Making a half-drow elf sorcerer, their dad was a full elf and their mom was a human. Being ex-nobles on the run (because of racism) their father sacrificed themselves. Mad with grief their mother tried to kill them because as the years went by they more and more resembled the old love. In self-defense, the half-drow awakened their storm sorcery powers and struck their mother down. They were kicked out of a druid village that they were staying at after losing control and nearly burning down the forrest, but the village elder was kind enoughto set them up under the apprenticeship of a sailor and they were gifted with a necklace of the last undead words of their parents.

Mine is half-elf girl from high-elf sorcerer father and human mother, but my character ended up being barbarian😂

I think Wood Elf is my favorite.
I'll be going with this set up tomorrow: Wood-Elf/Ranger:Gloom Stalker/ With Sleight of Hand & Investigation Proficiency
To me, you have to compare half high elf to high elf, and wood elf to half wood elf.
Going with Wood Elf vs Half Wood Elf since I understand them best:
They BOTH get an exclusive move speed of 10.5m, which is higher than any other race in the game. (Or atleast wiki says)
And while there are some minor attribute differences (Wood elf getting +2 dex, while the half one gets +2 cha)
The actual differences are as follows and if youre between half elf, or elf than this should be all that dictates your decision between them IMO unless there are RP aspects for you
For the half you will get:
2 extra attribute points on start. Which can be put in to either Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence or Wisdom.
    vs. Wood Elf:
    You will gain perception proficiency
along with the following weapon proficiencies (Longsword, Shortsword, Longbow and Shortbow)
The bow proficiencies are exclusive to the actual elf, and no other race gets them (not sure if you can attain in game some other way. going off wiki)
It should be noted that longsword and shortsword proficiencies can be provided by Bard or Rogue classes as well.
That seems to be all the difference I spotted as far as the wood elf is concerned, and this will likely be very similar for the high elf.
Essentially, you'll be deciding between gaining 2 attribute points, or multiple proficiencies if you only care about stats on non RP elements related to race.

I wish they kept the original option for half elf's in the player's handbook. Being able to have +2 to charisma and +1 to two of your other stats is awesome.

I like High Elf for Mage and Half Elf for ranger.

Would the Monk class make a good choice for the Wood Half-Elf?

with the new rule that BG3 have put in place, you can make any class work with any race.
