Mahsa Amini: A year on from death - did protests change Iran?

  • It's a year since 22-year-old Mahsa Amini was arrested by Iran's morality police on the streets of Iran.
Within days she was dead - her family said she'd been beaten in custody.
Her death ignited a wave of women-led protests that shook Iran, posing the biggest threat the regime has faced in almost half a century.
A year later, after a brutal crackdown, what lasting impact have the protests had?

We Iranians are not a divided country! We are a highly secular society that has fallen captive to an theocratic regime that has the support of only 10 percent of population! If there is division it is with a small minority who still support this brutal regime! We want change and we will get it. It's only a matter of time! And not a long one!

      10%? Where is the source?
If they only have 10% then protests should skyrocket into 1979 style revolution as you only need to get 25% or more, let alone with 90%
yet only less than 0.1% of the population protest
The last time was in 2009 when there almost a million went on for 15 months over election fraud and in the end, they were all but crushed. let alone with just mere 100k in almost 12 month

You have in the west the biggest number of deaths related to Alcohol and suicides, whereas Islam prohibited both . Also, the beauty industry sexualize women to an extent that a lot of young women feel insecure about their look, making women a sexual object, which is one of the justification of the hijab. Finally, small actions as taking care of the neighbors regardless of their religion or political ideology is one of the beliefs in Islam, not to mention all the civil laws that guarantee people's rights are mandatory in Islam. Our country has too short a memory. It was the 70's-80's when women were finally getting some financial freedom and employment rights.
Now, we have, on our own soil, old white men who want to do similar things to our society. They want things to go back to before equality and civil rights for everyone, where women other minorities had to "stay in their place." They've already repealed Roe v. Wade. Trust and believe they have their eyes on anything that supports civil/human rights, workers, and a progressive forward focused society.

This is a SLANDEROUS story, against AYATOLLAH KHAMENEI and the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Mahsa Amini died of natural causes following her arrest in September 2022. Perhaps she should not have been arrested for failure to wear the hijab correctly. But she died of natural causes , likely to have been brought on by severe stress. It’s a fact that she had serious underlying health conditions.
The Islamic Republic of Iran DEMOCRATICALLY VOTED to become an ISLAMIC REPUBLIC, back in 1979. And that means the obligatory wearing of the hijab. We all have a right to be either an Islamic Republic or a KINGDOM, or a communist country, free liberal democratic country etc.
I am a UK citizen, born and raised in this country, from a non- religious background. I converted to Islam, mostly due to MALE MYSOGYNISM in the UK, back in the nineties ! I experienced such degrading treatment by British men towards women , that I ran to ISLAM!
The UK has committed SEVERE HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES AGAINST ME , by locking me up for a total of FIFTY FOUR DAYS, stating that I was mentally unwell, based on SLANDEROUS COMMENTS about ME! I almost DIED OF FRIGHT! Just like Mahsa Amini. This country is HYPOCRITICAL. I am going to make a GIGANTIC COMPLAINT. Insha’Allah.
