Today the city is calm and a lot of people have gathered at the city market Mahane Yehuda. Everyone is doing their shopping and Shabbat is coming soon. The whole country will freeze in front of their televisions in anticipation of an exchange deal between the warring parties.

there are some walking videos on youtube showing gaza just before the war. not unlike jerusalem in that there are markets, streets of shops and pavements full of people going about their ordinary everyday business. except gaza was poorer. not shanty town poor. the roads were in good condition, there were 4 storey apartment blocks, plenty of cars, and shops full of goods. but poorer nontheless. if gaza had been allowed to flourish the people wd have made a rich society not unlike jerusalem
