I discovered a Lupin n my garden a few years ago. It’s provided me with gorgeous patches of tropical looking plants in random sunny patches now for years. Thanks for the great video!
Hi Rhonda! Thank you for saying that and for watching/commenting. 😃 Yes, they can be smaller or larger than the ones we have and are soooo beautiful, as you already know. 😉 Is your's a Lupinus perennis or a different species?
I bought some cultivated Lupines this Spring. They are actually starting to bloom! The tag said they are a variety of colors. The first one blooming is yellow. Can’t wait to see what colors the others will be. Enjoyed your video! Have a great day🪻🌼🌸🌺
Hi friends, I dream of having lupine in my garden. A relative came from the US and brought a packet of seeds, so I'm starting them now (winter sowing). I live in Uruguay, I hope they can take the mild weather. And a report on my experiment on propagating gazanias, they have grown roots in water!! I'll plant them in the garden soon.
Omg this is so helpful. I was having hard time seeing how big a single plant of lupine gets. It looked like you had a bunch all clustered up in that area!
Hi Kyaide! 👋🏼👋🏼 Yes, we ended up spreading wildflower seed mix around the front yard and we had a few lupine plants spring up. Once we transplanted them around the garden, they really started growing and they had multiple shoots coming up from their growing crown. Each plant can start to look like a small cluster of individual plants, but all those stems are growing form one plant, it's just that it has multiple stems growing from the same crown to give this look. After a few years, we were able to divide two more lupine plants from the one cluster and they all started taking off and growing well. Lupines are super hardy and tough plants in our zone. We hope you can grow them in your garden and get as much joy as we get from ours. Thank you for watching and happy gardening! 😊😀
The first time I heard about Lupines was that they are more of plants that serve more on functionalities compared to decorative sides. They are Legumes. They fix nitrogen in the soil. Drought tolerant and long taproots break up the hard clay soil. Easy to germinate and grow out new growth stems pretty fast compared to the Sunflowers. Mine are in their 1st month. I love seeing their little fan like new growth stems.
Oh i just saw Video and the bug issue expressed , and i found answer to bug problem in my mixed Veggy and wild flower gardens around my yard and the solution for my was getting frogs n toads , Yup the y Gobble up them bugs
Your Lupines are really beautiful! I planted from seed, I got leaves this year but no flowers. I can’t wait to get flowers, I’m hoping next spring will bring them, it will be the 3rd year.
Hi @karenpoole8957! 👋🏼👋🏼 Thank you for saying that and we love hearing you are growing lupine, too! Awesome! 👍🏼👍🏼 For flowering, your lupine might need more sun than they are currently getting, as our lupine planted from seed flowered during their second year of growth. We had our planted in a full sun location that got 6+ hours of sun from noon until just before sunset, and they were planted near our house so they also received some residual building heat overnight. There was also a good 2+ inch layer of woodchip around its base. Hope that helps and you see a multitude of lupine flowers this next year. 😊😊
They are in an area that is combined full sun part shade. They get most of their sun in the morning, then afternoon shade. During the afternoon here it’s pretty scorching hot, most of the summer, from about June to end of September, it gets into the high 90’s and and anywhere from 100-104 degrees Fahrenheit. I can move them if needed. I initially planted them in that spot based on a local nursery owner’s instructions. I’ll see what happens next year. If they don’t flower then, I’ll move them. Thanks for the information.
I ordered 5 plant roots..planted early april 2024...they grew fast and are very aggressive ..spreading .....you can deadhead and new stock flowers will regrow...I have 2 varieties of Crocosmia ..they didn't grow very good...
I love these flowers! But I can't seem to get them to grow in my garden. I live in NH, where they grow wild all along the highway in early June and we even have an annual Lupine Festival to tour all the areas that are flooded with Lupines, which is a gorgeous site! I buy them and get one year out of them and they don't return next year. Can't imagine what I'm doing wrong!
I really love Lupines but my soil is too alkaline for them. Also the heat in my area is not to their liking. Baptisia seems to be a good 'replacement'.
Hey Marc! 👋 Lupines are definitely one of our favorites, too. We love that you have a replacement for it, too. We'll need to checkout Baptisia. Thank you for watching and commenting! Stay cool and safe there in TX. 😃😎👍
I have had beautiful Pink Lupine this year and wish I CD send u a picture!!!!?? Dont give me a way to attach pics in these comments...if u let me know I will send u pix

My seeds have germinated doing the winter sowing method. Can't wait till my last frost date so that I can transplant in my new garden.😊
Hi Lily Lily!! 👋🏼👋🏼 That's great! Yay!!! Nicely done and hope they grow healthy and strong. 👍👍😎😀 Thank you for watching and for being here!

I'm on year three of planting lupines, but they have never come back. Hoping this is the year.
Do the lupine grow a bulb, or rhizome, that sprouts each year, if the conditions are right?
yes, they’re perennial
