    There's some people on this site who you can tell have never used a spray can before, you my friend are not one of them. Excellent work on this job 👍👍👍👍

    I think the box looks great. I believe I will be doing this to mine. I recently bought a black Ranger with no chrome, so the aluminum tool box I have from my old truck just doesn't look right. I was considering buying a new tool box, but your video changed my mind. DIY might be the way to go. Thanks for all the tips.

    I'm glad you made this video because I just bought an old aluminum box that I want to do this exact project to. My truck is all black and white, so I think the black will look way nicer than the diamondplate. Thank you!

      Just finished the tool box rehab and Holy Shit it looks SO GOOD! I wish I could show you the before & after pix! I cleaned it, scuffed it, but used a wire bristle brush and then did a couple coats of self etching primer, then a couple coats of a Rustoleum truck bed liner that is a flat black with a slight texture to it. It covered really well in just two coats, but I'll let it sit overnight and maybe do a third coat tomorrow. I liked that paint so much, I painted my motorcycle ramps, my step stool, and the trailer hitch receiver that I haven't installed yet. I'm prob gonna throw a coat on my nerf bars and I'm also thinking about blacking out my chrome bumpers too! 😂 😂 😂 this paint looks so good, I think I've gone a little crazy with it... 😂 😂 😂

      @@markymark6928 Im curious too, I might do this tonight after work. I work at an Advance Auto so i can get my discount on that stuff. I've never heard of self etching primer though. gonna look into it.

    Turned out damn good. My uncle gave me his old diamond plate toolbox and started to polish it and thought the heck with that. Believe I’ll do this instead.

    when you decide on a sticker font and size you love you should clear coat over it to help make the sticker last! it looks awesome though. considering doing this myself! great video

      @ProjectDuramax  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      DznByLimbo thanks, I didn't think of clear coating over. That would defiantly make it last longer. Thanks for watching.

    You didnt use any primer. That's not going to last. USE PRIMER EVERYONE. METAL PRIMER.

    • @ProjectDuramax
      @ProjectDuramax  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Clay still holding up two years latter. But I do agree primer would help.

    • @TheFlatlander440
      @TheFlatlander440 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally agree with using either a etching primer or non-etching primer if you're going to sand first. Addtionally, I would have used a few coats of flat clear coating to protect the paint from chipping and weather. Snow and ice take their toll on both aluminum and steel, especially where I live.

    If you have a box with parts showing aluminum, vinegar is a good etching solution

    I only bed lined the bottom of my box and nobody has said shit about it yet, like no "hey man, that looks sick",, no comments its like no one even noticed that I put all the work into just spraying the under side of my box.

    I did this about 3 years ago. Started to flake about a year later. Thinking about using another method. I never did scuff the toolbox though.

      use stainless steel. Carbon steel wil contaminate the aluminum and cause corrosion.

    • @ProjectDuramax
      @ProjectDuramax  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The cans were $6-$8 per can when I did this project, no way would I be paying $40 per can that’s insane.

    nice video, but damn it made me dizzy had to go walk around for a while. i hate my eyes, feel so shitty right now. I'm planning on doing this myself and will be doing the interior. I had a box given to me and I wanna clean it up. i was given a black one but wanna just make it tougher and it will look newer this way as well. already had to do some repairs to it like fixing the strikers, that was easy, change the key and angle grind out the messed up ball nuts, that took a while, they don't like to be cut. and installed new struts 35lb rated each. got those on amazon for like 11 bucks w/ tax. great struts. though they don't have oil in them so you need to hold your hand on the lid other wise it opens toooooooo hard. got the new ball nuts on amazon as well for like 11 or 12 after tax. so not bad.
