This but Halo 2 Imagine playing through Forerunner Tank or even the intended Covenant ship level I’d love to see a Halo 2 SPV3 or something to take those ideas and bring them out
honestly, if they could cut the ship section of floodgate, it could be feasible to extend that section into a full level that has you blow the reactor and end mostly the same. what I'd be more interested in is how they'd go about creating two brand new levels to precede the covenant using guardian as a base. personally I'd find it more awesome if they made it so these levels were more arbiter and the elites centric than the others just so they have more screentime than the final game gave them.
Aparently exist a Project of Modders that will bring all that content back. They started with Halo 2 and its pretty awesome see how really Bungie intended the SP be
Mirandas dialogue still makes sense. Chiefs mission until the elites showed up was to blow up the cruiser, when the elites show up, he no longer has to, as they can just glass the city. His mission changes to getting cortana.
Logically, sure, but it's still an odd moment given that it's not directly stated that the objective has changed. One of many cases of bad writing in H3.
Going off the definition of Epitaph, It seems it's there is becuase it's a tombstone or a tribute in memory of a individuals work. Meaning this could be after the planned fight with the guardian in the story.
Carlos Emilio No, OP is actually correct. I was gonna comment the same thing until I saw this post, but a long time ago either in a Bungie Weekly Update or in a Bungie.net Thread in the Halo 3 section, Bungie confirmed that the hologram on Epitaph is a depiction of that cut boss from the Forest level
UPDATE: The model for the Guardian has been found in the files! Check my Twitter for some screenshots. Thank you to the cut-content chat on the Discord for discovering this!
Idk if this is helpful at all to finding more about 08 Forest: on the original 360 there’s this modded map for Guardian that’s playable online. The unique thing about it is though, if you’re host it has this whole holographic display showing the seven Halo’s and the Ark in the center platform. I have never seen those assets in any other part of the game, so maybe they’re from that cut level?
@@Epsilvonic I remember that mod! Not entirely sure on this, but I think those assets were from both the cartographer on 070_waste and possibly 100_citadel. Not positive on the latter, but that model of the ark is from the cutscene when chief activates the map.
I would reach out to Marty, he seems to be cool about talking about behind the scenes stuff. Either he or somebody he’s still in contact with may have some info on 090.
Apparently 090_Alpine was just the first half of the Covenant and Bungie decided early on to merge it with 100_Citadel, which is the second half of the Covenant.
Honestly, I'm kind of glad they didn't. It wouldn't make sense for them to throw in a mechanic like piloting a scarab once and then never use it again for the rest of the game. Also, the entire concept of it sounds a bit ridiculous, and I know Halo can be pretty ridiculous sometimes, but Cortana is meant to be a very serious and personal mission. It's also meant to stand out from the rest of the campaign by trading combat in areas with lots of open space for almost claustrophobic corridors and more close-quarters engagement. Having an obnoxiously titanic battle like that thrown in there would detract from that, and the idea itself sounds like something more suited for a franchise like Metal Gear rather than Halo.
Halo 3 had a great campaign, but my biggest issue with it is that... I felt like I was missing something. That when played from start to finish it always felt like I was missing something far more 'grandiose' in the later parts of the game and that I wanted *more* when the campaign ended. Yeah, I remember the cut Scarab part in Cortana part mentioned years ago, but this pretty much confirms that there was some extra stuff that we can only imagine playing through now. Thanks for digging this all up for us!
It's a bit underwhelming compared to halo 2. You spend most of the time in Africa and the Ark while in 2 you start in a space station, then you get to explore new mombasa, delta halo and high charity.
@@bensadfleck9972 Yeah, and not to mention that you get a whole perspective flip by getting an inner look of the mechanicisms and politics of the Covenant through the eyes of a disgraced Elite. Halo 2 was a bit of a mess in some regards (in the rushed-out-the-door way), but what it did right it did right. Granted back in the Halo 2 days, Arbiter got the same treatment as Locke did in 5, but when we look back on it... his story in Halo 2 was one of the best parts. Like I mean that you got all the people (and whomever is reading this, you know who you are) screamed out how they didn't want to play as an alien warrior and they wanted to play as MC. It's why Arbiter barely has any story to him in Halo 3 other than being Chief's alien buddy.
