He inspires me with the ache to write, and he is one of the sweetest gentlemen I have ever met. A brilliant writer, a fabulous man!

The blue rose trilogy would be outstanding as a series (like Stranger Things or Haunting of Hill House). That’s some of the best fiction I’ve ever read.

I like the characters in 'Koko'. They felt very real to me. I have yet to read the other two books of the trilogy.

@@rodneyadderton1077 Koko is a masterpiece. Can't say I cared much for Mystery, as it has an untrue ring about it. The Throat is overlong, but has its moments - it's a sequel of sorts to the harrowing short story "Bunny is Good Bread". Tim Underhill makes a return in Lost Boy, Lost Girl. I have now read eight Straub books and will certainly seek out what's left.

Incredibly talented author, and just an all around very fine gentleman. I obviously don't know the nature or severity of the medical issues that you're facing, but our (my family and I) thoughts and prayers are with you always and especially during your time of need !!! Hoping to hear some good news re: your medical situation very soon !!! Take care buddy !!!

Really an amazing interview. The kind you'd listen to again when the writing laziness strikes, it felt true. The part where you say that you need to have a friend that understand what you do is, in part, accomplished by listening to this. It's really ... satisfying? To know other writers do get to that "other place" to write. I felt less crazy a bit. ;)
    Thank you Peter Straub.

Love his final thoughts on the nature of the horror genre and its relationship to general literary fiction.

I now want to know what happened to the 3rd collaboration with King. Here it really seemed to be happening.

I have finally ordered my copy of A DARK MATTER and really look forward to reading it. Mr. Straub is an American treasure. His two-volume AMERICAN FANTASTIC TALES from Library of American is a stunning anthology of great weird fiction, highly recommended!

I am sad that he thinks they probably won't remake Ghost Story. Such great potential to be an amazing film.

It's easy to see how him and Stephen King got along so well. They even have the same inflections in their speech.

I have a completely fallacious point to make but could be true at a certain level.Peter
Straub states that the character "Eel" in Dark Matter is based on a Lee Boudreaux.
I feel it could also be based on the character Emily Proctor plays in Miami CSI. Her screen name is
Cally Du quesne. In the sixties E.E.Doc Smith based his sci fi series on
"Skylark" Duquesne. This is because at the end of the novel he calls Lee
    Truax skylark.

I know the story he talks about where the murderer sent letters to the parents of the children he killed then told them how they tasted. He was caught when his last victim he murdered the one she was a Virgin, he put his own name at the bottom. I believe he had killed 6 or 7 children and he was hung to death after his trial. Terrible true story. There is a video on you tube with the story.
