Presumably one of the weirdest dialogues from Plato. Do we live in a simulation? What is the relationship between Athens and Atlantis? Who or what created the kosmos?
Do you want to learn more about Plato's foundational myth of the cave? Do we live in a simulation? Can we break free?

Cosmos and Ethos. Whitehead was right. The western philosophic tradition is a footnote to Plato. Kant: “der bestirnte Himmel über mir, und das moralische Gesetz in mir.” Thanks Johannes for these thoughtful lessons.

That may be true. However, Western philosophy itself is merely a footnote to the complete history of Western Man.
The philosophy and science of the last three thousand years is but a glimmer in the eye of ten times as long, if not a hundred, of our true development:

I find Plato's rebuttal of the Hesiodic cosmogony in this particular work where the world is governed by chaos, represented by squabbling Olympian families and laws are drawn arbitrarily, replaced by one governed by Logos (reason, order) that can be understood by human mind, the most important event in history, without which Christian theology as formulated by St Augustine would be impossible. Have you noticed lately a trend in popular culture with TV shows and movies where squabbling families of royal houses are glorified and becoming the norm, signalling the descent of the modern world into the chaos that predated Plato?

Hesiodic chaos is not the same as Plato's chaos. They are talking about different levels of cosmogony (hierarchy) when they use the word chaos.

Sure sounds like the early elements of astrology, every part of this relates to Bronze Age Astrological allegory, what we call religion today

The proof that this is not a simulation is the simple fact that a so vast code, of a size and deep detail to simulate an almost infinite universe never could have pass to avoid within the rules that the beings within the simulation could get the idea to be living in a simulation. Why? Because in such a case if it would be true the beings within the simulation never would stop till demonstrate this universe is a simulation, which could bring hopeless and self destruction, what must be against the whatever purposes of the simulation carried out by external beings.

Also: The programming would be so complex, information-wise, that it could not be surveyed independently or ahead of running the program (the universe) itself.

The proof that is not a simulation is that our current storyline is so completely absurd that no writer would ever think we would believe it.

Why do you assume that beings within the simulation would not be aware of their existence in a simulation? Is the idea of a creator (God) and programmer (simulation creator) not the same? People accept that “God” created the world, why not accept that “God” is a scientist who put us in a simulation with free will? Human beings already live among self destruction and even destruction of society collectively, I think the very fact we are conscious beings with the ability to think about our purpose, means that there is an answer and we can understand it. We were given the ability to reason and consciously think for a reason. The simulation was designed for self discovery, understanding, lessons.

Hence why you would see evidence of data compression to reduce the amount of memory needed. This is exactly what we see when we "split" the atom and see that 99.99999% of what we consider solid matter is really empty space giving off the illusion of being solid and impermeable. Furthermore, through the double slit experiment we see that these "atoms" or building blocks of matter are really just waveforms or data waves being observed as something material. Outer space is in a similar sense most likely an illusion or projection as well, hence why the ancients knew it to be a "firmament". The only thing that is really real are our souls, yearning for union with the true base reality. Plato knew more than we think and was really a mystic.