@@bensadfleck9972 Halo 2 is the most underwhelming of the series. It's meh level design and numerous cut content just makes it a disappointment. Halo 3 would've been better without the cut content but Halo 2 actually suffers from it's cut content
@@tastycookiechip oh absolutely, the pacing and linear level design were my biggest problem when i played Halo 2! I'm just saying, H2 story had a lot more going on with the story, not to mention the amount of locations. I just finished playing the trilogy on PC and i would say halo 3 is my favorite campaign so far, it doesnt have a lot of backtracking compared to CE and it doesnt have a broken difficulty like halo 2
Fact from an old xbox magazine: that robot on Epitaph was going to be a boss fight at the end of the missing level, he was going to drop a turret like mega centinel beam, the structure of the level was like going through 3 or 4 "guardian map" estructures I think it was going to be like guarding a door or an important forerunner structure, like the silent cartographer, imagine the covenant trying to access the building. Otherwise there is no reason to go to another place between the existing missions
Floodgate being heavily cut makes sense too as it is probably the shortest halo campaign level taking only around 5-8 minutes if you're going fairly quickly. (and i do mean actual levels, not those 5 minute talk to someone kind of missions)
@@ItsButterBean1020 I heard that the cortana mission was originally going to be the second half of floodgate instead of it just ending after you enter the ship.
I knew something was always off about this mission because even though the map is the exact same size as "The Storm" I've beaten it in 4 minutes by just walking past everything. Unlike every other mission (except Sierra 117 but that's literally the first level) there is only one prompt/objective so I always thought it was rushed. Glad but slightly sad to know that my suspicions were correct.
this whole thing with high charity explains alot, i was always disappointed in the level cortana for not looking like high charity in halo 2, this also explains why chief doesnt get those visions of cortana during the ark or the covenant like he does in all the other levels shes not with him as she was originally supposed to be back in his head in those levels. also rly sad all evidence of the other two levels is gone, a forerunner city and the guardian level are things id have loved to have seen
From what I understand, Bungie's main reasons for cutting a lot of the missions was that the story was very incohesive and it seemed like a lot was going on and you keep going to different places yet nothing was actually happening. They reviewed the story in mid-development (Marty O'Donnell, the series' composer, played a big part in this review, fun fact) and decided that it would be too long and drawout for a lot of players, and wanted to condense it as to keep the story comprehensible. This is also why Sargent Johnson dies at the end, he was originally intended to survive but the writers thought that there was no sense of loss at the end of the game.
Once we get the official mod tools i would love to see some of these campaign maps remade or perhaps someday 343 could release some of them with said mod tools for us to mess around with
I love halo 3, but I’m never going to be able to look at it the same again knowing at one point we could’ve fought the fucking gravemind boss battle in a damaged scarab. I cannot understand why that was cut.
Mechanics of the fight might have been weird, it could have felt like a really scripted fight, or probably just cuz the scarabs in the game didn’t really have a control center/ bridge like the halo 2 scarab
Marty in a recent interview explained why they didn't have trouble cutting boss fights: they never could make any of them good lol he even said "come on, in Halo 2 we made you beat up an old man in a chair!" While it wasn't really a boss, though devs explain in the vid docs that no matter what, the player had to kill 343 in gameplay, not a cut scene. Bungie in Halo 3 just really wanted to focus on their strong suits because they dreaded their mistakes with the crunch during Halo 2. Makes sense.
@@monsterchief117 Yeah it kind of makes sense. The boss fights of Halo 2 were not very good so they decided to just ditch it. Even though that kind of made it feel weird later. By the time you get to Reach they have ditched boss fights, and Dual wielding.
I think I can understand why: It would've felt very out of place. It wouldn't make sense for them to throw in a mechanic like piloting a scarab once that far into the game, and then never use it again for the rest of the game. Having an obnoxiously titanic battle like that thrown in there would detract from that, and the idea itself sounds like something more suited for a franchise like Metal Gear, which prides itself on its hilarious levels of ridiculousness, rather than Halo. That's my two cents, anyway. I know it'd be fun but it would've ruined what Cortana as a level was trying to do.
