    Hey Howard,
I like your 2nd chorus! I like the syncopation in 1st step, I like the "toe'n'heel" part in the Tack Annie, and overall, I think you did a good job on changing the steps, yet taking over rhythmic ideas and steps of the 1st chorus, so that it still looks a lot like Shim Sham. :-) Very good work, thanks for sharing. :-)

I can't take any credit for the 2nd chorus. It is the work of Leonard Reed, who is also widely credited with the original Shim Sham. Leonard added the 2nd chorus many decades later. (He lived to be 97.)

I would agree with everything you said. Leonard Reed's claim to authorship is widely accepted because he outlived by many decades others who claimed the dance and he was very beloved. Leonard's version is that he developed it with a collaborator. There was one major claim that was considered equally legitimate by many, but I'd have to look that up to get that name back in my brain.

It was supposed to be an easy dance, so many people could fill the stage at the end of a show. And the choreo had been put together in a hurry, so they used steps that already existed. Which means the Shim Sham in parts is even older than the 1920's. Over the years the Shim Sham was also adapted to fashion changes. Originally it included a real Shimmy (thus the name) which is a kind of

a shaking movement of the upper body. That much I was told anyway. My teacher never meantioned a particular name of a dancer associated with the Shim Sham.
