I would argue M. Fitzpatrick is the DPOY all day! He turned the Steelers season completely around. But I see your argument in a way bc the Steelers defensive core helped. I mean when you have T.J.Watt, D. Bush J. Hayden the list goes on. Yeah that allowed M. Fitzpatrick to play free/loose but he was the piece they were missing! And to me that makes him the MVP of the Steelers as well as the league.
I'm a Raiders Fan and when Johnathan Abram went down for the season after Gm1.. Then hear the Dolphins are shopping M. Fitzpatrick for a 1rst which actually turned out to be a 1rst, 4th & 6th I believe. But anyways I wanted the Raiders to trade for him bc I knew if nothing else we could get that same value back out of him later. Plus he's on a steal of a contract being the Dolphins had already paid him most of the money.
And last but not least Derek Carr is extremely talented! He has played in every offense their is since being Drafted.🤣 He's had 4 different head coaches in 6 seasons one being an interim Head Coach. But they should have kept Amari Cooper or need to find another 1. He needs that guy, the guy that can make a play when they need it and consistently. Tyrell Williams isn't a Posession Receiver hes a deep threat #2WR Crabtree was a Posession WR.
Amari was a #1 WR that always has huge games but would disappear quite a few games a year. I think Cooper got frustrated with Oakland once they brought in Jared Cook TBH. Amari was getting 100+ balls in college, he was their MJ. But once Cook came and having Crab he wasn't seeing the ball no where near as much. I think he was frustrated, bored, and became uninterested. I wish the Raiders never signed Cook bc of that reason alone.

That was a fantastic interview. I could've listened to more of Howie's stories from the questions that were asked for easily another hour. Chris asked a bunch of things that you would ask Howie if you were sitting at a bar having a few drinks with him. Chris, if you're reading this and the next time you have your Dad on, I would love to get his thoughts on those 80's/early 90's teams he played on. As a huge Raider fan, I would love to hear Howie's thoughts on those Raider teams that were loaded with talent, but suffered at the QB position after Plunkett retired. Did he get frustrated with the likes of Marc Wilson or Jay Schroeder at the helm and does he feel he and his team should’ve had a couple more titles? That ‘85 team that was destined to meet the Bears, but didn't because of lackluster QB play along with those other years. Also if that story was true about the NFL nixing the trade the Raiders supposedly had made for Elway, that changed everything if true. The Raiders would've been a dynasty if that ever happened. Again, great interview Chris.

Just took me back to spending time with my Dad, talking football, and how his Niners were doing. Being the lone Raider fan in my immediate family, I'm sure he questioned if he brought the right kid home from the hospital. I lost him 18 years ago last Friday to cancer, and I so felt like we were watching this together. Thanks y'all! Seriously! This has to be my favorite podcast yet. People get so caught up watching Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, and Aaron Rogers but fail to realize the system and process it takes. QBs don't grow on trees, DC is resilient for having to learn different systems and having so many WRs come and go through the revolving door. I completely agree with you, Josh Jacobs is also going to help take pressure off of Carr with his running game once again in 2020. RN4L!

Regarding the NFL Hall of Fame, I don't use that as criteria for a great performer on or off the field. Just knowing what a player brought to the game and gave, tells me what I need to know. There are a number of players from the Raiders (and others) that gave above and beyond.
I wish I personally knew Al Davis. As a fan, I can't comprehend all that he was. I find it hard to believe anyone has ever known as much about the game as he did. You can do far more great things than anyone can do, but it doesn't mean you're the nicest guy in town. That I understand.

Don't feel bad for Oakland. As a lifelong Oakland Raiders fan, born and raised, as long as the City didn't spend one more tax dollar, I'm fine with them leaving. We still owe the Raiders money, when they returned from L.A. The league is beyond greedy. They should be building stadiums for the cities who helped them achieve the astronomical revenue they bring in currently. Granted, the city wouldnt receive the revenue that is generated, but, teams won't lose their fan bases they've grown organically. Watching the Raiders vs. the Chargers was disheartening to see that stadium in a sea of Black&Silver, had to make the Chargers players feel some type of way.
Quick Lyle Alzado story... when the Raiders were going to play the Eagles in the Superbowl, me and my crew cut school to go to Oakland International to see the team off. So they have the airport cordoned off, picture red carpet style, anyway, they have it where the fans are on both sides and the team walks through us heading towards their gate. Lyle Alzado comes through on my side so I stick my hand out to shake my hand, and, unbeknownst to me my buddy, Gary Walker, has his hand out as well. This man's hands were so large that he shook both our hands at the same time and busted open my friends stitches, he had recently received! One of the most notorious legends of the NFL.

Howie is probably my all time favorite football player and I think he would have been even if I wasn't a Raider fan. Having lived in New England my whole life I always hoped the Pats would do well and was happy to see Chris in a Patriots uniform even if only for a year...though silver and black would've looked better. When Chris won the Walter Payton award and I saw the work his foundation does I was more impressed by that than the play on the field, super bowl rings, etc. I really respect people that think of others and use their platform to do what they can to help. Way to go.

I like the guy but he's not worth the money he's making if he's just going to be check down king. I miss the guy that looked like a young Brett Favre... like a gunslinger. I don't know if it's Grudens system or ghosts in the pocket but he hasn't looked like a 20 mil franchise QB.

DoppelCooper wait till they get the receivers that can get down field, Mayock and Gruden have both said it’s a area that needs to be addressed.

RN4L! This organization has such great history and Howie seems like an awesome dude.
Love or hate Carr we all just wanna see this team win, so I'm glad we're not bickering in these comments haha 😁

You should of asked Howie Long how he felt about almost being traded to the Bears for the John Elway draft pick in 1983.

Saw these guys at Sabo's bar in Big Fork Montana circa 1995. Slow summer weekday lunchtime. Chris was probably about 6 or 7 at the time. Was sitting a couple tables away. Howie orders "four chicken sandwiches hold the mayo". He inhaled them and proceeded to helping the young ones finish their pizza.