They could have had Gravemind's tentacles constantly coming out to kill you when you were destroying High Charity's reactors, all with Gravemind's angry screaming and ranting as he tried to stop you from blowing up everything. You didn't have to have a giant Venus fly trap monster trying to kill you, just the tentacles coming from some unseen area and you having to shoot at them in order to make them retract and stop impeding your progress. They could have done so much and I really feel like Halo 3 was missing something by not giving us a confrontation with Gravemind.
You could see some notable locations such as the mausoleum of the arbiter in the distance early in the mission. And the room where you retrieve cortana is the prophets’ chambers from halo 2, the room near the end of the mission high charity where you can find an energy sword on a table in the middle, immediately before flying up to the final room with the brutes and flood fighting.
I remember hearing somewhere that the mission Cortana was going to have the player visit the mausoleum of the Arbiters where they would have to fight flood infected versions of all the dead arbiters there
kinda makes you wonder why those arbiters are in suspended in cryofreeze or the covenant equivalence. only other reasons besides sentiment is resurrection.
thinking about a alternate reality Halo 3 gives me chills man, that forest always felt very interesting to me. when i was a kid i used to always have dreams of halo levels that never existed, so watching these videos are so juicy to me.
I've known about some of this for a while, but not all. We were supposed to have a boss fight with the Gravemind where we used a damaged Scarab? That would definitely explain the Scarab already having it's own preset camera track. That's even more evident in ODST. Not to mention the cut Reach mission between New Alexandria and The Package where you were supposed to hijack a Scarab and drive it through the glassed city. My question is why everytime they were going to have a Scarab mission did they cut it? Not only that, but all these other missions would have given Halo 3 in particular,a lot more flavor. It's good, but it would have been better with all this. Which is why I'm glad Infinite is not only delayed, but also going the route of continously adding content,or at least we can assume given what we know. It just irks me everytime I hear what they cut, because they are always the really fun missions. Thanks for finding all this!
All this time I thought one of the semi-redeeming qualities of 343 and H5 was their introduction of these cool and mysterious Guardian beings... come to realize it’s just a design cue and canon idea they lifted directly from Bungie and applied their odd hyper-clean Forerunner aesthetic on
Would it be possible to rebuild these levels, or at least bits and pieces? I'm wondering since who knows what could be possible once 343 releases better modding tools for MCC.
@@paydenjackson7156 Yes, but 343 has the Halo 2 Alpha/Beta builds as well as the Stencil Engine build and because they have that, Then they must have the Alpha/Beta Builds of Halo 3. And from that we fans (with proper mod tools/HEKs) can remake the cut content.
@MatthewPNG Well its gonna take some time cleaning up each game's HEK, getting them to work on AMD/Intel machines since H3 and ODST used Power Macs as the workstations to make the games with, so naturally the HEKs for those games ran on them too and sweet Jesus Power Mac code does not like AMD/Intel based machines. I know MS was okay with Bungie releasing the HEK for H2V and Gearbox handing out the HEK for CE. So on the management front Im not too concerned.
@@ShmeeGrim They will though because the old Halo engine is pretty much obsolete at this point thanks to the new Slipspace engine. I expect we won't hear anything about it until mod support is finished however.
Floodship was likely a result of rewrites Marty ran over with the script. Marty brought in a lot more Halo 2-ish elements later on, which would explain why this Flood Ship was mostly repurposed for High Charity.
Conspiracy theory: Shotgun was a member of Bungie, and already knew about certain aspects of the cut content. Hence why he is modding Halo so flawlessly.
Pretty sure "plasma mortar" is referring to the wraith's weapon, but not 100% on that. The Mantis is interesting, but Halo 3's AA Gun was also called the "Mantis" in the lore, so it could just be a reference to that.
