- This is the very first episode of A Handwoven Experience! In this video, the topic is yarn - specifically, the various formats. I'll explain why weavers and knitters are looking for different things in their yarn. Plus, I will give beginning weavers an idea of where to look for appropriate yarn to get started. Enjoy!

Dressing my first loom as we speak.
That's very exciting!!
I just found your channel 😃 I’m a new weaver, very new, and I think I will plow through your videos in no time. Thank you 🙏🏼
Susan, I'm so glad!! Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions! I'm happy to help!!
Great info, Thanks so much. 😊
It's my pleasure! Thank you for the compliment!
Thanks!
You're so welcome! I'm glad it was helpful!
If you find yourself in the Indianapolis area, Tabby Tree Weaver in Fishers is a delightful little shop.
Yes, it is!! I've been there before, but it's been awhile! Thank you for the reminder!!
So informative! I knew you put a lot of time and effort into your beautiful handbags and creations, but never thought about the importance of the types of yarns or the considerations of how much yield a ball or skein would have. Love it!
Thanks, my friend! I appreciate the comment!!
Hi, so nice to see a video talking about yarn for weavers.
How do you know what types of yarn would be suitable for warp given that you can’t do a snap test of yarn in a shop or on the internet. I know that acrylic and cotton are fine but what about different types of wool? Is it just try it and see ? Any pointers would be a great help. 🤞
Hi Avril! Typically, wool is a good fiber for a warp! If you have something in mind, but aren't sure about whether it's suitable for a warp, you can always call a weaving store to ask! You're welcome to use my local weaving store, Three Moons Fiberworks, if you don't have one near you! Rebecca is a wealth of knowledge!
I recently found your channel…and am new to weaving for the most part. I have come back to watch your videos in order. I have my warp ready to put on my loom and am nervous to do it. Can you recommend a video that will walk me through it?
Hi! Welcome to weaving! You're going to love it!
While I don't have a single episode documenting the entire dressing the loom process, episodes 5-11 give a great overview! Hope that helps!
so i'm sitting here spinning this super short staple 'cotton stuffing' mostly because it's super cheap and great for chops, however, lately it's to calm my rage at stores in my state for not carrying anything close to weaving weight yarns. my brain ignites with thoughts of splitting all the peaches and cream cotton 4 ply yarn into 2ply balls. i hate buying online, my eyes don't work right and i can't tell what characteristics a yarn has!
That's sounds so frustrating! I'm so sorry!! You're welcome to borrow my local weaving store, Three Moons Fiberworks. Rebecca is fabulous and will help pair you with a great product! I hope that helps! If there's anything else I can do, let me know!
What weaving stores are there in Chicago?
@@ravendreaming3966 I live right outside of Chicago and my favorite is Three Moons Fiberworks. It's a fiber wonderland!
@@ActonCreative It doesn't look like I can get there by public transportation :/
@@ravendreaming3966 You can try TLD Design Center in the suburbs? She has 2 locations. That might be easier.
I do find it ironic that while talking about yarn for weaving, you’re wearing a knit.
Perhaps you should meet in the middle and try a punchcard knitting machine.
Ha! Great point! What you can't see is the blue jeans I'm wearing - that were woven!
Where's the irony? I'm watching a weaving video while doing macrame. I hope that's not breaking one of your rules!
