Ambientazione:
Final Fantasy VII Remake si svolge interamente all'interno della città di Midgar (dove hanno luogo le vicende iniziali del gioco originale), una metropoli industrializzata divisa in otto settori circolari e al cui centro si trova la sede della Shinra Electric Power Company, un'avida ed influente compagnia energetica che fornisce energia elettrica all'intera città sfruttando una risorsa energetica chiamata Mako, la principale fonte energetica del mondo.
Il Mako non è altro che la forma liquida del Lifestream, il flusso vitale del pianeta che permea tutte le forme di vita esistenti e che tiene in vita il pianeta stesso; per questo motivo, in molti criticano l'operato della Shinra, in quanto lo sfruttamento intensivo del Mako pur permettendo un'alta qualità della vita alla popolazione, ne indebolisce il pianeta, uccidendolo lentamente.
Midgar a sua volta è circondata da otto reattori Mako che ne convertono incessantemente quest'ultimo in energia elettrica, e i suoi bassifondi (dove le persone vivono in povertà e devono difendersi dai mostri) sono separati dai ricchi settori residenziali da una piattaforma circolare posta a 300 metri di altezza dal suolo, sulla quale vivono i cittadini più benestanti e dove si trova la sede della Shinra, che di fatto governa l'intera città.

Walkthrough - #19 - Chapter 13 [The end of a world]
Setting:
Final Fantasy VII Remake takes place entirely within the city of Midgar (where the initial events of the original game take place), an industrialized metropolis divided into eight circular sectors and at the center of which is the headquarters of the Shinra Electric Power Company, a greedy and influential energy company that supplies electricity to the entire city by exploiting an energy resource called Mako, the main energy source in the world.
The Mako is nothing other than the liquid form of the Lifestream, the vital flow of the planet that permeates all existing life forms and keeps the planet itself alive; for this reason, many criticize Shinra's actions, as the intensive exploitation of the Mako, while allowing a high quality of life for the population, weakens the planet, slowly killing it.
Midgar in turn is surrounded by eight Mako reactors which incessantly convert the latter into electricity, and its slums (where people live in poverty and must defend themselves from monsters) are separated from the rich residential sectors by a circular platform located 300 meters above the ground, on which the wealthiest citizens live and where the headquarters of Shinra, which effectively governs the entire city, is located.