Since the release of the official Halo 3 Mod tools, some of the internal mapfile names were revealed for those outoftheloop. -005_intro -010_jungle -020_base -030_outskirts -040_voi -050_floodvoi -055_shadow -060_floodship (missing) -070_waste -080_forest -090_alpine -100_forecity (100_citidel) -110_hc_old (110_hc) -120_halo -130_epilogue
I remember back in like 2008 or 9. I went to my uncle’s house, I had brought Halo 3 with me because he had an Xbox. Upon launching the game and going into the level select there was a mission after “halo”. I don’t remember the name. But it was like a sandbox map. But much darker, and you were on a pyramid of sorts. And enemies racing up towards you, flood and whatever. I also remember picking up a brute plasma rifle and using it. Unfortunately this was so long ago and I was very young back then, so this is roughly all I remember. I don’t think the Xbox was ever modded. So I’m not sure what triggered this. I’ve never found this level or heard anyone talk about it before. But maybe this will spark something?
It would be awesome to see some people (not necessarily you, but a group of dedicated people) try to put together these missing missions if we had the modding tools. Maybe some day decades in the future like the SPV3 mod for Halo 1.
I’m actually kind of surprised there’s quite a bit of cut content, considering how halo 2 was in development. I always suspected there was cut content. In chapter 5 (when you enter the flood ship) there’s an energy sword that’s pretty useless since you fight any enemies. You don’t even get to spawn with your previous weapons for the next mission.
This makes certain things about the mission "Cortana" make A LOT more sense. Like why we go through what clearly is the bridge of a cruiser, but don't see anything that makes it look like high charity, aside from the room where we find Cortana, and that ONE glimpse of the Mausoleum of the Arbiter in the background. It the mission were designed to be High Charity from the beginning, ti would have done a lot more to reference the Halo 2 location.
My theory is since the cortana mission was actually just the flood ship mission then that means mission 090 would have been something completely different and cortana obv wouldnt have been there. Maybe something like the huge battle we've seen footage of before but my theory is bungie scrapped a lot of these cooler ideas because they were way too ambitious and they didn't want to repeat the mistake they made with halo 2 with taking on more than they can chew.
Hey man, I’ve been watching since the original Haunted, and I gotta say your content has always been top tier. Your mods are super fun to play, and you just seem like an all around cool dude. Keep up the great work mate!
The Cortana flood-ship level connection now makes perfect sense, I always wondered why in the mission "Cortana", that the interior of High Charity was oriented up-right when it's actually on it's side.
GAH this is so COOL! Im gunna be honest, I WANT THESE LEVELS SO BADLY THEY SOUND AWESOME Ive always thought in Halo 3's story cortana being saved at the very end was a bad move. So validating to see that she was gunna be saved earlier.
well, from what i remember Cortana(current) was just going to be the next part of floodgate. Cortana(cut) was in it's same place and it was level where you saved cortana put her in a damaged scarab and had to hold off waves of flood and gravemind tentacles.
The reactor asset is just like what was used in Cortana. It makes me think it would have been a semi-tutorial like how to take down scarabs. I always took the line that the explosion was the first plan, but as elites came and once cortana was possibly there it changed and the elites went to glassing the area of flood instead of the reactor explosion.
Hey man, just a QQ, but do you think that ODST has a cut mission for Dare? She's the only squad member we dont play as. I'd check myself but I'm in bed lol
@@thelonlypanda1 I mean, I've checked by now. There's nothing in the names that suggest anything and the only assets that are carried over that are kind of suspicious are left over from Halo 3 such as "flood_muffin". But no, I'm apparently incapable of reading file names.
Don't quote me as I heard this from a halo lore expert. Cut mission 090 was master chief and arbiter in a ground vehicle fighting along side elites in other ground vehicles busting through a flood blockade. It was a shorter mission but had a firefight component as you battled wave after wave of flood and had to stay in your vehicle.
RejectedShotgun already has brought back the Guardian boss fight for 080 Forest Guardian. If enough modding tools are given by 343, we could have a Halo 3 extended campaign mod someday.
Speaking of cut content, have you ever noticed in the opening cutscene to the last level of Halo 3, that the Pelican suddenly acquires a smoking thruster and crushes, despite being totally fine in the previous shot? And more to the point, there is no dialogue in the scene, and nobody mentions having just crashed and how that will effect the mission. I think the original plan was to have a much longer final mission, maybe even pulling areas from AotCR in CE, but had to scrap it due to time. Then they added in the Pelican crash scene so they could move the mission start to where it is now, and decided not to get the voice actors back in to record new lines.
