I remember learning from you. You are my favorite beginner's guitar teacher. I am now what I consider to be an advanced intermediate player. All these techniques seem so easy to me now, but for anyone just starting out keep going because it will certainly pay off in time. Thanks for all you do Mr. Michaud. You have more students than you'll ever really know. May you continue to be a blessing to others as you have been to me. Thanks! 😊 🙏
This is really helpful! I had misunderstood how to mute the strings. I love the "karate chop" description. I also really appreciate that you incorporated lots of practice and you went nice and slow - reminding me to be patient and slow down when I'm practicing something new!
I LOVED this video. I watched it on my lunch break at work and went home to try it out that night and I sucked and couldn't do it right and sounded awful, so I gave up immediately. About a month later I sat down and wrote a song using a muted strum combo on the verses and I was able to do play it perfectly. 11/10 would recommend.
You actually taught my how to palm mute in an earlier video last year🥰 I kept hearing people do it, but none of the guitar videos showed the angle I needed to see. Yours showed the angle looking down at the strings and slooowly!🤩Now I need to find a really good video to learn the bass string slap/pop thing that I see on these fingerpicking videos!🥰💖
I use the fleshy side palm part of my thumb when I do this without a pick, kind of in conjunction with the top of my fingernail. Pinch your thumb and finger together like you're holding a pick, when you strum, you'll be on your index nail, on the outer edge- when you mute, you'll let your finger curl a little as you strike the strings with the side of your thumb/ palm so the top of your nail adds to the percussive texture. It's a lot easier to do than to explain!🤩💖
You read my mind. I needed this.
Glad I could help, eNeVe Family.

Thank you for this! One of the most useful and enjoyable guitar tutorials I have come across! 🥳
Thanks, Nishi. I appreciate it.
Always struggled with muting strings and this video really helped! With a bit more practice I reckon it'll be second nature. Thank you very much :)

This works only when using a pick?
I can do this without a pick also. Would you like me to make a video on this?
