Lovely episode as usual. Your poncho explanation was great as was the all the maths. I love your approach to patterns as a guide rather than a fixed set of instructions. All your makes looked great on you too. The crochet pattern you made for the magazine looks lovely and I am sure I'm not the only one who would like to make it so please publish the pattern again. I look forward to your vlogs every month so thank you for all the effort it takes to get these things out there. ❤
Hi Dee - you are very kind - thank you. I need to re work the pattern to increase the size range (I designed I number of patterns that I couldn't fit into!) But do intend to publish them - I will let you know when. Many thanks - hope all is well xx
Totally agree with you about Magpie Murders!......I loved how the two plots entwined as well as the excellent casting for the characters. It was a rare find for today’s TV. Thanks for the maths lesson. It made perfect sense! X
Hi Sylvia. It was such a good production, wasn't it - it felt like proper actors, rather than a load of "stars" ( if you know what I mean). Thanks and take care xx
Oh my goodness ! I just found this fantastic channel and I am bingeing the shite out if it. Thanks so much for the fun and entertaining videos. A super funny fiber artist along with extraordinary makes and patterns. What’s not to love ???
Hello Lesley.....Christina here thank you so much for showing and explaining about your poncho. I am going to have a think about it and hopefully make one for me!❤
I absolutely love you. I could listen to all day. I feel like I am visiting with a dear friend. I hope this does not come across cheesy. I just find you very lovely to visit
Loved the way you described the poncho Lesley - I seem to have come across a number of them recently and, of course, now I think I would like to make one! Oh the wish list gets longer all the time... Not enough hours in the day I say... 😊
Lovely end of month catch up today! I was very pleased you took time to explain your poncho in more detail as I didn’t quite see it first time around! Such a brilliant stash buster for a useful garment! I love your red striped sweater and I think it’s going to be so lovely on you when finished. Take care and thank you x
Hi Lesley. You are very generous making full size garments for other people. I keep my circular needles in poli pockets in a lever arch file. I separate the sizes with tabbed coloured card dividers also in poli pockets and write the needle size on the tabs. Works pretty well. I can show you on my vlog if you like. I'm always interested how other people store there crafty bits and pieces as it's useful to be able to find them again once you've put them away! X
Hi Anita. Using the machine certainly sped up the gift knitting xx You are so organised! I like the idea of the poli pockets (and I'm sure many would find it useful to see), but I didn't want the needles to be coiled up, as only my ChiaoGoos have wires in the cables, and most of my needles are Knit Pros. Hope you are keeping well and thank you xx
I remember Jude loving working on his pengueno... out of his normal styles... he had a blast... As I recall It was VERY eclectically colored and textured...
Hi Lesley. I enjoyed seeing all your makes this month. Can imagine your friend loved her jacket. I'm working on 2nd Avenue wrap. Incorporating the leftovers from the mcal and a couple of other colours. It's a simple, effective pattern. Have a good weekend. X
I enjoy seeing how your projects turn out so well. I also don't have enough yarn for big projects, but I want to make a garment. I may throw caution to the wind and try mixing yarns to complete something I can wear. Have a good week and stay well.
Hi Sharon I hope you make something lovely. And it's yarn - it can be unpicked and re-used if you find something isn't working. Thanks and good luck xx
The panel jacket has turned out fabulous!!! your friend will be really smart when wearing it out. the floof sweater colour scheme looks easy, is it? looking forward to seeing it finished keep taking care xxxx
Hiya. The friend likes the jacket, thankfully xx The colour scheme us a form of educated guesswork. I got all my reds of close enough weights together, and I am doing alternate rows (or 1, the 2, then 3...) to mix thrm, depending on how much yarn I have left. As usual, I am just making it up as I go along! Take good care and keep well xx
The panel jacket is a real success Lesley. It's always a risk making for others, especially if they are crafters themselves. I really appreciated your comments about the Penguono pattern. I've always thought it was a chunky weight knit holding several strands together. I like the jacket very much but I have avoided it as chunky on my frame doesn't do me any favours 😄. Looking forward to seeing yours
Hi Anne. Thankfully, the jacket was well received - phew! You are right about holding strands together for the Penguono - I hope that my version (with fewer strands held together!) will work. Hope you are doing well xx
I'm just thinking of your builders as a special drumming group, background to your crafty chat Thank you for the gauge/math lesson. I will need to review this when my brain is less fuzzy from fatigue. I'm sure it will make sense then. Oooh I really like that "Floof". The colours are magnificent. Magic Ball...this will make things interesting...that's funny but so in tune with you as a knitter. HUgs until next time!
Ha! I like the thought of the builders as drummers - makes it much less annoying! Context is all xx Yes - magic ball - of course! What else would I have? Take good care xx
I store all my fixed circular needles in a wall hanger similar to yours. I like it. I’ve been storing interchangeable cables in a notebook with pockets. If you find that the one you made works well, I might have to rethink my storage. I’m afraid they might not be heavy enough to stay put.