The Forest Guardian map was probably really close to being done or was just cut because it served no purpose and made the campaign longer, hence why it was turned into a multiplayer map While looking at 090, other sources say it had the internal name of Alpine. I believe Forest Guardian had its assets mixed in with the Covenant, Horney fight etc. 090 or Alpine has a lot of concept art, as well as describing the kind of trees we'd see on it.
Since the MCC has come out on PC I messed around with modding and when halo 3 came out and updated Assembly I found it weird that there were gaps in the map numbering but I didn't make the connection that these were cut maps so this video is really interesting to me.
I looked at your twitter and saw that it said that the golden hologram on Epitaph is actually the cut Forest Guardian. This makes me think that the map Epitaph itself might have been Bungie's way of commemorating the cut content and the work of the team that would never be realized as the definition of epitaph is "a phrase or form of words written in memory of a person who has died, especially as an inscription on a tombstone." Alternatively, this map Epitaph may have also had some form of connection to the cut content and may have meant to be featured in 080 or even 090.
What makes a lot of sense now, is how a floodified covenant ship sonehow broke quarantine and jumped to earth since cortana was originally on that ship it easily did its escape.
I have a belief that, based off of Halo 2's hellish development that led to so much content cut and redone because Bungie got so ambitious but Xbox original limited the game that Halo 2's ending wasn't how it was supposed to end that led into Halo 3. From what others that uncovered over the years that the final mission in Halo 2 was supposedly going to be the cut Halo 2 warthog run. There were many missions in halo 2 cut like flood tank, Miranda's betrayal, and inside the assault covenant ship when delivering the bomb, etc. Well I believe that in Halo 3 it was for the most part going to start out the same but that there wasn't going to be a mission where you go into High Charity to get Cortana back. That Cortana would have escaped on her own and you get her out of their and destroy the inside of the ship. Only maybe 1/4 or 1/3 of Halo 3 was ever going to take place on Earth and most of it would be on the Ark as the files show. That there would be the Ark missions, the guardian mission, the forerunner city, where then they would find out what Truth was up to and would have more Truth dialog and not be absent for most of the game but rather he would be gloating in his ego glorifying his power for finding the Ark. Then the Flood shows up on citadel. Then you destroy High Charity and activate Halo. I feel like the reason for all these cuts was due to Halo 2's hellish development that maybe even very early on that in fact the ships going into the portal on earth was actually going to be the real halo 2 ending and that the mission would have started on Halo 3 with the crashed flood ship getting cortana out. it would have made sense and have most of the campaign almost entirely on the Ark with massive battles. But ya it looks like there was a lot more development hell under the hood than we knew about. and i already thought it was bad enough but it looks like there would have maybe been a mission in between each halo 3 mission that got cut as you see the intro starts with 5 and not 0 so maybe there was an additional 13 missions planed as well that never made it
Bro the Guardian level that was cut was lowkey depicted in Halo Legends Origins. The part where the Gravemind hands the Chief the AI Chip containing Cortana. I guess that's why the events that are depicted are different to the actual events of Halo 3. Maybe where 343 got the idea. I wish we got to see the events of Origins in Halo Infinite somehow.
I'm surprised you're not treating 'Cortana' as a cut level given what was released was a different level (Floodship) but renamed, more people should know about the cut mausoleum of the arbiter i.e chief fighting flood forms of the previous arbiters.
there's two things that remain from the guardian. One of them is actually confirmed, the hologram on epitaph is actually a guardian. The second thing is the towers on sandbox. They shoot lasers at you from a glowing eye, so, that might have been the guardian eye weapon at some point
7:50 I think I know what mission was suppose to take place after that. It must of been Mausoleum of the Arbiter. It was a planned area where you were gonna go through in the wrecked High Charity in Halo 3s Cortana Level. The only thing left of that mission was the ruins of that actual area in Halo 3s Cortana level in the background its easy to miss but looks just like how it did in Halo 2 but its tilted and a bit submerged underwater. The reason you cant find the mission in the files is sadly because it was really was just turned into a background object.
That bit with the guardians eye bungie did not fully scrap it, but used it in the first destiny. When you needed a gatelords eye, so it isn't farfetched that the reused the concept for destiny 1 and or 2..
