ive always heard rumor that its a mixture of mash bill 1 and 2 but if it were only one of the two, my guess is mash bill 2

I love this bottle.
I can get Blanton's pretty easy in Florida at $62.99 sitting on 16 bottles...It took me two years to find JJB and finally accumulated 13 bottles. JJB is twice distilled at Buffalo Trace and third distilled in a Pot Still at Bowman....sourced all my bottles in Ga and Tn....
Enjoyed your tasting comparison. I’m a Virginia resident and have tried Bowman’s a couple of times as it has been readily available at my local ABC. Your comparison to Blanton’s has validated my thoughts as well. On my way to restock and will pick up another bottle…..thanks again for sharing your thoughts.

A. Smith Bowman distillery was originally located in Reston, VA, before moving to Fredericksburg. I enjoy pours of John J. Bowman and Russell’s Single Barrel - two of my favorites.

I just happened to be having a pour of John J. Bowman when I saw your review tonight. I love the Bowman, it's definitely a solid pour. I haven't compared it to Blanton's or Taylor but I'll have to give it a go. Great job as always, look forward to more reviews. Be well!

From what I’m hearing, John j is BT distillate, bowman brothers and Isaac bowman are produced in va.

I've heard so many rumors on how Bowmans Bourbon is made. Even a rumor that they mix mash bill 1 and 2, lol. I 100% agree though about mouth feel. Kind of like Woodinville with the creamy mouth feel

You kept saying aa replacement for Blantons, but Blantons itself is just a good bourbon, but not special except in name and reputation. I would say its my least favorite BT product
Nice review Bourbon judge! I now live in KC but moved from DC and use to pick up the single barrel Bowman a lot. Great oily mouth feel and I enjoyed it more than both EH and Blantons. I did actually read that It was from Batch 2 rather than 1.. Maybe one day the secret will get out!

Everybody seems to have figured this one out where I live. I used to be able to get it at multiple locations and it's been completely OoS everywhere nearby for months now.
Yeah getting harder to find by me too
I bought a bottle of this about a month ago and was unimpressed with the newly opened neck pour. A couple of weeks later, tasted it again, it was very solid.

they are distilling their own product now to some extent, but it needs 8 years to age. in the meantime the JJB single barrel is still using the BT distillate redistilled in VA i think. its the small batch, isaac bowman and the others that use in house distillate (rum vodka gin made there too)

Thanks for the review judge, gotta admit I searched for this bottle and was disappointed with it. It had a weird kinda metal tingy taste to me, just my humble opinion. BT products are reallu good so I can't believe this is BT juice, but who knows. Keep up the good work my brotha!

One of the bottles I most regret missing out on was the Bowman Cask Strength they did in 2021. Would still love to track that one down.

We've had this in the past, or one of the Bowman's. Today, I saw Issac Bowman, Bowman Brothers, and John J. Bowman, all small batches, with the IB being a port finish. It will be interesting to see what their limited release is.
Hey Toni. They definitely make some good juice for sure. The port is good too. I think this one is the best but I haven’t had the infamous limited edition cask strength 😂.

The bottle I have has a super viscous, oily mouthfeel and is super heavy on the fruit notes. Overall I think its nice

This is from Breaking Bourbon, "It is believed the new make they use originates from Buffalo Trace and is their #1 mashbill. John J. Bowman Single Barrel is triple distilled. It’s unclear how many times A. Smith Bowman re-distills it through their unique copper still, but it is rumored to be twice distilled at Buffalo Trace and once at A. Smith Bowman. The company then ages the whiskey onsite. While no age statement is present, according to the company’s press materials John J. Bowman Single Barrel is aged between 9-10 years." I have always believed it tasted more like BT mashbill #2 as well.

I enjoy this more than EH Taylor. It’s one of my favorites. The long peppery finish is fantastic. Unfortunately, it’s been getting harder to find due to reviews like yours.

Reportedly Bowman’s is Buffalo Trace mashbill #2, which is also what Blantons is made from. EH Taylor is reportedly Buffalo Trace mashbill #1. That makes sense as to why the Blantons and JJB are similar.
Living in VA, I always have Bowman SB in my collection. I think it’s better than Blanton’s and I regularly recommend it to people I run into looking for Blanton’s. Hopefully it won’t start getting hard to find. Fredericksburg is about an hour away. When I visit the distillery, I’ll let you know what I find out. Enjoy what I believe to be Virginia’s finest.

The size of the facility and equipment is still at a craft distillery level. Too small to push a national product, I’m putting my money on BT helping out. Love this whiskey, the brand and the local presence.

Get around to some of the Elijah Craig barrel proof expressions. High proof flavor bombs, around 12 years old - $70 - $100. These will change your pallet forever.
