THANKS! I used it to super-quick make a voice morning alarm - saying what I have to do. A kind of affirmation/meditation to get my head in the right space for what I got coming up. SUPER COOL! I left the TicTok noise in the background just for that extra little punch.
I knew there had to be an easier way to assign a brand new ringtone that I downloaded. I watched several others the other day that used not just the garage band app but the files app, etc. and I never could figure it all out so tonight I decided to just search for some thing out there that was more simple and hear you were. Thank you so much.
Do you know that you can just take an audio clip file of any song and change the file type and then upload it to your phone and it behaves like a ringtone? It’s like three steps. I managed to do it when I was like 10 years old.
@@Lord-Of-Light I was doing something similarly for a while, but unfortunately Apple will no longer allow those to work as custom text tones for individual contacts (since I updated to iOS 17). Sigh. I know Apple is a company like any other trying to make more money (via purchasing tones from them), but I really wish they'd stop making it so hard for us to customize our phones the way we want to. p.s. At least with the method @macmost just showed, you can assign a newly created tone to an individual contact.
C.R.E.A.M.= Cash rules everything around me: Wu-Tang Clan I love Apple, but they have a major control fetish as far as still being able to dictate what we are able to do after purchasing media and other content from them. FUCK DRM!
I used to be able to take my audio files and change the extension to M4 R and they would sync up to the phone with no problems, but that was when tones were in the iTunes app on the Mac and that's no longer an option. How are you Doing that now?
Thanks Gary, useful as always. But I honestly think, somebody should create an app (and make a ton of money!) for that. Being an ex IT guy, I think the app will function like this: 1- You select a song or audio file in the app (the source file is up to you but must be on the phone). 2 - Enter the beginning and the end of the ringtone (i.e the part in the song / file that will be used as ringtone, say 0:32 - 0:57) 3 - The app will grab the selected piece, save it as .m4r file (ringtone file) on your phone 4 - Done. I usually do the steps above in Itunes, works perfectly.
Excellent -followed a few tutorials on how to create ringtones - never succeeded - but then I'm a 74 technophobe - your tutorial crystal clear - it works! - love the idea of creating spoken ringtones - got my wife to record one - now when she phones me "answer the phone stupid" rings out - love it! @@macmost I spent eight hours working on this yesterday. I'm totally blind and have been using Final Cut Pro with VoiceOver to cut commercials out of these Modern Marvels episodes I seem to be addicted to. So I basically figured if I could figure out how to use Final Cut Pro with a screen reader then I could figure out Garage Band by myself, but that was not the case at all. I finally broke down and called the Apple accessibility help line and got about two hours of help from a senior advisor there. After we worked out what to do I was totally blown away by how easy it was. It was not as easy as Just changing the extension to M4R and importing the clip into the iTunes app on the Mac, but it was still not too hard. Thank you for all your very informative videos!
Wow! Thank you so much for sharing how to setup a personal ringtone. It was so easy thanks to your clear and simple instructions ✨You’re a great instructor!
Omg tysm! My ringtone is a thousand miles song! Cause the other videos are good but dont show How to get the link to garage band ,but this,THE BEST VID
Thank you Gary! Great BUT would have been MUCH better if Allie allow us to use any file on our phones and directly assign as ringtone, notification tone, etc. Android have it for ages now and this is one thing I really miss from my android era. Changing my ringtones on daily basis with just one clip "set as ringtone" while play and like a song. Shame Apple is holding back for such basic use of a phone feature for so long.
At last .. a straight forward talking guy explaining things so even us old folk can understand it and av a go … cheers Gazza, will try it out later 👍🏽. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 👍🏽.
I suppose you could Share in GarageBand like I show, but choose Project instead of Ringtone. Then use AirDrop to send the GarageBand project to them. Then they can open it in GarageBand and Share as a Ringtone to get it themselves.
Pfff created a m4r file (ringtone format on my desktop) with perfect trimming and sound and put into my documents (by sending an e-mail with the file) on my iPhone however I was unable to set / access it as a ringtone. This should be made easier by Apple. I'm sure there is a way but too complicated for me. Your method does work however it took me quite a while especially the recording and trimming and putting the metronome off. Make sure you are in a very low sound environment (no church bells, wind, traffic in the background for example). The rest was simple.
Would you make a video on various ways to compress files/folders to a password-protected zip archive on a Mac? My preferable usage would be through right click menu, but sometimes it is also convenient to use drag and drop or terminal methods. There is a plethora of different techniques when you google, but most of them look impractical or intimidating. Thanks.
I like it. There are MANY good electric piano, synthesizer, bells, chimes and other sounds you can modify in Garage Band. Use the on-screen keyboard to play a tune, or plug in an actual piano style keyboard. Thanks for the good idea.
Excellent tip! I always wanted to do this but never bothered to figure out how. Now I just have to go find that obscure 20-year old song I want to use 😅 Thank you!
Tried it twice. It records it, I name it. Go to ringtone. Do everything u say. When I go to settings, it, the song, just gives 2 short vibrations, barely audible. Yes, the volume is up and no, it's not on silent
😘 thank you! Im so tired of being nickeled dimmed and dollared by apple! Now I’m off to make me a really cool ringtone so that I will check my calendar alerts!
thanks for this video.. however, it's still too complicated compared to other operating systems...really apple should make things easier. the buyers of apple products are paying much
Now if someone would just call. . . .
🤣
Awww!
Make it a text notification
@@donald6427same problem there...

Thanks Gary
Thanks Gary, I screen recorded you saying "ring ring" and now it's my never ending looping ringtone

I've done many videos over the years on that technique. It is a little more complex than that, but yes.

How do I create custom ringtones using the GarageBand Mac app? BTW, I am also using VoiceOver because I'm totally blind.
You can design the ringtone in GarageBand for Mac, but you'd need to bring it to GarageBand for iPhone to install the ringtone anyway.