I wonder if the guardian "eye" was reworked into the spartan laser? It seems to match the description pretty well and you don't see any lasers that I'm aware of until after that level would've taken place.
Guardian was always one of my favorite Halo 3 maps, and I've tried (yet unsuccessful) to recreate it in every subsequent game... I am DEFINITELY designing a suedo-campaign map based off Guardian in Infinite... Thank you so much for revealing all this to us! You do great work, man! 😁
My guess, the mission 090 would have been something to the library, needing to find an index or some form of one to fire all the halo rings at once. Or something similar to that one flood mission from halo 2 where you had to race the humans to index only this time the roles are swapped.
090 was a part II for there forest mission. You were suppose to carry the eye into the overgrown city and use it to repair some sort of link. By repairing this link, you would've activated the Halo Firing ring protocol, and everything from there on would've been like a confirmation of that. This is a Theory though, and I think it makes sense.
I can guess for 090 that if they come from a forest fighting a Guardian boss through to the objetive of disabling the barriers (where there's still a lot of green) of the Ark core then to entre the citadel, it could be 1 out of 2 options: 1. As it seems from The covenant, Ark core seems an island, just like The Silent Cartographer. So maybe a battleship level that mayor be inspired by the level of Longshore ships. 2. The/A spceship battle taking place in the surroundings/background of the Ark skies against the covenant to get in afterwards as they arrive to the island in Pelicans, as it was done again (or not, if it was planned for 090) as a deployment scene for the first mission on the Ark. I would like also to add that a massive campaign level based in guardian would be like construct mixed with Sierra 117, and maybe that's why they cancel it, because they splitted that in two new levels that reduce also the conmplexity and the scope of the level in order to fit the constraints of time and resources for the project. Besides of those opinions, very cool content Rejected. Greetings from the battlefield, Spartan.
080 seems to be the most interesting mission in my opinion. If it looked like the multiplayer map, then it would probably be my favorite mission in the series.
Fighting the guardian to get the eye, and have that as a way of creating the Spartan laser would've been epic. Some people should try and create fan made campaign levels if they have the resources to do it.
Apparently 090 was a "Lost City" level following the boss battle in the forest guardian battle. I can't say this is 100% true, but i would check out the Bungie Restoration Project mod on Nexus for more.

I always assumed chief was supposed to destroy the flood ship but when cortana was discovered that was deemed more important. I just assumed the flood ship was dealt with by glassing
It is incredible how halo 3 can still give us that mistery feeling after all those years and Halo 5 feels like a Power Ranger movie. seriously I searched the Epitaph Guardian and that thing is scary as hell, unlike 343 Guardians that are cool to see but don't deliver that powerfull forerunner feeling

Having an obnoxiously titanic battle like that thrown in there would detract from that, and the idea itself sounds like something more suited for a franchise like Metal Gear rather than Halo.

hey i just made your comment 343
The Missions Bungie Left Behind is cooler
Fact from an old xbox magazine: that robot on Epitaph was going to be a boss fight at the end of the missing level, he was going to drop a turret like mega centinel beam, the structure of the level was like going through 3 or 4 "guardian map" estructures
I think it was going to be like guarding a door or an important forerunner structure, like the silent cartographer, imagine the covenant trying to access the building.
I’m very curious what else was going to be in Floodgate
Maybe it was a relatively open level set in the city itself (a bit like ODST?)
@@ItsButterBean1020
I heard that the cortana mission was originally going to be the second half of floodgate instead of it just ending after you enter the ship.
I knew something was always off about this mission because even though the map is the exact same size as "The Storm" I've beaten it in 4 minutes by just walking past everything. Unlike every other mission (except Sierra 117 but that's literally the first level) there is only one prompt/objective so I always thought it was rushed. Glad but slightly sad to know that my suspicions were correct.
just a random person he discussed that in the video lol
just a random person I’ve heard that too
That does admittedly make me wonder what Cortana could have been
this whole thing with high charity explains alot, i was always disappointed in the level cortana for not looking like high charity in halo 2, this also explains why chief doesnt get those visions of cortana during the ark or the covenant like he does in all the other levels shes not with him as she was originally supposed to be back in his head in those levels.
also rly sad all evidence of the other two levels is gone, a forerunner city and the guardian level are things id have loved to have seen
Im fine with this.
