We played this at Dad' s funeral in 2015.
My Dad (stepdad) was a hard as nails ex-working cowboy and truck driver but he cried over a poem I wrote for him about how a father didn't have to be bound to his kids by blood as long as he was bound to them by love.

I LOVE this song. It's describes my daddy perfectly! He's 78 now but he and I have always been so close. When my parents come over to visit me and my husband, daddy always hugs me so tight and says "Daddys baby" and I feel so safe. During the summer, even when I was only 5 or 6 he would take me on the road with him as he delivered and sold tires around central/ southern Arkansas. Some of my favorite memories of him were during that time. ❤

I have been singing this song for years. In fact, I am a gospel music artist and put this song on my album that I released a couple of years ago. My parents raised 11 children in very tough times. My father severely injured his back on the job in the 1960s and was not able to continue working his job. However, he worked tirelessly in the large gardens we raised to feed his family. He also Hunted for meat for the table and trapped fur-bearing animals and dug medicinal roots to sell for extra money for the family. I always dedicate this song to my parents whenever I sing it. I have always tried to live up to the hard work and dedication to God and family that my parents gave me as an example. I served 6 years in the Marine Corps, 23 years as a 9-1-1 Dispatcher, then 4 years as a Correctional Officer. I have also volunteered as an EMT and firefighter. I also continue to do what I can for our fallen veterans, by performing military funeral services in both Ohio and West Virginia. I can only hope that my parents are smiling down on me from above.

This song hits home for both my mom and dad. My dad didn’t express much emotion but he always had gentle hands and yes his were steel when us kids did wrong but he never disciplined us without us knowing why he had to do it. I feel like if I could live my life again I would appreciate both of my parents more than I did when I was a kid. I appreciate my parents more now that I became a parent and started to fully understand the why of everything.

Just a bit if truth.....I WROTE THIS SONG.....I LIVE IN OREGON...my sister without my knowledge sent this poem of mine to an ad in the back of a magazine that advertised money for your poems.
I wrote this poem in my bedroom back in 1977. My dad was a mechanic so his hands were always beat up....and sacrificed unselfish supporting 7 children and a home mommy. Hard as steel...I did receive some spankings...also he kneeled beside my bed at night praying 🙏 with me and my sisters.
I know this truth...he knew it as he had read the poem before it ever become a song. When we all heard it on the radio we recognized it. But there was no proof as I had lost my poem book.
This song will live on and leave a mark on this world and be a tribute to my Daddy and that is Royalty enough for me and my daddy and my family who knows who's heart ❤️ it was birthed from.
Thank you for giving my Daddy this respect and honor and featuring it on your broadcast 🎉

Because she was Blacklisted by Country Radio before the end of 1991. First there was the absurd "Maybe I Mean Yes" nonsense. That should have never happened. Clearly, she was being targeted. Then there were complaints from the Railroad industry over "No One Takes The Train Anymore" which should have been a huge song. "Maybe I Mean Yes" had been the CMT Pick Hit Video when it was released. It was her highest debuting single to date. So it was going to be a huge hit for her. What we might now term "Woke" Radicals claimed that the song could lead to potential "Date Rape" which was little short of ridiculous. But she folded to them and had the song pulled from Radio, removed it from her live shows, and taken off CMT and TNN. Instead of her being respected for it, her career was never the same after that. At least not in the United States, but she still got allot of airplay in England and Australia. I was bitterly angry how she was treated. Her brilliant new 1992 album "GETTING IT DUNN" that she spent two years producing should have been her biggest to date, but it was totally snubbed by Mean Spirited Country Radio. After the second single got little air-play she was unexpectedly dropped by Warner Brothers Records in early 93. I was so ticked off, because I knew that album was full of Big Hit songs that never saw the light of day. Prior to the "Maybe I Mean Yes" fiasco Holly was on the verge of becoming one of the top Stars in the industry. Something very similar happen to Lari White in 1996. CMT Pick Hit Video of the week "Wild At Heart". However the video was set in an Asylum and some easily offended trouble-makers crawled out of the woodwork and complained that it was insensitive to the mentally impaired. Total nonsense, but Lari decided to have the Video and the single pulled. Instead of her gaining respect for the decision, RCA shockingly released her from her contract within weeks, letting her fabulous new album "Don' Fence Me In" which was loaded with big hit songs go to waste. This really stalled her momentum, as prior to the "Wild At Heart" uproar Lari was one of the fastest rising female stars in the business. It took Lari 14 months to sign a new recording contract with Lyric Street. She should have never been let go by RCA in the first place. Just so unfair.

