She was so amazing that she was promptly defeated in a record landslide by someone with zero public office experience at that point. She was in such demand that she won a plurality election 49 to 47 against a dimwitted good ol' boy with Joe Biden quality sound bites to play against him. Ann Richards is a case of all hat and no cattle, her only lasting legacy (and a bad one at that) is Robin Hood, which was a precursor to the disastrous No Child Left Behind of her successor on the national level. Rewarding failed schools with funds if they could inflate tests.

The late former governor Ann Richards could have did more to win a second term as governor of Texas if she was a bit more hard pushing.
She was one of the greatest hacks in Texas politics, she died as she lived, going for the money to be made behind the scenes.