Hiya. That's my fear, too, but I am hoping that the narrow "pockets" will prevent too much slippage. If it doesn't work, you'll see me trying something else! I wanted storage where they could hang, rather than be curled up (they are mostly Knit pros, so the cables don't have the metal core like my ChiaoGoos. So far so good, but early days. Thanks so much and take care xx
Thank you for a lovely episode, and great company. I really enjoyed your explanation on how you made the poncho (and the music, do you get royalties for that?? 😆 ) It looks like your anual (not quite) couple of weeks off did you good. I am working on Creabeas new cardigan (Corran), making it hip length and long sleves too. Next up will probably be a big blanket in Drops Lima. I made a smaler one this winter, and love it so much, that I am making a big one. Havent decidid if I will knit in one piece or make smaler sections, or even crochet . Off to Ravelry to look at some patterns now... Hope you have a lovely weekend Les.
Hi and thanks so much. The cardigan sounds great and a big blanket? I take my hat off to you - you are a more patient crafter than I. Hope you find a lovely pattern xx
Hi Lesley! I watched right through the math, and I think I even understand 😄it (thankfully I’m home a couple of days now that lambing is done, so I don’t have “lambing brain” anymore😅) As well as lambs, tiny puppies were also born while I was there- it was a complete cute fest! Thank you for sharing that conversion info with us, & I’m looking forward to your Penguano ( spelling? Guano doesn’t seem correct.. penguin guano? Maybe?)
Hi Susan. Puppies? Oh my goodness! How many did you take home with you? Loved your lambing videos - nothing could say "spring" more beautifully xx Penguin Guano is probably how mine will look, I wonder if that's how Mr W came up with the Penguono name...🤔 Take care and hope you are able to rest up, after your busy but lovely time xx
Hi Lesley! Thank you so much for your reverse engineering explanation. It made total sense to me and I avoid math wherever possible. Your calm fearlessness in amending patterns as you want them is inspiring. Great job with the panel jacket!
The blue jacket is beautiful, I’m sure your friend loved it. Looking for to seeing the colors in your new sweater. I’m making baby hats for the hospital. I will have to post some pictures. Have a great weekend.
Another very informative podcast (I took notes) and greatly enjoyable as well. Impressive amount of creativity shown in your projects. I think your friend will love the panel jacket. I too really enjoyed the first season of Magpie Murders. Lesley Manville did a marvelous job as the lead, as well as the rest of the cast. I also particularly enjoyed Tim McMullan as Atticus Pund (Where's my umlaut? - I dunno), I was pleased to see there will be a Season 2 based on the follow-up novel Moonflower Murders. Filming this year and probably broadcast in 2024. In England this time it will be on the BBC first, rather than Britbox, according to Google. Here in the U.S. the series was on PBS, the public broadcasting network. Between PBS, and subscriptions to Britbox and Acorn TV I wind up watching a lot of British television series. Anyhoo, greatly enjoyed this month's video. Thank you so much.
Hi Frank. Thanks for that info. I knew there was another book and hoped there would be a second series. My friend was happy with the jacket (thank goodness), so that was a relief. Hope life is treating you kindly - thanks for being here xx
Great to see you again 🧶, thanks for knitting company, and all your efforts to explain things. Unfortunately you lost me when all the measuring was done in inches/stitches per inch. But it’s ok - you can’t please everyone. Take care, wishing you a happy Valborg 🔥 (we celebrate that tomorrow in Sweden 🇸🇪) and a sunny May Day 🌷🌞🧶
Hi Carole. I went for inches, because that's what the majority of viewers work in - but CM? Even easier! 22 sts per 10cm - 2.2 sts per cm etc. I hope that your Valborg celebration was fun. Thanks and take care xx
I'm so glad that you are enjoying your Penguono - it was a design that had your name on it. We had a conversation about it when you started your stash mal in 2022 but it took me so long to pick up the courage to tackle it that I was too late for the mal. It eats yarn but I don't think that will be a problem for you. Look forward to seeing the end result.
I want so badly to make a Penguono!! And I will wear it proudly.........I have heard several podcasters say they want to make one however they would never wear it!!?? I don't get that! ❤
Hi Christina. I will let you know when mine is done - I guess some things are more fun to knit than to wear? I intend to wear mine, but we'll see - I may have to make some modifications. Thanks and take care xx
Good to know my way of reverse engineering (usually converting standard crochet to Tunisian) is on the right track despite being largely guesswork! I never feel confident about neck shaping or shaping for inset sleeves. I always "borrow" for that. I would happily commission three of those needle holders! All my needles are fixed circulars and are a mess. It's not helped by having 2 of each 16" fixed circulars as I use the two circular method for socks and hats.
Hi Ian Thanks so much. "Borrowing" is a good way to work - especially if it's a pattern that you know fits well. The needle holder works well, but isn't the prettiest - it's tuck away, as it looks like it's holding unusual spaghetti, with the needles hanging down - but it does the job. I have also seen knitted/crochet ones with a big cable worked in the middle, and the needles tuck in behind the cable. Possible scrap project? Thanks and take good care xx
I love the final sweater you are wearing, beautiful! ❤
Thanks Brenda - much appreciated xx

