Beautiful model! I've tried replicating this paint job for years and the best I can come up with is gray primer with some flat black and different shades of flat gray weathering with a dry brush. I can never really get it pinned down, like you said-very elusive!
I'm not done watching your video yet, but as soon as I seen "Two- Lane Blacktop" I clicked instantly! I've been waiting for someone with the chops to tackle this car, it was a pretty straight-forward creature, but one of my favorites. OK, I'm done watching. Don't mess with it, it turned out amazing!!! One of my absolute favorite customs I've seen! I love it!
The far out world of the high speed seen ! 🤣 🙊🙉🙈🤣 Your radius on the rear quarters is spot on ! I was always under the impression that the car was a dark gray and weathered. All of the diecast of this car (1:18 & 1:25) are gray. It's badass no matter the color ! Well done!🍻 Happy Thanksgiving !
@@Themarbleproject I have a special pair of jeans for tomorrow (they stretch). I had a 56 2dr wagon for a couple years ..... yeah 80 made my man-hood try to crawl up inside me ! Then there's the stopping part ! 🍻
Fun fact; the car in your thumbnail is a replica that was built in the UK, with input from Richard Ruth, who built the three film cars. I now own it. I bought it at Santa Pod drag strip in 2019. It's got a 454 with ally Edelbrock heads, a lumpy cam, Weiand tunnel ram, twin Holley 750 double pumpers and a Muncie M22 4 speed. It's film correct, apart from the front 4 bar link mounts were slightly re-designed to improve the geometry. It's a bit spicy. I liked the style of the car from the film so much I had to have it.
Brian you nailed it! I wouldn't change a thing. I would build a companion for it done up as it appeared in American Graffiti. Have a feeling if we have another movie car challenge that we'll be seeing the coolest ones yet. I've got 2 cars from Corvette Summer in the works and I'm looking for the perfect casting to do a Crazy Larry and Dirty Mary Charger. 🍻
It was built originally by a old west coast car builder Richard Ruth.Walt toook it back to Richard Ruth to put a straight axle back in it for the resto. It would actually run in the 10s. It was a dark gray and Walt dripped spray nine all over it to give it that washed out look. I own a 70 judge too lol
OK Now I'm going to have to try this! With the slighty-darker, oily look of the paint I would have never suspected a degreaser was used. I would have tried WF-40 or something first. Now to find a test-subject! I have read that they over-thinned black lacquer and poured it from the can along the tops of the fenders and doors and let it just run down the sides. I've always wanted to try that too!
Damn! That's Awesome! My Absolute favorite 55 chevy in the world! Im actually working on one too (long term project) That actual car(camera rig car)was owned by a guy named Walt for many years 15 minutes from where i live. He restored it to Two Lane Configurations, and recently sold it at Meacham auctions. I was fortunate enough to see it at a local car show years ago.
nicely done, on the topic of colour, its a bit difficult to say, the scenes in the trailer made it look dusty black, but those stills you had made it look like the bare metal with an oil wash, so really it could be anywhere from chalkboard to gun black :/
Dude it was never black in this film, only Dark grey primer and heavily streaked from weather, Surely somebody has the daisy rims in 1/64 scale with vintage looking tyres?
👌love it 🥰
Awesome build Sir, would love to see how you built the Hood Scoop, TY
Cool build, love the primer grey gasser look 👍👍😊
Thank you!
