Sooooooo, a few days ago I had a dream that I was walking out of a house. This young guy walks up to me and says the older brother of this kid that I beat up is coming for me. The older brother wants to punch me in the face before I get where I'm going. I just brush it off like it's no big deal and get in my car. As I drive I go straight into a grave. The car begins to fall backwards into deep darkness and as I look up to the slowly fading light I just calmly say that this is up to God to get me out.

I take it that Job's actions of 1:5 was out of some kind of toxic religion. Was it a way of trying to force God's hand or manipulate him? I see it as a great contrast to his chapter 29 kind of living and ministry as a delivering judge being led by the anointing of God and the leading of the Holy Spirit which reconciled men to God, glorifying him and his ways as it caused the righteous to rejoice. So how does a man get from a chapter 29 style of life to a Job 1:5 way of life? I think of the parable of the sower that Jesus told. There were different kinds of soils and I expect that can happen at any stage of life, these things being, I believe concerning our hearts. Though we are perfect and blameless all the time in the Spirit, in Christ Jesus, we do have a carnal side that might show up from time to time, which needs to be destroyed, dismantled, subdued, mortified, and overcome. In Job 1:8, I believe the Lord was speaking of Job's good side, the inner man part which fits God's plan for his life, the part that Job walked faithfully in for some time, which pleased God, which part was in Christ Jesus, which part God continually looks at as a husbandman over his vineyard, which is perfect and blameless. I had to divide words which were in the fear of the Lord from those that were not, and then I had to divide soul from Spirit in Job 1:8. There was toxic religious fire going on in that book, as well as some wonderful wisdom of God. However, don't take the lie that you might hear that says that Job's talk about God was prayer to God. It wasn't. See Matthew 6:1-4. Alms isn't always goods or money given to the poor. Alms can be "righteousness". If a man is giving his "alms" before men to be seen of men, he shouldn't expect a reward from God. If we are not hearing from God, the place to start is in a prayer closet, worshipping God and praying to him in private. Maybe God has something for us there. Toxic religion can be compared to chemical warfare. Soldiers need to wear their protective clothing during chemical warfare, and a common decontamination method is to wash with a solution that looks like milk. We can get clean of toxic religious fire by the sincere milk of the word. I believe to understand that book, receiving the Elihu section is necessary. Some people don't understand chastening of the Lord. I believe Job experienced it, and when God chastens people, it means there is something they need to correct. There is a fault that needs correction. If God is resisted during chastening, I believe chastening can turn into affliction. Whose choice was that then? Wasn't it a personal decision to let that happen? So doing "religious" acts to manipulate God is what? Sorcery? Witchcraft? It's at least a work of the flesh that is evil, and it can have a toxic effect on others too. If I was the Devil, I would want to hide the matter of justification and get men to think of themselves as a useless worm. However, as a Christian I want to expose justification. When God has a matter against a man and that man justifies God rather than himself, he may be justified by God. Reconciliation ministry can have something in common with auto repair, seems to me. If a mechanic tells you you need a certain new auto part or a particular service, will you believe him, when you really don't know the mechanic? You might, but what if he shows you the fault on his diagnostic equipment, or shows you the faulty part on your car and shows you why it is faulty? Might that help you trust? I think it should. One in our Job study tonight didn't think that it would and didn't see any connection between ministry of the gospel and auto repair in that regard, yet now I think of how the apostle Paul spent a lot of time near the beginning of the book of Romans showing us our faults before he explained things in detail about faith and justification and the righteousness of God, grace and such things as that which is the remedy we needed. Well, beware of religious toxic stuff and remember the sincere milk of the word that can detox us.

Toxic religion can be compared to chemical warfare. Soldiers need to wear their protective clothing during chemical warfare, and a common decontamination method is to wash with a solution that looks like milk. We can get clean of toxic religious fire by the sincere milk of the word.
I believe to understand that book, receiving the Elihu section is necessary. Some people don't understand chastening of the Lord. I believe Job experienced it, and when God chastens people, it means there is something they need to correct. There is a fault that needs correction. If God is resisted during chastening, I believe chastening can turn into affliction. Whose choice was that then? Wasn't it a personal decision to let that happen?
So doing "religious" acts to manipulate God is what? Sorcery? Witchcraft? It's at least a work of the flesh that is evil, and it can have a toxic effect on others too.
If I was the Devil, I would want to hide the matter of justification and get men to think of themselves as a useless worm. However, as a Christian I want to expose justification. When God has a matter against a man and that man justifies God rather than himself, he may be justified by God.
Reconciliation ministry can have something in common with auto repair, seems to me. If a mechanic tells you you need a certain new auto part or a particular service, will you believe him, when you really don't know the mechanic? You might, but what if he shows you the fault on his diagnostic equipment, or shows you the faulty part on your car and shows you why it is faulty? Might that help you trust? I think it should.
One in our Job study tonight didn't think that it would and didn't see any connection between ministry of the gospel and auto repair in that regard, yet now I think of how the apostle Paul spent a lot of time near the beginning of the book of Romans showing us our faults before he explained things in detail about faith and justification and the righteousness of God, grace and such things as that which is the remedy we needed.
Well, beware of religious toxic stuff and remember the sincere milk of the word that can detox us.