Daddy's Hands is Holly's signature song, but it was not her biggest chart hit. Far from it. Her four Number 1's on the three major charting services were "Love Someone Like Me", "Only When I Love" both in 1987 "Are You Ever Gonna Love Me" in 1989 her first Billboard Number, and "You Really Had Me Going" in 1990 which was Number 1 on Gavin, R&R and Billboard. All of these she wrote or Co-wrote. It wasn't a number 1, but one of her most popular songs in "There Goes My Heart Again" from 1989 which reached Number 3 on Billboard. "What Your Love Does To Me" was also Top 5. One of my favorite songs of Holly's is a tune called "Let Go" which weas a staple of her Live shows. "Why Wyoming" and "It's Always Gonna Be Someday" are a couple more lesser-known favorites. She recorded a couple of noteworthy duets with Micheal Martin Murphy and Kenny Rogers respectively. The first of these "A Face In The Crowd" made it to number 3 on Billboard in 1987 and was nominated for vocal collaboration of the year. The other "Maybe" from 1989 is a really underrated song. Kenny and Holly sound great together. I'm really just getting started here. Holly Dunn was a tremendously underrated artist.

I had such a good relationship with my dad. We would do anything for each other. When he was sick, he'd call me over to cook and eat breakfast with him. I took him on a four-hour trip once a month to the V.A. Hospital. We got even closer, and he opened up to me about a lot of things that he regretted when he was a younger man. My only regret was that I didn't have a very close relationship with my mom until he died. I miss them both but know they are together again.

Holly was one of my favorite artists, She has so many great songs. I was a member of her fan club in the early 80's. Holly actually had 4 Number 1 songs, several more Top 5's and Top 10's, Two Gold Albums, and won numerous awards. She was also made an official member of the Grand Old Opry in 1989. That is her brother Chris Waters we see on Harmony in the video. Daddy's Hand's was written in 1983 and recorded in 1985 on her debut album. She had a great run of success up until the middle of 1991, when Holly was literally Black Blisted by Country Radio. I won't get into that right now. In all honesty, she should have had many more Top 5 and number 1 singles, but the Blacklist was hard to overcome. Holly died of cancer in late 2016 at the age of 58. Less than 2 years later another of my other Country favorites Lari White also passed away at just 52 years of age in January of 2018. Hope you will react to some of Lari's songs soon. I was a member of Lari's Fan Club in the 90's as well. Lari won 3 Grammy's in the 90's.

He stayed by my grandma’s side and raised seven children together. He worked hard all his life to provide for his family. This song always makes me cry cause I think about grandpa. He passed too early at 61 years old from a brain tumor. I wish I had a dad like my grandpa. But like you said, I’m trying to do better for my kids than what I had. I still teach them lessons passed into me from my mom, who got them from grandpa.

My brothers and I promised our children and spouses will never receive a closed hand. I would misdirect dad away from everyone else and take the wrong kind of punishment. Too bad my grandpa didn’t learn from his dad. His mom was the abusive person. 4 generations my brothers and cousins haven’t carried on with that kind of treatment to our children and spouses. I still don’t understand why my little brother stayed angry with me for getting in front of him. We’ve settled that out. So spread love to everyone around you.

One of Holly's most powerful songs is "When No Place Is Home". It is almost too painful to listen too. Should have been used like a UNICEF fund raiser or for another charity like Feed The Children. She had a couple of great Duet's "A Face In The Crowd" with Michael Martin Murphy which was nominated for a Grammy. One of her 3 Grammy Nominations. The other was "Maybe" with Kenny Rogers. Holly's song "If Your Heart Can't Do The Talking" from 1992 I still believe was a huge influence on the original version of Shania Twain's "If Your Not In It For Love (I'm Outta Here) a couple 3 years later.

This may or not matter to anyone but... If you have one or both of your parents still here on this earth. Let em know that you love em regardless of how they may have been in the past, because once they're gone... Ya can't go back and change it. I lost my Mama on my oldest son's birthday in 2017, a brother in February of 2018 and then my Dad on my youngest son's birthday. A year and 23 days apart from the passing of my parents. They left this world at the moment they were supposed to but I let both of em know that I love em to the best of my ability. Forgiveness is often hard but it can happen. Just allow yourself to do it.

I'm not a subscriber since I am a bit choosy in the music I listen to. That said, I think you are a truly beautiful lady (in ALL facets) and you always seem to come easily to the emotional meaning of the music you react to. I try to make it a point to catch your reactions when you take up my favorite artists/songs for that very reason. Keep goin'..

This reminds me of my dad whose passed away. He quit spanking me at age 9 when he broke a wood chopping board on my rear end after one hit. He broke out laughing and did spank me no more as he realize a disappointed look from him was worse then a spanking to me.
