    I have been looking for information and courses on Power Query and Power BI mostly here on TH-cam. You are hands down the best tutor I have found and your pacing and presentation are excellent. I can’t thank you enough for the massive amount of work you put into your channel. I have learned a lot just by watching and that’s without the downloads and the following along which I will do presently.

    Great video on PQ. One thing I recommend for anyone learning it, make or download some sample data sets to use and combine in it and start just playing around with it. Spend 30 mins to an hour everyday just seeing what the features do and what you can do with it. You will learn how to optimize and master PQ in no time, probably less than a couple weeks :) And once you learn it, you will love it and it will become second nature to you, don't get overwhelmed!

    Thanks Chandoo! This video is exactly what I needed for a tough problem I’ve been working on lately. I’ve been tying myself in knots for the last couple of weeks trying to figure out how to efficiently merge and append 10 different large spreadsheets that will update on an occasional basis. And, I was doing it all with just native Excel formulas. Let’s just say it wasn’t very pretty. Thanks for showing me how to do it the right way!

    Chandon, this is a very helpful course! I really appreciate the Mind Map approach to put the Power Query architecture in perspective from the outset. Before seeing your video, I felt like I was trying to reverse engineer what Power Query is all about. I’m interested in how to capture my monthly portfolio performance reports, transforming them in a standard format and appending them to a running data set of monthly performance data. That’s my goal. Hoping to learn the right terms and techniques to make this happen.

    Well done Chandoo, quite a comprehensive video. I would also talk about renaming your steps using words familiar to you like "change null to others" so that it is easy when you come back to amend your query in future.

    • @chandoo_
      @chandoo_  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a great suggestion EW. I normally don't bother with naming them unless I am building queries for others. I also suggest using the "properties" on steps to set descriptive comments.

      I had an experience that kept me rewinding the video over and over. I had to close the power query editor before trying it again, and after, I was back on track. However, I need clarity for next time on why I had that experience. The challenge was; During the appending part (Year 11 & Year 12), an additional "Year" column appeared, making it two different year columns. The first year had "Year 11 and null value" and second Year had "null value & Year 12". I would have combined the two columns and filtered out the null values, but this experience was not part of the video, which got me worried for a while before I decided to close the power query editor and started again. Anyways, that was my experience.

      You can use the APPEND queries option to combine data or use other techniques. I will be making a vid about combining sheets with PQ. Watch out for that on the channel.
