Tagore was always fond of Baul-Fakirs and he also addresses as ‘Rabi Baul’. When he used to visit or stay at their Estate at Silaidaha (presently in Bangladesh), he came in contact with many Bauls and the essence of their Sadhana is reflected in his many writings. He wrote, “in search of ‘Man of the Heart’ on the deep lonely path, I am the poet of their group, I am marginal, debarred, I have no mantra, no religion...”. Rabindranath realized that a human being is neither the God nor a mere animal but a combination as Manav-Bramha. Afterward, Tagore shifted to Shantiniketan which is in Birbhum district of West Bengal, that district is the headquarter and widely popular as the District of Baul-Fakirs.
