- T-SQUARE is a Japanese jazz fusion band formed in 1976. They became famous in the late 1970s and early 1980s along with other Japanese jazz bands. They are known for songs such as "Truth", "Japanese Soul Brothers", "Takarajima", "Omens of Love", among others.
CASIOPEA is a Japanese jazz fusion band formed in 1976 by guitarist Issei Noro, bassist Tetsuo Sakurai, drummer Tohru "Rika" Suzuki, and keyboardist Hidehiko Koike. In 1977, keyboardist Minoru Mukaiya and drummer Takashi Sasaki joined, replacing Koike and Suzuki.

ほんとにすごいのは、二人のドラムがそれぞれのソロ以外同じフレーズを同時に一人が叩いているかのように叩いていること。

These guys are very underrated and super talented! They both are beautiful bands who’ve composed amazing songs.
"FIGHTMAN"のCASIOPEAオリジナル曲ではギターとベースのスラップ奏法バトルが2小節×2回だったんだけど、ライブを重ねていくうちに4小節×楽器数(基本はドラムス→ベース→キーボード→ギター→ゲストのいる日の使用楽器の順番)→2小節×楽器数→1小節×楽器数×2というソロバトルスタイルが確立されていったんだよね。
2003年に行われた通称"カシスクライブ"は演奏者が10人だったんで通算80小節がこのソロバトルに充てられたわけだけど、東京公演2日間観てきたんで1日目と2日目の違いも生で堪能できましたよ。

流石に世界的に多くのファンを持つ２大フュージョンバンドの共演は、隙の無いビシビシ感で！全メンバーの演奏能力が凄いんです。この流れでカシオペアの単独ライヴの動画もリアクトして貰えると嬉しいです。演奏も凄いけど、音楽を真から楽しんでる雰囲気が伝わって来ますよ！
あの伝説のライブ。何回聴いてもワクワクですよ。たまらんですわ。

本田雅人さんはT-SQUAREの2代目フロントマン(伊東さんが一時期バンドから脱退した時の代わりに)的存在でCOWBOYBEBOPの
名が挙がりましたがこのアニメのオープニング曲でSAXを演奏してます。

Now you can check out Japanese jazz fusion music, too. As a jazz fusion lover in this period, I am very happy. The musicians here are truly Japan's top notch musicians in the jazz fusion scene, but honestry, I guess I really don't like T-Square or Cassiopeia much...anyway, again the individual musicians are really Japan's top notch ones. These are my two favorite jazz fusion bands
the one you saw in Truth clip is actually Masato Honda, who replaced Itoh in the 90s, also played Tank in cowboy bebop. Itoh came back in 2000s, when most likely this video's made.

I think, T-square is an interesting mixture of classical jazz or easy listening new age style(keyboard), pentatonic-fast playing rock(guitar) and Marcus Miller Style fusion jazz(bass), while Casiopea rather has built up their own genres, which I do appreciate but is not really my cup of tea. Both are incredible in terms of their techniques, but melodies just sound like easy listening, not more than pop instrumental for background music for TV programs.
Casiopea is way more out there, I agree.

Kawano, the keyboard player who arranged for this live (Burn part of Deep Purple) suffered a stroke and retired from playing music. (He can no longer play, but is concentrating on composing.)
And IZUMI, who played the piano, passed away last spring.
God is cruel.
