I moved away in 2002, but always pined away for my Indians, Browns and Cavs. Had my heart broken more times than I can count on the way towards trying to cheer on my hometown teams to championships. Seeing Strug win her gold medal with her hurt ankle in this video reminded me of watching a tiny Kerri Strug, Kim’s Zmescal & Shannon Miller battle with Tatiana Gutsu in gymnastics that olympics. I had never watched gymnastics before but I found myself glued to the TV watching because I couldn’t reconcile the fact that these gymnast’s were the best in the world but they were the same age as me. These absolutely tenacious athletes were the best in the world in their sport yet they had homework like I did when they weren’t on their summer vacation. It was inspiring. It brings back some great memories!
