    One of those orchestral works that talks at great length. Of course there really are no words, but you can't help but feel that sentences and paragraphs are being hurled at you.

    By the time Saygun got to his 5th and last symphony, it is very clear that what we hear is a long way away from the Turkish folk elements he began with. This results in far more drama and gives him the benefit of using different harmonies and dissonance he was unable to incorporate before.
    His splendid orchestration within this symphony is worthy of greater exposure in the concert hall than it gets today.
