Nothing like seeing an ad for mausoleum burial on late night TV. 👻
They couldn’t have packed more “NEW YORK” into that mix of commercials if they tried. Awesome🍎💙🥂
Especially gravelly old Tom Carvel!
@@annabelkitten07 That dude is SO iconic!!
Being from New Jersey, WPIX 11's commercials make me smile broadly.
I so miss the days of the Lawrence Welk Show. I doubt I ever would have watched it had it not been for my grandmother looking forward to re-runs of it during the mid-1980s.
This was a perfect combination of everything I never knew I wanted! Fantastic!
- The "Space: 1999," sitcom block, "Lovers and Other Strangers," "Make Me Laugh!," Lawrence Welk, Yanks vs. Rangers, "Dastardly & Muttley," morning cartoon block, and "Banana Splits" promo V/O was Ralph Lowenstein. (Bill Biery must've had the week off, they usually alternated.)
- Zausner's yogurt V/O was Les Marshak.
I am in SHOCK that there is no commercial for the Odd Couple / Honeymooners combo on Channel 11 ; 11-12 midnight , weeknights .
Top-tier!!
Archie and Edith doing PSAs!
19:41 the Yankees promo theme I always remembered.
So many childhood memories unlocked by this. “Every days a sale day at Mays!” I hadn’t thought of that jingle in probably 40 years yet sang right along in my head.
Ave I flea market 👍👍👍
I kept begging my parents to movr to Starret City because of that ad. A tennis court and a pool! what's not to love
This is scary!!! New York State was actually livable and tolerable back then? Lol
It depends where you were. Rochester was doing very well as Xerox and Kodak were as relevant as ever. Buffalo? In decline. Manhattan was relatively affordable if you stayed in the safe neighborhoods (i.e. get a studio south of 96th and have enough disposable income left over for a back office job to go out and enjoy stuff), but you certainly didn't want to be caught in the South Bronx or Harlem (the Apollo was closed at the time) and if you attended a Yankees game, were sure to follow the crowds to the subway. That said, it was much more culturally interesting. CBGB's was the place to be for up and coming acts, you still had more of the "Old New York" hanging around through jazz/supper clubs, and of course very few chain stores at the time. IMO I wish today's NY was modeled more after what Michigan or Ohio are today; fairly socially liberal but fairly fiscally conservative.
NYC was dangerous back then but the cops were allowed to do their job and criminals weren't let out the same day.pre Disney days🇺🇸
From what I can tell, channel 11 would start airing movies at 8 in place of the game show block.
WPIX use to be on cable systems from Maine to Maryland until small markets established a WB affiliate by the late 90s
"Starrett City" almost sounded too good to be true. The ad is almost "cult like". Growing up in NJ, these commercials really took me back.
It just shows how innocent the world was even in 1979. Can you imagine that Underoos commercial being shown in 2024? Today that would be considered "Kiddy Porn."
You got Archie and Edith 22:13 doing commercial
22:12 Jean Stapleton has some good news for us!
1:36 Holy shit, Otto & George
There was no Second City or Comedy Store in NY?
Polyester yuck
