    2 things:
    - This prompted me to finally buy this!
    - I saw someone complaining about your intro - I love your channel, and love your intro. It’s a great way of acknowledging people who are maybe having a rough time. Keep up the fantastic work!

For me, simple mechanics and a focus on narrative is the sweet-spot. The damage system is fascinating in that implications of being damaged can be across a spectrum of positive to negative outcomes.

    Simplicity.
    I like it.
    Narration driven.
    I like it.
    Co-op or solo.
    I like that.
A lot of freedom to the player.
    I really like that.
The game looks like a good purchase choice.

Awesome, thanks for covering this! Missed this on the radar, but it seems so great. The simplicity of the rules, make this really accessible and hackable! the marrying of RPG and skirmish is what really interests me. Would love to see more vids using your solo rpg toolkit with these kind of light skirmish games. Recommend having a look at Sword Weirdo - caught my attention recently. Cheers!

The shock-table roll is very similar to Space Weirdos, another very simple (cheap) skirmish game.

I like your attitude towards skirmish gaming. I don’t have much stuff either (except my massive standee collection from League of Dungeoneers. Huzzah!) and yes you can still have a great time without a large collection of minis and 3D terrain. I don’t think you could ever separate out miniature modelling from the hobby though. People are very passionate about it.
I’d be interested to know your thoughts on “Warlord Ascendant” by Alex T. (Blackoath). Another interesting new minis agnostic skirmish game.

I don't mind using existing figures, standies, card-board counters, paper terrain for my games. However I've read so many times in different forums people hold up gameplay for weeks/months until they have the exact type or painted minis and terrain to use. If you're into other rules that have an emphasis on generating a narrative with simple combat rules you might want to check out rules by Two Hour Wargames.

  • @miked5394

The skirmish games that are coming out are great - I think they've realized just how many people play solo or want random scenario generators. I like some of the older stuff as well (Dracula's America, Last Days) but I don't think it's as geared for solo play. So happy these are getting more popular. I just picked up Fistful of Lead - Fantasy and Reloaded, along with Warrior Heroes - Adventures in Talomir but I haven't had a chance to sit down with them. There's just so many awesome games to play with any number of really unique themes. I do think you're right - the simplicity of play really makes this one a standout and a great place to start.

@TheDungeonDive It definitely tilts more into "classic" war gaming than something like The Doomed, but that's also what's so cool (to me) - the wide variety of rule sets really allow you to fine-tune the level of detail you want. To me, Nightwatch, Rangers of Shadow Deep and 5 Leagues from the Borderlands offer the same general fantasy experience but on a spectrum of complexity. I know everyone thinks we're in a golden age of board gaming, but I also think the miniature agnostic rule set age is having a bit of a moment as well. :)

I'm really digging The Doomed. There's so much unpredictability from one scenario to the next. The one stat system is a breath of fresh air. The ONLY thing I do not like is the choice of the narrow font used in the text. My old eyes strain on it quite a bit.

I really like the doomed 6ish games in solo, few horrors and battles get a bit much solo but not overly so, similar game is blood and bone the nightwatch. The Doomed might be the 1st game I complete a campaign on! Also using all fantasy figures just imagining wands and staffs as guns

    • @TheDungeonDive