I Think 090_ was supposed to be the way that the UNSC and SoS find out where Truth is and it could have been the forerunner City
The large building at the end of The Covenant (which Truth is holed up in) was originally designed for the forerunner city too.
Hmm so it’s possible that it would have taken the role that the Cartographer in The Ark took?

I felt that halo 3 had every short campaign, you just proved my theory that no one realized.
I wish that the mission cortanana took place in some more memorable parts of high charity from halo 2.
and now you know why it didn't
it was supposed to. you would have fought infected versions of all the previous arbiters too
You could see some notable locations such as the mausoleum of the arbiter in the distance early in the mission.
All this time I thought one of the semi-redeeming qualities of 343 and H5 was their introduction of these cool and mysterious Guardian beings... come to realize it’s just a design cue and canon idea they lifted directly from Bungie and applied their odd hyper-clean Forerunner aesthetic on
Halo 3's guardian concept sounds way more cool than the guardian from halo 5
Where can you listen to that?
It looks way cooler, I don’t know why it wasn’t included in the video. You can easily find it on google images tho
Would it be possible to rebuild these levels, or at least bits and pieces? I'm wondering since who knows what could be possible once 343 releases better modding tools for MCC.
Maybe with a fan game yeah, but I don't think h3 has enough leftover pieces from those levels to do anything with
@@paydenjackson7156 Yes, but 343 has the Halo 2 Alpha/Beta builds as well as the Stencil Engine build and because they have that, Then they must have the Alpha/Beta Builds of Halo 3.
@@brecken19972 Cool, but that would require 343 to release those assets to the public, which they won't.
7:56 "Its possible this was going to be the Forerunner city level" then shows concept art for the multiplayer map High Ground.

That’s Halo reach bro
Bruised Browneye halo reach wasn’t out then, and if it was, i never had it till 2014
The pyramid sounds a lot like the control room you fight for in the last level just before you fight guilty spark.
It would be awesome to see some people (not necessarily you, but a group of dedicated people) try to put together these missing missions if we had the modding tools. Maybe some day decades in the future like the SPV3 mod for Halo 1.
Imagine if 343 just has all the files and decided to release finished versions of all the cut missions.
Cut campaign missions especially in H3 saddens me the most :(
I’m actually kind of surprised there’s quite a bit of cut content, considering how halo 2 was in development. I always suspected there was cut content. In chapter 5 (when you enter the flood ship) there’s an energy sword that’s pretty useless since you fight any enemies. You don’t even get to spawn with your previous weapons for the next mission.
I'm sorry but fighting gravemind in a destroyed scarab would have been the coolest shit ever, nice vid again man
Oh my god, yes. I would pay thousands of dollars just to see 2 minutes of that.

I would’ve loved to see a mission that was the idea for Guardian.
Continue doing God’s work my boi
I really love the smallish community that halo has. Makes it so youtubers can actually talk to their viewers
Well, that could be explained by the artificial gravity of High Charity itself.
Those flying birds on guardian are the same ones from H2 i think. Always found it odd it was the only map with them

GAH this is so COOL!
Im gunna be honest, I WANT THESE LEVELS SO BADLY THEY SOUND AWESOME
Ive always thought in Halo 3's story cortana being saved at the very end was a bad move.
2:56 - I'm never going to un-notice this now
Crazy to think just what Halo 3's campaign could have been like
Probably the reason why the plan to destroy the flood ship reactor was forgotten is because the shipmaster and his fleet showed up to do the job
Also you probably don't know how
@@thelonlypanda1 I mean, I've checked by now. There's nothing in the names that suggest anything and the only assets that are carried over that are kind of suspicious are left over from Halo 3 such as "flood_muffin".

Don't quote me as I heard this from a halo lore expert. Cut mission 090 was master chief and arbiter in a ground vehicle fighting along side elites in other ground vehicles busting through a flood blockade. It was a shorter mission but had a firefight component as you battled wave after wave of flood and had to stay in your vehicle.
someone, just anyone or people should bring back the cut content at least to the best ability
RejectedShotgun already has brought back the Guardian boss fight for 080 Forest Guardian. If enough modding tools are given by 343, we could have a Halo 3 extended campaign mod someday.
