    Very cool test, love your tools.
    My addition - I’m a certified Mitsubishi tech rep and since there no driers in the system you must do a triple evac. 4,000-nitro-1,500-nitro-500 decay test. I love the Navac 4cfm battery pump for residential because it doesn’t pull down as quickly as the 7+CFM pumps and still takes less than 10min to do the whole process minus the decay if you are using the right hoses.

    Thank for the video Jim. I'm curious, in the situation you demoed, would a triple evac help get the moisture out quicker. I have always thought that is why we triple evac but did not here you mention that. Thanks
    Edit: I saw this question asked and answered in the comments. New question, why do we triple evac then, if not to remove moisture????

    i could see where these would be Majorly beneficial if i was Pulling down a 30 ton chiller system.

    Question. So if the weather is warm and we need to leave vacuum pump overnight. Is it best to leave the condenser fan motor and blower motor running to help keep heat over any place the moisture may be collected in so it’ll keep heat on the pipes boiling the moisture?

    Jim, if you have moisture in the system and you level out around 2000 microns, would it be helpful to sweep the system with nitrogen and bring it back to a positive pressure then blow the nitrogen out, or just let the pump keep the vacuum pulling?

    • @accutools6288
      @accutools6288  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only thing nitrogen would do is allow it time to melt if it was ice. The best bet is to just keep pulling.

    Jim if running a nitrogen sweep for 15 minutes at 3 to 5 cfm, would that push the water out much?

    • @accutools6288
      @accutools6288  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope, think about where the sight glass was. Unless you pushed through it you cannot sweep it. The only thing you would sweep would be water vapor and you would remove anyway.

    Good video! Can someone help me understand why the water will become ice in this situation? When the pressure is so low, even ice should have melted or even directly evaporated. I understand that the temperature has dropped as well when pulling, but which one dominates here?

    • @charvakkarpe
      @charvakkarpe 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For one, water cannot exist in deep vacuums, it's either ice or vapor phase. And some of it turns to ice because the phase transition takes away energy and the ice ends up extremely cold. If you've pulled a deep vacuum where theoretically all water and ice should be gone, it's still possible for some ice to exist because it's at much lower temperatures than the surroundings. I plan to wait long enough for conductive or radiant heat transfer to equalize temperatures and get rid of the ice. The issue at that point is that you end up with a deep vacuum that's high in water vapor content. Purging with dry nitrogen and pulling another vacuum is good to dilute out the H2O in the system and also add heat energy in case there's any cold ice in there.

    Assuming evaporation is faster than sublimation is incorrect although the boring affect did accelerate the process becuase it can happen not just on the surface but also inside. Taking the boring affect aside, sulimation is just as quick as evaporation.

    More than a few times I’ve come across a catastrophic Leak that is open to the atmosphere for several days with rain. I’ve been told that the POE oil holds onto moisture. Will that moisture be able to be pulled out of that oil? or is a preemptive compressor change out still the best approach?

    • @accutools6288

      @@accutools6288 Residential sealed compressor. Serious question… How do I change the oil on that?

    • @accutools6288
      @accutools6288  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Pennconst101 For a residential system it is not easy or practical. You would have to pull the compressor and drain it then install new oil. Instead, Install a flare liquid line dryer with a sight glass down stream and monitor it for a few weeks to make sure it is dry. You can have the home owner look at it and let you now if it may need changed again. If it does, pump it down and do a quick evacuation and let it run another week until it is dry. Go with a larger dryer. The only downside is you will need a little more refrigerant.
