Please Denon.... listen....make this Cdj is true standalone controller. Please add headphone cue and a volume control and a headphones jack. So we play two decks without needing a mixer. Then this thing will be a pure gold. No Cdj controller has that so far in the market.
@4:30 using media directly from stick is no revolutionary....stanton scs.4dj was one of the first controllers with built in screen and Linux software built into the unit. Had built in effects, looper and slice etc... and would remember up to 3 cue points for every individual track. So not revolutionary to be able to use without a laptop.
Hello, nice review. I am deciding whether to get XDJ-1000mk2s or a pair of SC5000s. I use a RMX-60 mixer and don't have the budget to buy the X1800. Having used a controller for years I like the not such controller styled layout of the XDJs. So what should I get and how much does the SC5000 feel like a controller?
The SC5000 does not really feel like a controller... It feels like a next-gen player/deck. Its very solid and more professional feeling than most controllers. They are really sick devices...
On the surface this is a nice bit of kit, but in the Denon groups on FB a lot of people complaining about DOA units turning up, one dude had his replaced 3 times! Also the standalone mode with their own native software is apparently buggy... I would love to think Denon could go head to head with Pioneer, but you can't beat Pioneer ATM. And I don't even use Pioneer kit! I'm on a Z2 with a pair of Techs!
The players aren't that buggy. I had one unit out of three die abuptly after a few months and they sent a replacement immediately upon the creation of a ROA ticket. Engine Prime itself lacks some of the features and flexibility of Rekordbox, but I don't even bother with it except to run a database creation scan on a drive so I can seach for tracks quickly on the players. Denon DJ has also fixed a number of quirks so far in both the desktop software and the players' firmware and we expect more changes soon.
No... serato only uses 4 decks at a time... I guess you could hook up two SC5000's to two different computers and try to sync them all on the X1800 Mixer and use 8 Decks, but that is so confusing IMO...
If you're gonna use Serato, then use a controller. If you want to use CDJs or players like this, then use a USB and use your ears. Using a laptop with CDJs just defeats the object of them.
Playlist structure is not good. The jog wheels are the worst part of the unit. All they have to do is change the jogs in the next version,

Anybody tried to run these and the 6000 on different mixers for example DJM 900 nexus2?? I'm curious how its compared to the X1800?
These work great with DJM-900 but Pioneer will make a new 4-channel mixer soon, so I would wait for that one OR go with the X1800/1850...

pioneer can easily be beat, the DDJ-RX is a heap of shit, pioneer are glossy on the outside, cheap and nasty inside

So can Serato be spread over two decks with the tracks on four layers?
Or 2 instances of Serato spread across twin decks to enable 8 tracks?
No... serato only uses 4 decks at a time... I guess you could hook up two SC5000's to two different computers and try to sync them all on the X1800 Mixer and use 8 Decks, but that is so confusing IMO...
