  • Sugar Flower Tutorial: Classic Rosebud & Rose Leaves | Honey Crumb Cake Studio
BUDS and LEAVES are absolutely crucial components of sugar flower arrangements, yet they're often overlooked. Everyone wants to learn the big, show-stopping flowers... but what about the humble buds and foliage that add so much life, beauty, and movement to your arrangements?
This week, we're here with a detailed tutorial to help you master the rosebud, as well as a realistic stem of rose leaves with the perfect leafy sheen.
For you fellow flower nerds out there, our rose in this tutorial is based on a variety called “Peach Avalanche”.
    Tools & materials needed:
    Gumpaste
Gel colors (I used "Deep Pink", "Egg Yellow", and "Ivory" by Americolor to create the pale pink/peach paste used in the tutorial)
    Cornstarch to prevent sticking
Shortening (optional; to condition & moisturize your gumpaste while kneading it)
Water, egg whites, or edible glue, plus a small paintbrush
3/4” styrofoam rose cone or 3/4" styrofoam ball
20 g floral wire (green) for main stem
24 g floral wire (green) for rose leaves
Individual rose petal cutters or tear drop cutters in two sizes (1” wide, and 1-1/2” wide)
    Fine scissors
Gumpaste rolling pin, foam pad (with holes, for "Mexican hat" method), and large/medium ball tool
    CelBoard (optional)
    Dresden tool
    CelStick
Bamboo skewer (or the handle of your paintbrush!)
Petal dusts (I used Squire’s Kitchen “Chestnut Brown”, Sunflower Sugar Art “Apple Green”, Crystal Colors “Fuchsia” & “Pumpkin”, and Rolkem "Leaf Green")
    Dusting brushes - preferably flat-edged
    Green floral tape
    ______
    Petal guide:
Cut 3x petals with the 1" wide teardrop-shaped rose petal cutter for the first two layers
Cut 3x petals with 1-1/2” wide rose petal cutter for the next layer -- you can stop there, add a calyx, and you've got a small rosebud
Or, proceed by cutting 3x more petals with the 1-1/2” wide rose petal cutter to create one more layer (then add a calyx, and you'll have a medium-sized rosebud)
For each stem of rose leaves, I used 1x large leaf, 2x medium-sized leaves, and 2x small leaves

Hi there. Please help! I'm not sure how to attach the wire, because when the rose gets heavy, the wire either slips out, or gets loose. Thanks in advance

If you'd like to get realistic looking flowers and leaves, then yes, you need to use a veiner.

in the video you only use 3 small petals and the rest are the large ones...is that correct?

    • @HoneyCrumb
      @HoneyCrumb  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yup, that's correct!