@@rootbeerfan1234 I- i know i hadn't seen the guardian thing till after i had made the comment
@Novashank I- i did
Speaking of cut content, have you ever noticed in the opening cutscene to the last level of Halo 3, that the Pelican suddenly acquires a smoking thruster and crushes, despite being totally fine in the previous shot?
And more to the point, there is no dialogue in the scene, and nobody mentions having just crashed and how that will effect the mission.
I think the original plan was to have a much longer final mission, maybe even pulling areas from AotCR in CE, but had to scrap it due to time. Then they added in the Pelican crash scene so they could move the mission start to where it is now, and decided not to get the voice actors back in to record new lines.
If they'd been able to keep all this stuff in, Halo 3's story might actually have been good.
The Forest Guardian map was probably really close to being done or was just cut because it served no purpose and made the campaign longer, hence why it was turned into a multiplayer map
While looking at 090, other sources say it had the internal name of Alpine.
Nothing in the universe is more fascinating than bungie's cut content from the halo games. Thank you for this you do Gods work.
I'm surprised you're not treating 'Cortana' as a cut level given what was released was a different level (Floodship) but renamed, more people should know about the cut mausoleum of the arbiter i.e chief fighting flood forms of the previous arbiters.
i wouldn't give a single fuck about the delay i'd rather have all the cut flood missions in the game than have it release in 2007
there's two things that remain from the guardian. One of them is actually confirmed, the hologram on epitaph is actually a guardian. The second thing is the towers on sandbox. They shoot lasers at you from a glowing eye, so, that might have been the guardian eye weapon at some point
A halo 3 mantis would be so cool. I also i didn't realise the mantis had art for halo 3, thank you 343 for adding it
7:50
I think I know what mission was suppose to take place after that.
It seems to match the description pretty well and you don't see any lasers that I'm aware of until after that level would've taken place.
good stuff man, the more cut content discovered the better.
Okay, but WHY ISN'T ANYONE ASKING MARTY?
Guardian was always one of my favorite Halo 3 maps, and I've tried (yet unsuccessful) to recreate it in every subsequent game... I am DEFINITELY designing a suedo-campaign map based off Guardian in Infinite... Thank you so much for revealing all this to us! You do great work, man! 😁
My guess, the mission 090 would have been something to the library, needing to find an index or some form of one to fire all the halo rings at once. Or something similar to that one flood mission from halo 2 where you had to race the humans to index only this time the roles are swapped.
I would love a complete series about cut campaing levels from Halo CE, Halo Reach, Halo 2, etc.
You are amazing for reading our comments! Thank you for your amazing content 👏🏻
So that's why Cortana suddenly stopped bothering you after Floodgate...
Miranda was like “yo did you guys destroy that ship?”
I can guess for 090 that if they come from a forest fighting a Guardian boss through to the objetive of disabling the barriers (where there's still a lot of green) of the Ark core then to entre the citadel, it could be 1 out of 2 options:
Bro the fact you went from the haunting minecraft role play to this is crazy.
Chief, arbiter, and scarab vs gravemind should be how the series ends
080 seems to be the most interesting mission in my opinion. If it looked like the multiplayer map, then it would probably be my favorite mission in the series.
Imagine a restoration mod! Wow, that's crazy that there was gonna be a mission that looks like the Guardian map. Neat.
Fighting the guardian to get the eye, and have that as a way of creating the Spartan laser would've been epic.
Some people should try and create fan made campaign levels if they have the resources to do it.
I like to think the Miranda dialogue in floodgate still fits as they didn't know Shipmaster would come along and glass half of Africa instead :)
13 years it took to learn this. God I wish these were completed.
their description of the guardian looks like the Halo teaser we had few years ago in the desert
I always found the guardian map interesting

Apparently 090 was a "Lost City" level following the boss battle in the forest guardian battle. I can't say this is 100% true, but i would check out the Bungie Restoration Project mod on Nexus for more.

It seems like these missions were very crucial in continuing the story into Halo 4 and 5
I always assumed chief was supposed to destroy the flood ship but when cortana was discovered that was deemed more important.
