This is something I thing shee needed to do for ages. She's an adult and can stick up for her self verbally, but she's deff at a huge disadvantage physically when posed with a threat. But even smaller stature people can become competent fighters and defend themselves
True, but some random self defence class isn't going to make her competent in anything. She needs to do something like jiu jitsu and boxing to be any kind of effective. Though she's so small I'm not sure that would even help too much. She should just conceal carry.

@@deadlyjoz8761 she's not only in danger from big men. The guy she dated Thomas was like barely a few inches taller than her. She will encounter a ton of different sized people in her life and should know the basics. I mean hell, with her attitude she might piss off a middle schooler and have to defend herself (though with that age difference she'd probably be the one who gets in trouble lol) but I know what you mean, a big grown person could literally kick her across the room. But if she manages to get a groin shot in, or if an assailant picks her up she's at the perfect height to kick someone in the throat cause she's so tiny. There are definitely ways. A student in a class I took was around 4'2" and was a boss. Though she didn't have the muscle issues Shauna does and was still regular adult strength just tiny
If she's not going to buy a weapon, then her only hope in hell is attacking the balls lmao - she probably couldn't reach and certainly not get enough leverage to properly target the eyes/neck/etc. so her entire curriculum should be based around the testicles, in my opinion... *shrug*

Even if she was a black belt in karate, she wouldn’t be able to defeat an attacker by any means. Her best self defense would have a handgun on her at all times.

@@williampoole1742 She could easily handle a pistol chambered in .22LR. I had one when I was about 7 or 8 years old. She could probably handle a 9mm as well if it`s something with a small grip and has a single stacked, 5 round mag. Owning a gun is by far the best thing she can do if she wants to be independent and live like an adult.

@@williampoole1742 Actual 8 year olds who are about the same size and weight as Shauna can shoot 9mm parabellum easily enough, there's various videos on youtube of it.
I have 3 kids, my middle being 8. Shauna's height my be similar but looking at her you can absolutely tell she's not 8 years old and that's before actually talking to her.

I think a lot of people look at Shauna and just see her as her height, and as the age that is typically associated with her height because they do not have the capacity to see beyond that...

For someone dead set on proving to the world she is a grown up woman Shauna acts an awful lot like an immature teen/ child. She didn’t even put in a single serious attempt at the initial self defense lesson while claiming that she was supposedly interested in pursuing SD further. The instructor said they were in greatest position to help themselves by screaming along with their physical attack and she didn’t even bother to pretend to scream let alone just flat out scream. Giggling and swaying around then half heartedly jabbing at her sister holding the target and declaring she is not physically able to scream which is a silly untrue and childish statement on her part. She is the more vulnerable person in the group and the babying of her family is definitely not doing her any favors and in a real altercation is going to really hinder her ability to respond confidently and calmly enough to actually apply the lesson she has gone out of her way to dismiss from the jump… just my interpretation of her behavior (also supported by the many clips I’ve seen of her and her family navigating her unique status in other real world situations) 😅
If you put active resistance against her (IE a real grown man trying to wrestle her to the ground) she is the type of person to huff and puff and give up. Which is what she would do in real life. Her best case scenario in that situation would be her living to claim being victimized (which I suspect is all she really wants). Worst case scenario she would be someone's play thing tied up in a basement until buried alive after they got bored of her.
I agree it's like we all could be lied to that she's "23" it's just such a weird show, weird approach for entertainment and weird all around. TLC wil do anything for a show and money.
I agree, but I think part of the issue is her parents treat her like a child, probably always have. That definitely doesn't help her grow mentally. She still has grown views on things and opinions though and does act grown sometimes. But I agree that if she doesn't want to be considered a child that she should act more mature
Doesn't really matter how serious she treats this self defence class. She's so small I could scoop her up with one arm and still be able to run away, though I do lift a lot. She wouldn't be able to reach any of my sensitive areas with her short ass limbs. If someone wants to take shuana It's going to be no problem. Her only chance is to carry a handgun. In fact I think she has an advantage. If someone tried to take her they would underestimate her and probably give her plenty of time to pull out her piece and wreak havoc.

Can I say I hate the dynamic. The parents feel as if they can’t say a word against her because cameras are always rolling and she can act the way way she can and blame it on her condition. While it is a a shame she has to deal with what she is going through she shouldn’t have to make everyone feel bad and give her what she wants because of it. She seems as if she should get a pass instead of giving us a chance to see how she like the rest and treat her accordingly

It's sad that when these kids grow up to be mature adults. They look back and see that what they thought they were isn't know where to be. An for some of them they physically can't go back to who their true self is. Let the children be children and for the other adults to leave them alone. This plays a very big part in their suicide rate skyrocketing. So stop pushing them on what you want and let them be children.

I think they gave her a crappy job of reassuring her that they wouldn’t do anything to seem upset about her coming out. They needed them to show her love and acceptance. Maybe she wouldn’t have had that big burden on her

At 3'10",and probably barely weighs 80lbs how much can she really defend herself. Self defense is cool, but they really need to be taking a concealed and carry class, that would be much more useful.

Real instructor would say ... in self defense you have to be realistic .... if someone attack you being 5 times your size (not to mention the normal disadvantage of being most likely a man ), you better just do nothing and wait for the best .... she can have the skills of any martial art world champion and she would be destroyed by any guy .
I'm thinking with her love of dogs, a well trained guard dog may be her best first defence. He'd need to be absolutely responsive to voice commands since she wouldn't be able to physically manhandle a revved up dog.
Followed by a weapon. *But, imo, not a weapon as her first defense, as that can be easily taken from her and turned on her without the dog keeping the assailant occupied.

Whilst there are disadvantages of being small in self defence there is always advantages. Some Judo training will help her understand and use the opponent's weight size and speed against themselves, all in all the best form of any self defence is escape to gain safety.

As someone who has proven to people in the past that those self defense techniques are 99% useless, I really hate how these "schools" of self defense try to prepare these women to defend themselves by arming them with a false sense of over confidence.
The only way someone who is at that much of a disadvantage is going to have a chance in a real life situation is to be armed with a weapon of some sort. A knife is usually the best, neck whips, sharp rings, or self defense pens are also useful, guns also can be useful but they are a larger risk to others as well. Even something as simple as a powder of some kind in a small pouch such as, flour, talc, cement, masons Lyme, or even black pepper, dirt or sand to throw in their face, temporarily blinding them along with irritating their lungs. The dirtier and more violent you fight, the better your chances are.
If you are going to hit someone in the face, don't punch with a closed fist if you are that much smaller, use your fingers to stab the eyes. Grabbing someone by the balls is another good way to hand yourself to the attacker. You are placing yourself in front of him and putting your head in easy reach with only 1 hand free to defend yourself as well as many other things I can point out with common techniques they teach that are completely ineffective or just plain risky to try.
