    love this. Thank you Eric. When you are enormously famous I will be able to say that I had some instruction from you. This helps me as I am spending time on master copies.

    Great video! So far a couple of things I don't think are completely correct. Mineral spirits only damage the film strength if used in excess, they don't damage oil paint if used properly. It's absolutely fine to add oil to the surface in an extremely thin layer, usually with almost all of it rubbed off, lubricating the surface and painted into. As long as you aren't slopping on the oil and not covering these areas with paint or glazes, it's fine. If you run into beading issues with the oil, try oleogels, they do not bead up at all. Hope this didn't come off as too critical or anything.

    I really appreciate that this was posted free of charge but it sucks that it sped up once he started adding color. That was probably the most crucial part for me.

      You know you can slow the speed down using the little gear icon at the bottom right of the video, though.

    Just so I don't have to pay $120 on eBay to buy this DVD, can somebody please tell me if every second of this 2-and-half-hour video is exactly what I would have gotten from that DVD, no missing fact/secrets or anything? :) I want to attain as much knowledge from this as I can :)

    Thanks for this. I had learned Rembrandt's technique from books decades ago but Eric Johnson's demonstration filled in some critical holes, fine points like how to get an even tone and how to connect masses of like value (draw with masses of value and not line, so the masses are connected from the start). I had thought I knew all this yet the fine points were a real surprise and very helpful. I'll be purchasing this video to see if there are any other nuggets I didn't know.

    This painting the artist copies is not even by Rembrandt. A simple search of the Corpus of Rembrandt or even Google would have fixed this major misattribution.

    Puno seres ! Rembrant nije slikao tako , ne lazi gledaoce !

    Rembrandt never painted like this it is too timid and is an attempt at reverse engineering. There are many examples of the process from this period.

    • @sp4de69
      @sp4de69 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know of Tom Keatings Rembrandt process, but do you happen to have any links to other examples? It would be greatly appreciated.
