@@xthebunny2128 I would recommend a plane that has long range anti ground missiles because during the escort phase you have to fly around the map to search for Sams and when you find them a long range missile helps destroy them before they can launch missiles at McKinney
4:02 you van actually see a reflection of all pilots leaving, and Trigger turning around on order. This is actually the only moment in the entire game, when we can see him while he's out od cockpit, without helmet.
Everyone’s talking about SAMs but that’s actually the easy part. Just look out at the world instead of relying only on HUD. The second part of the mission was really frustrating, though. Here’s how you beat this mission. SAMs target the Global 1 from all across the map so you have to be proactive. Fly in front of where the cargo plane is headed and look for missile trails to locate SAMs. They show up on your radar once you get close. Don’t fly too far away from the group because friendly AI is useless and you have to protect the target all by yourself. After the checkpoint allow the drone to fly by you and keep it in your attack range. Don’t let it close the distance between you or it will start circling behind you until time runs out. Instead fire missiles non stop while it’s in front of you. If it’s not down in the first two minutes you may as well restart from checkpoint. At least that was my experience flying MiG-29A on hard. Hope that helps.

Just played this. Finally beat out that single drone, then came in to try to meet up with Count and the colonel, just to end up smacking my plane right into the escort target and failing right there. I thought ‘Too close! Too close! Too cl-‘ *Boom*
Use a fast aircraft, skim over the upper half of the map, only pause to take out interceptors, and make sure you have a dogfighting loadout for your eventual fight with X AE A-12
The devs are pretty much prioritize players enjoyment and actions in this game. Basically mean making the players do more hard work and challenging gameplay to complete the missions. Making AIs useful and strong would mean making the game easier and may ruin the challenge.
Really need help with this one. I’ve tried every tactic in and off the books - I even found a picture of the map that marked where all the SAM sites were - but the fucker keeps going down. I’ve tried about 15 times now and I’ve given up.
It's odd. While Roper 1 got hit a fair bit when I played, I didn't have any problems clearing the first stage. Just watch the horizon for missile trails, or better still *proactively* scan the area in front.
Am I the only one who thinks this mission kinda has a shit design? Like, this is not something designed for you to be able to do first try, no matter how good you may be at this game and it's clear trial and error. The fact that you've been fighting sams since mission 2 and therefore go in with the notion that sams only lock on to a plane at about 2000m is played against you because now sams can magically target the objective from across the map. It's deliberately bait and switch, just feels scummy. It'd make way more sense imo if sam sites were scattered throughout the c-17's route and you had to react to them popping up before they can get a shot on the c-17, and make it so the c-17 can only take about 5 or so missiles, instead of making sams work from across the map for no reason and giving the c-17 a ridiculous hp pool that lets him take 50 missiles for no reason.

well i took the mig 31 head on, hoping to get atleast one of them, then i start chasing the off, if i chase them to far, i go straight back to mckinsey. facing the other squadron and start firing missile as soon as i have a lock on, thats why im using sasm with f15
This mission is annoyingly difficult, because Count does jack all while escorting commander jackofstan. Unfortunately, i made it to the second half to fight the drone...while having ground attack missiles on my SU 33 M2
I cannot beat this. My wingman does nothing and I have to fly around with the f18e finding hidden Sam’s and then flying across the map to take down fighters. Wtf man
I struggled with this mission the 1st half was fine but shooting down the unknown drone is where i struggled most i used the hyper speed missile's but only shot him 3 times (takes 4 or 5) to kill i think but the point is to shoot him down with machine gun fire it seems

I seen someone here saying even with the guide/photo the commander still goes down. You have to go in a certain pathway like down, left up then right and finish the last SAM in the middle. This is because the commander goes in a specific pathway himself and you must haul ass and take care of them ahead of time. After they’re all done, doing it this way the commander will not have nearly as much damage so when you go and protect him from the two UAV’s from the other sides of the map you can take them out much quicker and he can take a few more shots without going down. The last part tho does require skill, you just gotta be good at the game man and know how to strategize
I just got the game, and hell, this mission alongside with 6 and 8 are pain to beat. Looks like bad level designs and friendly AIs are pretty much useless. Haven't beaten 10 yet
I destroy so many sam sites but there always seem to be more firing at roper 1. Mine seems way harder to complete Unless this is recorded on easy or something.
I've played normal and hard mode so far and this mission calls for a specific loadout and strategy: fast planes, fly 100 feet over the ground, don't return to the escort, follow the smoke trails given off by the SAMs. No ground attack weapons because you have to fight X AE A-12
I was certain that this mission would end with us shooting Mckinsey down. Like we get a mission update he is actually a traitor or something and then we could go after him. I still wish we could have shot him out of the sky that would have been so fun. Missed opportunity.

This mission really isn't that bad. It just jars people foming into it from the previous levels, who are used to having everything appear on their radar. (Golem 1 even says so in Mission 2)

QAAM or just spamming missile, after they checkpoint, just restart at the checkpoint, it will reset all your aircraft status and replenishes missiles and SPW
for my case, the difficult one is on the second stint, where the drone appeared just fly low and start scouring for camo SAMs. when the first fighter intercept, have the map on full scale. you can calculate how long you have before the fighter start shooting at the cargo, you can decide either keep hunting down SAMs or intercept the enemy. and also remember the position of the SAMs, they remain the same on any difficulties. and also try to destroy the SAMs on one go, so you can keep the pace up, and also when intercepting the enemy fighter you can start shooting at them as soon as you have a lock. just so the scramble their formation, so they dont fly straight to the cargo when the 2 squadron appeared from the left and right. i usually try to take the mig 31s first, they are very fast interceptor. just try to kill them head on, atleast take one of them out, 2 special missiles would do, or one SPW and 1 missile, theyre though SOB. then try chase them off, if you chase them off to far, go head straight back to mckinsey, provide support. fire as soon as you have a lock on. atleast that works for me

Literally killed the drone with 1 second left and still failed the mission because the death animation takes like 5 seconds

You're kind of limited in what you can do. When I played the first two games (they don't have the option), I found myself missing being able to roll.
