The best part of these videos - although I love gear too, is hearing these guys play!!

If you watch the Monterey Pop Festival film you'll see that a lot of the San Francisco acid rock bands used SGs and even EB basses. Famously, John Cipollina of Quicksilver Messenger Service used an SG and its whammy bar for his vibrato, giving him a distinctive style.. And then Zappa, Santana, Robby Krieger, Peter Townshend, Angus Young...etc.

15:29 Fun fact: Gary Moore bought his SG specially for that video project with Jack Bruce, so he could nail the Clapton/Cream thing
BBM “Around the Next Dream” is a superb album and the expanded CD has some great bonus live tracks

Both guitarist in Big Brother played SG‘s. Also George Harrison had one, early Carlos Santana. Jerry Garcia, Tony Iomi. Allot of those guys played the juniors with the p90’s. I know iomi, Robbie Krieger, 1 of the big brothers did.

Really interesting, those naturally worned old guitars have character.. Btw those Bigby systems are cool on Les Paul and Gretsch but without roller saddles or previously filing the saddles to round the edges, it will get a guitar out of tune really fast..

You’ve got me there. I real,y am not keen on them. Some people like their design or even function, but they’re not my favourites so I prefer guitars that are at least stopped off if not without. Bigsbys do add some movement to the sound of Gretsches, and Strat and Floyd trems work better.

Clapton, like you wasn't a trem bar user but as we all konw loved and more or less converted to the Strat ..So as you probably know, he barred the spring system in the back with a block of wood to convert it more or less like a fixed bridge.. As I mentioned, to file the saddles in order to round the edges and to lube them with pencil dust or some kind of oil like sewing machine are simple hacks to minimise friction and avoid tuning issues with those trem systems..@@thebobandramonshow

Terry Kath used a white SG with CTA, at the Fillmore East show. I believe it was their first appearance. This was the only band at the 50 some odd shows I saw at the Fillmore in Greenwhich Village that was way too loud.

Robben Ford put a performance up on his channel recently "Live 6º Festival of Blues and Jazz." He gets a tone out of an SG I've never heard anyone get before. Very mellow and sweet, rather than sharp and cutting, which I normally associate with SGs.

Touché! These recent, and the next couple, of shows were shot back to back during a single visit. We’ll be getting some new clobber out of the washing machine very soon though.

Fun fact: Gary Moore borrowed Bernie Marsden’s SG when Greeny was damaged on the road.

Thanks. Less fun fact - I wasn’t impressed by The Beast when I played it recently. I certainly wouldn’t swap it for mine.

@@thebobandramonshow What a great experience to play it, though :) Bernie said it was very loud. It goes to show how guitars are very individual - a guitar might be considered great but not be ‘right’ for everyone.
