I agree with many of the commentators. I was stuck for a while after guess 4. I started with Eight, Spray, eval with Cloud, then an odd word Baulk. I knew the a was in the first or last position. After 2 cups of coffee, I saw Uvula.
Oh my gosh! You had me laughing, Doug. 😅 1962- Barney Fife-“All God’s children have a uvula.” 1976-Gilda Radnor and Chevy Chase-“Bab’s Uvula”. It’s just that kind of a word. After stare and doily, I spent quite a while moving that “A” around and trying to figure out if there was a “U”. I had the same reaction. “No! It can’t be.” But it was. So a “3” for me today. stAre- doiLy- UVULA
the toughest word so far for me. The only reason I got it was because I did have the 2 U's in the correct spot and I had the L and the A. I knew the A had to be the last letter and the L in the second or fourth spot. I finally went thru all the remaining letters and put them in the second spot with the L in the fourth spot and came up with UVULA. NOISE...CHARM...PATTY...USUAL...This word is what gave me the U's in the correct spot the A and the L in the wrong spots but The A had to be the last letter. From there is was just a matter of eliminating the remaining letters of which by now, there were just a few left. See you all tomorrow.
BOAST, LADEN, AMPLY, VILLA, UVULA. I got Uvula in 2 seconds after taking 2 minutes on AMPLY and forever on VILLA. Kept thinking of BULLA but thought it too medical. Then went with the Anatomical UVULA.
Both a difficult and frustrating day today with Wordle. After my third guess, I simply could not find another word for guess #4, so I went with an eval, and ended up with the solution on guess #5. LEARN ("L" and "A", both out of position.) TIDAL ("L" and "A", still out of position.) CAULK ("U" and "L" in position, "A" still out of position.) ANNOY (eval word--- "A" still out of position. No "O" or "Y" in the solution, and only one "A" in the 5th position.) UVULA (Bingo!! Got it on the 5th guess.... Are the words getting harder? My 2nd 5-word solve in a row.)
I just learned the NY Times WORDLE doesn't use standard plurals like ALUMS (or -ES plurals or 3rd person conjugations) or standard -ED past tense. But it DOES use non standard like FUNGI or SLEPT. Other Wordle programs sometimes do.
This might have been the toughest one yet. Took me over 30 mins to find an actual word to try on guess 6. Tried all sorts of combinations before finally seeing Uvula.
Finally got it on the fifth try. I actually don't have an uvula. It rotted out after I had tonsillitis for the sixth time in one year! This was a tough one!
@@Lance-Run Not surprising. It's not a word you think of very often. I almost gave up on it myself since I couldn't seem to find a word that was in the word list for such a long time.
STEAL, LAUGH, UVULA. The "al" at the end and "la" at the beginning were confusing me with yellow tiles. When I got the "u" green tile I thanked my Anatomy & Latin professors back in the day. Uvula is latin for "little grape." Surprised it's a Wordle word though. Oh well.
Funny, I'm 68. I always remember the original Saturday night live skit with Chevy Chase and Roseanne Roseannadanna. The line was " It'll behove ya to care for your Uvula". Sounds weird, but that skit helped me get this puzzle in 5.
How I solved it was almost the same as yesterday: After four starting words, I only got green U (second one) and L and a yellow A. I tried the AxULx combination which led me nowhere so I changed it to xxULA. Only one word was possible: UVULA.
Just could not put a word in after guess 3 ended up chucking in SWARM just to use any good remaining consonants, eventually after about 30 minutes UVULA appeared EIGHT - BOUND - CAULK - SWARM - UVULA
STARE gave me the A out of position. DOILY gave me the L in green. I immediately assumed it was going to be xAULx but couldn't quickly find one that worked (caulk was a previous solution). And I couldn't think of what would follow the L at the end of a word. xxxLL didn't make sense without the A in the third position. Eventually I just went for my favorite next eval word, CHUNK. That gave me xxULx, which further suggested the A would be second. As I began my painstaking task of checking every combination with xAULx, it dawned on me that there was an answer that had the A in the final spot rather than the second. It was tricky enough to stump people, I thought. After my xAULx efforts yielded nothing, I figured UVULA was worth a shot. Happy with the par four on such a tricky word.
Audio, usage, urban, uvula. I know just enough anatomy to be dangerous. I won't even watch medical shows on TV (makes me queasy). Edit: Doug, that was impressive. You had less to work with than I did.
PATCH SHADE RIVAL VULVA UVULA -Say what you will, but according to Wordlebot VULVA was the 2nd most common guess for the fourth round, and for me, at least, not only did it directly position the A, it indirectly told me where three other letters had to go, which pretty much forced a word I've really only ever heard used on a really old SNL sketch ("Bab's Uvula", one of the most pointless, random things they ever did). Other than that, one of the only places I've ever heard the uvula even referenced is when it is described, although not directly named, in the Cardi B. song WAP, so..., there's that.

At first, I was unhappy that my second guess was a no-chance-to-win, reusing the E. And where my third guess came from, I don't know. OCTAD, SUAVE gave me the a,u and v out of position with no e, s,or t in play. Lots of puzzling and swopping letters about and I do admit to a Google search for valid words containing the three letters I had, then pen and paper came out and so I narrowed it down to the solution UVULA. Was that cheating? I know some purists (or others too) will say yes. I think this may break a few streaks (mine is currently on a paltry 11). I guess it depends why you play - for the streak, for entertainment (or today to learn how to handle frustration!) or to learn new words. I am comfortable in my play and await any admonishments....😊