Thanks Suzan - I appreciate you being here xx

I’m sure your friend will love her new jacket 😍. I also watched Magpie Murders and really enjoyed it.
Thanks Jo. The jacket was well received - phew! Hope all is well with you xx
I’m actually here but just not talkative but am enjoying listening to you !!❤️🥰
Hi Becky. I appreciate your being here. Thanks and take care xx
Hi Lesley, the panel jacket turned out beautifully. Loved all your creations actually. Thanks for this.
Hi Donna. That's very kind. Thanks so much xx Hope all is well with you xx
That red jumper is going to be wonderful!
Thanks Mairead - I am enjoying it very much.
Hope you are well xx
Luv your red sweater, loved Magpie Murders, and just loved this episode, in general. ❤xo 😉
Thanks Carol. I thought of you when talking about Magpie Murders - I thought it would be something you would enjoy xx Take care xx

Hi Karla - goodness, such kindness - thank you so much.
It is lovely to have you here - thank you for your company xx
Yes, even with the “Math” I stuck with you, Lesley.
I too enjoyed Magpie Murders for the same reasons you did.
Thanks for another great podcast!!💜🧶
Thanks Mary - hope all is well with you xx

I enjoyed the Magpie Murders series, too.

Love your Floof and I don't like red normally. Thanks for the podcast

I have the Penguono pattern. You have inspired me to give it another go…

I am enjoying it so far - and I am not going to put the "ridges" down the back - a design element too far for me!

Hi Patricia. Well done for choosing that as a first one, given how vague the instructions are. I am glad you were happy with the results xx

I’m getting concerned that your backgrounds are soooooo tidy. I’m living in chaos here. X
Hi Jenifer - it's all in the camera angles - don't look at the floor!
