Because your young and white dominated schools will not teach black history. I had a liberal history teacher, white, and while I was hospitalized 55 days, he would spend time teaching me these greats, on his own time, unpaid, and expected me to teach others. I did. Some listened, some didn't, but I was a music junkie since I was 5. He's retired and still trying to teach the overlooked black history. Great man!

She was bisexual, and black. America does an awful job of teaching the history of marginalized communities. Interesting that Kevin Hart is telling her story here since he has a vast history of homophobia.

I knew about her in the Uk when I was a kid in the 1970's most British would know who she was, of course we all knew Harold Loyd , Buster Keyton, marlene dietrich, Edith Piaf and Scott Joplin amongst others, it may be an age thing, she was in her prime 80 years ago, when I was a kid that was only 30 years ago

white schools don't focus on black people like her. it's overshadowed by white history.

As much as we all love Beyoncé, we CANNOT compare Joséphine Baker to Beyoncé. Joséphine was in a league of her own. A trailblazer and legendary performer, who received the Croix de Guerre and Légion d'honneur by France for her involvement in the French resistance during the Second World War. She was also the 6th woman and only American to make it into the Panthéon after her death. So no disrespect intended towards Beyoncé, but Josephine is so much more epic and legendary. Beyoncé, on the other hand, is really just another mass product of American pop culture.

    Thanks, Kevin!
Reminder: November 30th, 2021, is the official entry ceremony of Josephine Baker into the Panthéon, in Paris, where the highest of the highest of French artists, writers, statesmen, military, or scientists rest or are commemorated. With her awards such as the Legion d'Honneur, the Croix de Guerre, and the Resistance Medal, being in the Panthéon makes Mrs. Baker a national heroine. Being born and raised in the USA, she is also the symbol of the eternal friendship between France and the United States.

It's hard to believe some of these things (like the brown bag policy, gross) are so recent in our history. Like recent enough that there are people alive who lived through that time.
Not to say racism doesn't exist today obviously but damn.

You better believe that human treated each that way. You only have to look at Yemen and other countries to see how bad humans treat each other.

Josephine Baker was amazing but Kevin Hart said that there MIGHT not be a Beyoncé if their wasn’t a Josephine Baker meaning that there still would have Beyoncé even if Josephine Baker didn’t come out, there probably would’ve most likely been Rihanna too

Only thing better than learning there existed -- in the same century in which I lived nearly half my life -- a beautiful exotic talented beauty of a performer who also happened to be a spy and and bona fide war hero, and speaker at the 1963 March next to Dr. King, and a fairy godmother giving a small army of adopted kids a chance for a good life... Catching my breath, Oh my, is .... having the story delivered with such comic ferocity. The hilariously inept French intelligence officer is even better than Inspector Clouseau, if only because unlike Sellers, he doesn't have a comical face; the guy looks like he could have played the same character in a serious drama, no? Oh and forgive me for being shallow but what joy did I feel seeing her dance at th-cam.com/video/PluQdkOaELs/w-d-xo.html to confirm as undeniable carnal truth what had been until then my growing suspicion that she possessed a smoke-ing-ly hot set of curves in every dimension.... It is such a privilege to have even a decade or two of life concurrent with such a grand person. Non-sequitur warning > In my work I at times feel inundated by the propaganda-ish messages elevating female corporate executives to the lofty status of paragons of success-against-the-odds and champions of feminism and equality, which is I suppose a natural stance for the very large and diverse corporation that employs me, but to me they are far less, or else they wouldn't have chosen that particular sphere of endeavor during the era of late-stage capitalism. Maybe they would have been all that, around 70 years ago. But today I cannot count them on the same level as true humanitarians and heroes like Ms. Baker. Dear heaven I pray, may the young peeps always have the curiosity to discover that people like this actually existed and it is that standard to which they should aspire... and beware imitations!
