The layer-by-layer layout is better for someone with little to no redstone knowledge, someone who just wants to build the door with no fuss. But for someone like myself who has the knowledge to understand it, I want to see it built by circuit in parts. I want to see how it works, and the awesome work arounds you used to make it work.
Both types of tutorials have their pros and cons. - Circuit by circut helps to better understand the contraption and appreciate how it works, and in my experience it requires less editing. - Layer by layer, on the other hand, it's much easier to follow since you stop the video and you see everything. It's easier to build everything - you don't have to squeeze between the components. But you have no idea what is for what.
I prefer layer by layer. It's kinda like 3D printing the door, and I like it. Plus, you get to see more of it at a time than normal tutorials, I think.
I just wanted to say, thank you for making this exact door! I've been wanting to make a spiral 3x3 piston door for a while, but I'm bad at redstone so I couldn't design it myself. I love how it's so fast while also being a perfect spiral, it just looks so nice. Much appreciated!
give a man a fish and you feed him for a day [layer by layer tutorial] teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime [explanation tutorial] these explanation style vids are great, i normally never stick around for the tutorial [even though i probably should], but the editing keeps things very watchable throughout. I like to play around with slime and honey, and i find random parts of your vids to be applicable in the doors i build. imo redstone is saturated by people targetting the "newb" audience, so your vids are a breath of fresh air in a sea of 3x3 tutorials, good stuff!
Hey purple , i really like your channel , and i've been a fan for a long time . I'm doing redstone as well but i got to a point witch many people would call the soft cap . Its getting harder and harder to get better , and i think you would make a great teacher . What do you think about making tutorials on circuits , and how to connect them . My biggest issue right now is that i cant make the input , i can make every part of the contraption , but it gets really big when i connect them . I would love to see a very good redstoner like yourself explain these things . Thank you for reading this far !
Have you considered redoing this design with the new Copper Bulb? It provides a much smaller 1-tick delay, which may make this kind of delay between pistons easier.

Nope, leaves placed by a player have an NBT tag that that stops them from decaying :> Also, even if they were naturally generated leaves, I don't think it would be possible for them to decay; the log is pushed down instantly, and finishes getting pulled up after 3 game ticks. I don't know the specifics of leaf decay, but I think there's a lower limit on how quickly leaves can disappear, and so the movement speed of the log would be too quick for them to ever decay.
To me “best” is the combination of being not just fast, but also “small” (relative to the door/redstone). (I know this door exists because it’s faster and that’s fine I just prefer the first door because it’s good enough for me)
I like layer tutorials but i prefer circuit tutorials because i can see the repeter tics better and i can understand it better. Also, the door is broken in the latest version… (just so you know)😅

Obviously this isn't a comment on the design, this was released well before the Copper Bulb existed in snapshots

But circuit by circuit makes it easier to understand.
