move my sewing room around a little bit in order to be able to get to a wall
Thank you Nancy! Yes...I had to move my room around a bit too to get it on the wall for efficient ease of use✅worth it!🤩
Tracy, you are so talented!
I just have a brain that won't stop LOL🤩 Happy New Year Connie🎉
Great idea. Unfortunately I have no wall space.
I had to move my sewing room around a bit to get it to work...worth it though🤩 Happy New Year Nancy🎉
